Just because they need to establish the context of the myth with a scripted bit doesn't mean the script has to have them pretending one of them just looked it up and walked in and started explaining it. That's what's doofy about those moments. Nothing wrong with a scripted explanation. The awkward part is that it's always pretending to be spontaneous, and I don't think that's necessary.
