There is a 240sx with a KA from Puerto Rico running on the 7s it has 1000hp search for it, the thing is that many people go for the SR platform beacause the SR has more aftermarket support than the KA, but I like the KA they produce lots of torque...
@Nizmo27 KA is getting quite an aftermarket now.. I've personally built a KA24DE that put down 400+whp with a turbo setup, on a relatively low boost setting.. the motors can handle some good power, and in a car as light as the 240sx can be quite fast. not to mention, replacement parts are cheap and easy to come by no matter what it is you've broken!

@joe735 back when my friend got his s13 he wanted to swap the usual sr20. But i told him keep the ka. He had 2g's so i decided to do all motor. It was itb'd new headers, tune, semi rebuilt motor. Good fun, he eventually wanted more fun. So he got a motorcycle for 3 months before he left for marines. Damn i miss that car.
Um drummerx there is no way you could build a good 350whp with 3k-5k. I know this cuz I have a s14 (witch is still stock) First things first, a motor rebuild is recommanded , witch will make your motor pretty solid, the price of the parts not including labor are 2k, then you gotta pay around 3k for the turbo setup,plus the clutch,plus the LSD, and a whole load of other crap. witch comes out to NOT BEING CHEAP AT ALL. Can you build a 350whp Ka24det, cheaply? Yes, will it last? not for long.
why would your friend pay so much? a t25 from a sr20 with sr20 pipeing and side mount intercooler , a ka24de t28 manifold and some mis. crap does not cost 2k dude. he got riped off. You can boost a ka for under a grand. i swear people these days dont know shit..
don't get me wrong, thats a bad ass car, if you have the money to get a ka that far under ten without nitrous do the ka, but jdm is the way to go i think.
you still need new fans radiator modify the power steering rebuild the motor mod the wiring harness its actualy quiet expensive to put an rb25 into a 240 i would know being my brother is doing that swap
well getting the wiring done by jgycustoms is only 320 and a aluminum racing radiator with 2 fans is only 230 from cxracing on ebay. do away with the power steering...it'll give you better throttle response and a real feel of the car if you're gunna drift it. i did the easy thing when my ka blew up dropped an s14 sr into mine.
for the money... i would have to say ka24de. more torque iron block. And you wont want to kill yourself if you blow it. makes sense to me. Oh, did i mention 9 second potential??

either way not matter what, who ever has more money wins, the sr is a cheaper way to get 220hp easy than the ka,all kas have about 150-200k miles on them so you have to do a rebuild not only for the life of the engine, so you can boost it, low compression pistons, new rod bearings, crank bearings, new clutch and flywheel, plus the turbo kit, its gunna cost you 5k easy to get a ka to 220hp,when its only 2k for 220hp outta a sr or you can "go big" and put the rb in it for under 3k & have280hp.
sr cheaper way? it depends what way you look at it. if your paying for all the labour to get it done, then yes, swapping an sr in and getting it up another 15 hp from stock would be cheaper than paying someone to rebuild a ka and turbo it. but if your a mechanic or a good do it yourself kinda guy, then buying a few engine parts and a turbo for your KA that you already have would be cheaper.
it was way cheaper for me bc my KA threw a rod. :D rebuilding a ka with 100k+ miles on it with low compression pistons, new crank, bearings, etc. cost about 1200 alone...then you gotta buy a turbo kit, fuel management system, bigger fuel pump, rail, injectors, upgrade ignition system...and aftermarket ecu unless you do a buncha piggy backing, so yeah sr is cheaper. or was for me, it was 2k for my s14 sr and only like 600 for intercooler and exhaust then another 300 for jgy to do my wiring.
It seems to cost the same either way. I'd rather do the ka-t for boost because at least you know you have all new internals and will last getting the jdm motor is 1st sep you dnt know what your getting and just turning up the boost on an old motor will go and then you'll have to rebuild the SR too.
i have my sr as a daily driver at 14 psi. i get on it every once in a while, stock bottom end. the only thing i did was clean the engine when i got it put about 80k miles on it, still running pretty good. its all in what you want...you wanna drag do the ka u wanna drift do the sr.
@NicholasBouchard thats alot of labor... tearing the old block apart, doing the crank, pistons, putting it back together, etc. it was a hell of a time saver for me doing the sr...even though it took me a few months bc i have a full time job. but id rather be running the sr turbo'd, i know if i did a ka, itd be N/A itb system,bore stroke, full exhaust, head done, cams, etc. id love to see a ka full out nasty like that. problem is 10 grand is alot of money. id love tohear one. everyone turbos 4cyl
ebay, you can get an rb20 with everything from 1000-1500, and rbs from 1500-2500, 1500 for auto trans and an average of 2000 for manual, id get an rb priced at 2500 bc u get what you payfor on ebay, get it from jdmenginedep0t on ebay thats where i got my sr

if you buy a RB for under3k chances are you gotta rebuild and i had blacktop on a ae85 levin. and i used to have a RB26DET GT35R, @38 psi on a s14a, doing 711rwhp. had it for cruising and drifting never raced on quater mile, but i did spin my 3rd @ 85mph with 285mm tires :)

