Love that bolan funk from outer space.... Gloria really works on this song. So over the top and up in the mix - it's like another instrument - this is cosmic party music; high octane. Marc achieved that "liquid groove" sound he talked about during Tanx with this record, though no-one would catch on to this glam soul thing until Bowie did his "Young Americans" record 2 years later.... even got with a black girl later on, too. Bowie was a good conceptual man, Bolan was a born entertainer.

i love the bolan funk from space... Gloria works on this song - so over the top. It's no the Turtles, but they wouldn't have suited this new sound at all. Her background vocals just add an authenticity - the focus isn't so much on Bolan anymore, as this wild sound from the cosmos - it's really like he found that "liquid metal" sound he was looking for (and talked about in interviews) on Tanx and perfected it - all he needed was Glo, blow, and American radio.

@soihoy no sense identifying her race just because you think she's a bitch. She didn't have anything to do with the mix, just like Yoko didn't - blame Bolan and Lennon respectively. They felt/heard something you can't appreciate (besides, I'll take Gloria over Yoko anyday). Basically, his stripped down rock (with his limited rhythm chops) were already fully explored on Electric Warrior and The Slider, to the point of growing monotonous. Hence the pop changing on Tanx and Zinc...

Gloria did not write the songs. This is no Get it On or ballrooms of Mars. The sales declined coz the product was not as good, end of. After "Tanx" there are no great albums. Some good songs but no classics like EVERYTHING in 1972. Don't blame Gloria, Bolan was captain of his own ship.

Some of us love new sounds. Sly got heat because of Spaced Cowboy, and I thought it was amazing. Listening to critics isn't listening to music. Like everything, if you like it, just like it.

Hey I'm with you on the whole Gloria sounds bad on this song discussion, but don't you think its a little naive to blame her for his death? Marc wasn't some prudent and careful schoolgirl- he was obviously still "partying" while the show was being filmed.(re: Ride a White Swan, Marc show) She wasn't his mother. You can probably blame his declining taste on cocaine and not his girlfriend.

@notoriouslizw What you say is true. It was his choice, however before we forget, Marc Bolan was married to June Childs. That did not matter to Gloria. Marc did like her and she certainly did not want to let the fact he was married break up what they had going. I think it was hard to not notice that she was bringing down his music. That is were I fault her.

Gloria not only ruined Marc's career but also just killed him. Her shrilling voice made Marc's later albums unsellable.She lives and Marc is gone.Go figger.

Thank-you for stating the God awful truth. Gloria, was deal killer alright. She had a slight few good moments, which would be hard not to do on a Bolan album. But omg she was a fright to hear and see.
