If anyone is still wondering who the real player in this piece is, then it's Michael Thompson. You can listen to the full track on my profile. Thanks!
I have access to over 40 different recordings of K495, so curiosty led me to compare against this mystery hornist.Virtually all of the renowned hornists are in this collection. There were several legends whom I could eliminate just based on my own knowledge of these players. Still, I listened to all of them.To my surprise, none matched! There are some which are very close.(continued)
..There are some which are very close...tone character, tempi, playing style, interpretation, etc. So it's reasonable to suspect that a renowned player made an anonymous recording of K495, etc., for some extra income. One truth is obvious to seasoned players and connoisseurs of the horn...there are many masters of the instrument, and a very few supreme masters. The search continues.
i would hear this a lot on one of my dad's CD's.

I would suggest that maybe you'll find it's Lowell Greer. If you listen closely, you'll hear hand stopping on some notes.

Could be! Sorry for all the confusion. The soloist is certainly a Master, whoever it is, don't you think?

Sorry. I had to choose from public domain recordings and the information is not always complete. I hope you enjoyed the show anyway.