I meant quality of the engine, because pretty much all imported engines from Japan are between 50-80k miles, and they work good, and ofcourse a rebuild won't hurt, but they can plug and play quite nicely!

yeah but you know people can say how many ever miles they want on engine shit, my 94 EG old single cam vtec has 285k miles on it ofcourse but its running well but its lost alot of compression, and the shell was really decent now its running on a 99 GSR with 45k miles because it was my buddys gsr and hes had since 1998 and he wrecked it and sold me the engine
my point is it has 285k miles and still runs and turns on perfectly but its lost alot of compression unless you runa compression test you wont figuire it out and most of the time once you recieve the engine you cant et your money back.
But I mean you'd be an idiot not to buy an engine online without a warranty, they usually come with a 30-60 day startup warranty, but ofcourse I would buy from a company rather than ebay, especially since ebay is the same price as anywhere else these days...

Alot of the professional drag machines run a manual gear box but with a sequencial transmission. Take for instance the AMS Evo it runs 8.65 at 171mph it has a sequencial transmission but its still manual.

kudos to the well built dragster. SR's and KA's both have their advantages. It really depends on the owner. The same people who don't set up a KA correctly are also guilty for not being able to utilize an SR to it's fullest potential either.

People who swap out the ka for the SR for dragracing purposes are pretty lame. But the reason for the SR is an all around package. The SR is considerably lighter than an NA KA, let alone an NA-T so the SR is pretty damn good for road course racing or drift purposes.

I think that misinformation being spread is due to Hinson Supercars' claim that an LS1 weighs less than a KA, which is complete BS and has been proven incorrect. A KA24 weighs around 370lbs, an LS1 about 495lbs, and an old-fasioned SBC about 600.

Second, as soon as a vehicle is bought there are too many factors to blame problems on. Most "modded" cars dont use many oem parts. Different owners treat their cars and use them differently. The ONLY way you could prove your point is if YOU bought brand new cars and compared them, and according to the current day consumer Ford is very good.
boost is not better than displacement, obviously u dont know anything about engines. with boost, there is far more wear and tear in the engine and engine components, reving at high rpms with a smaller engine and forced induction will wear the engine out. Most tuners keep changing motors and turbos. Pure displacement is the best.

anout ford, and its reliability, i have two fords.about reliability,goto any cab, limo comany or police dept and ask how reliable these cars r, i seen ford crown vic cabs with 617,000 miles on it and still run strong. My gardner has an old f150 with 300,000+ miles. police and cabs drive these cars 24 hrs a day in 2 shifts and never gives problems. u drive a car 4 2,3 hrs a day n think its reliable. lolz.

out of the 3, rb25det is better stock,
sr20det is better better than ka24de stock,
But if you put it all together with prices,
ka24det is your best bang for your buck.
Considering you can make over 350whp with around a 3000-5000 setup.
With sr, you got to pay for the engine, plus upgradew abunch of parts.
the rb25det is STUPID expensive to upgrade.

well not history... i know the 510's with sr's are running crazy numbers, but what i meant by ka turbo numbers as in, you cant really put out numbers like a ka. even pricing. thats what i think. i like coke and you like pepsi, still coke is better :D . but like in this vid. this ka-t is doing a 9.1 , have you ever read his build tread? anyways just my two cents, and like i said i dont even own a 240 anymore. but still KA KA KA KA . theres allways pros and cons.

either way not matter what, who ever has more money wins, the sr is a cheaper way to get 220hp easy than the ka,all kas have about 150-200k miles on them so you have to do a rebuild not only for the life of the engine, so you can boost it, low compression pistons, new rod bearings, crank bearings, new clutch and flywheel, plus the turbo kit, its gunna cost you 5k easy to get a ka to 220hp,when its only 2k for 220hp outta a sr or you can "go big" and put the rb in it for under 3k & have280hp.

sr cheaper way? it depends what way you look at it. if your paying for all the labour to get it done, then yes, swapping an sr in and getting it up another 15 hp from stock would be cheaper than paying someone to rebuild a ka and turbo it. but if your a mechanic or a good do it yourself kinda guy, then buying a few engine parts and a turbo for your KA that you already have would be cheaper.

it was way cheaper for me bc my KA threw a rod. :D rebuilding a ka with 100k+ miles on it with low compression pistons, new crank, bearings, etc. cost about 1200 alone...then you gotta buy a turbo kit, fuel management system, bigger fuel pump, rail, injectors, upgrade ignition system...and aftermarket ecu unless you do a buncha piggy backing, so yeah sr is cheaper. or was for me, it was 2k for my s14 sr and only like 600 for intercooler and exhaust then another 300 for jgy to do my wiring.

It seems to cost the same either way. I'd rather do the ka-t for boost because at least you know you have all new internals and will last getting the jdm motor is 1st sep you dnt know what your getting and just turning up the boost on an old motor will go and then you'll have to rebuild the SR too.

i have my sr as a daily driver at 14 psi. i get on it every once in a while, stock bottom end. the only thing i did was clean the engine when i got it put about 80k miles on it, still running pretty good. its all in what you want...you wanna drag do the ka u wanna drift do the sr.

@NicholasBouchard thats alot of labor... tearing the old block apart, doing the crank, pistons, putting it back together, etc. it was a hell of a time saver for me doing the sr...even though it took me a few months bc i have a full time job. but id rather be running the sr turbo'd, i know if i did a ka, itd be N/A itb system,bore stroke, full exhaust, head done, cams, etc. id love to see a ka full out nasty like that. problem is 10 grand is alot of money. id love tohear one. everyone turbos 4cyl

ebay, you can get an rb20 with everything from 1000-1500, and rbs from 1500-2500, 1500 for auto trans and an average of 2000 for manual, id get an rb priced at 2500 bc u get what you payfor on ebay, get it from jdmenginedep0t on ebay thats where i got my sr

yeah, i have one of mine from ebay. they all come from the same place just about...and a buddy has one that hes put 60k miles on so far. mine runs just fine and so does his. but if u wanna buy an overpriced one like i bought my first one, be my guest, youre getting the same motor for cheaper. i have an s15 black top and s13 redtop. redtop was same price as s15 blacktop thanks to ebay.

if you buy a RB for under3k chances are you gotta rebuild and i had blacktop on a ae85 levin. and i used to have a RB26DET GT35R, @38 psi on a s14a, doing 711rwhp. had it for cruising and drifting never raced on quater mile, but i did spin my 3rd @ 85mph with 285mm tires :)

i have a buddy who bought a SR20 block on ebay and never got it off 100% feedback, and yes i can back it up. i have pictures of the car on my myspace, and i had a video of it on my youtube but, the car was sold 3 months ago so i took it off.

Okay, well that's ebay's good ol' scam...
I meant quality of the engine, because pretty much all imported engines from Japan are between 50-80k miles, and they work good, and ofcourse a rebuild won't hurt, but they can plug and play quite nicely!
And just ignore w/e I said about your cars, but still, unless you can show that vid on YouTube, don't use those cars in arguments!

yeah but you know people can say how many ever miles they want on engine shit, my 94 EG old single cam vtec has 285k miles on it ofcourse but its running well but its lost alot of compression, and the shell was really decent now its running on a 99 GSR with 45k miles because it was my buddys gsr and hes had since 1998 and he wrecked it and sold me the engine

And I so far only heard 1 story where the inside of the engine looks past 80k miles...

my point is it has 285k miles and still runs and turns on perfectly but its lost alot of compression unless you runa compression test you wont figuire it out and most of the time once you recieve the engine you cant et your money back.

But I mean you'd be an idiot not to buy an engine online without a warranty, they usually come with a 30-60 day startup warranty, but ofcourse I would buy from a company rather than ebay, especially since ebay is the same price as anywhere else these days...
And also, some companies that sell engines on their websites, also use ebay, so just because it's ebay doesn't mean its bad!

Alot of the professional drag machines run a manual gear box but with a sequencial transmission. Take for instance the AMS Evo it runs 8.65 at 171mph it has a sequencial transmission but its still manual.

kudos to the well built dragster. SR's and KA's both have their advantages. It really depends on the owner. The same people who don't set up a KA correctly are also guilty for not being able to utilize an SR to it's fullest potential either.

People who swap out the ka for the SR for dragracing purposes are pretty lame. But the reason for the SR is an all around package. The SR is considerably lighter than an NA KA, let alone an NA-T so the SR is pretty damn good for road course racing or drift purposes.

Ficklefackle, a KA24 does not weigh as much as a small block Chevy. I think that misinformation being spread is due to Hinson Supercars' claim that an LS1 weighs less than a KA, which is complete BS and has been proven incorrect. A KA24 weighs around 370lbs, an LS1 about 495lbs, and an old-fasioned SBC about 600.

Now, who watched that episode where the boosted Toyota Cresside beat the Ford because the POS Ford had so many problems? I don't like either vehicle manufacturer there but I guarantee a car that cost much less to run what it did, ran it, beat the ford, and survived to race another day.
Either way, Fords are the worst vehicles I have ever seen. The two cars I've owned and beat the shit out of are an 85 SS El Camino and my S13 240sx. Both still driving :)

The worst vehicles you have ever seen. First, Fords' reliability is the same as Toyotas as of present day. Consumer reports and Forbes both have evidence. Second, as soon as a vehicle is bought there are too many factors to blame problems on. Most "modded" cars dont use many oem parts. Different owners treat their cars and use them differently. The ONLY way you could prove your point is if YOU bought brand new cars and compared them, and according to the current day consumer Ford is very good.

boost is not better than displacement, obviously u dont know anything about engines. with boost, there is far more wear and tear in the engine and engine components, reving at high rpms with a smaller engine and forced induction will wear the engine out. Most tuners keep changing motors and turbos. Pure displacement is the best.

anout ford, and its reliability, i have two fords.about reliability,goto any cab, limo comany or police dept and ask how reliable these cars r, i seen ford crown vic cabs with 617,000 miles on it and still run strong. My gardner has an old f150 with 300,000+ miles. police and cabs drive these cars 24 hrs a day in 2 shifts and never gives problems. u drive a car 4 2,3 hrs a day n think its reliable. lolz.
