I just happen on this. I am so saddened to learn of her passing. I knew she had a kidney transplant, and last I heard she was doing so well. I am so sorry. What a class act she was!
when did she pass i used to watch her when she first appeared on another world and then i followed her to the show texas. i am a huge fam of her and i will miss her
Let's put it this way - if Susan Lucci is the Lillie Langtry of American soap operas... a goddess brought to life... then Beverlee McKinsey is the Sarah Bernhardt... fantastical, transcedental and utterly touched by genius.
I suppose that leaves Susan Flannery to be Ellen Terry ;-)
McKinsey, in the final analysis, was the genius artist of this dying medium.
Maybe TPTB did not recognize her at the Daytime Emmys but Vincent Irizarry gave her a shout out while accepting his award. When your fellow actors and peers that have been in the business for years...that is where it really matters.
She will always be the First Lady of American Soap Opera. I can't believe she wasn't honored at the Emmys as befitting one of television's greatest dramatic actors.
Thank you for making this tribute to one of my favorite actresses. IMO, she was the ONLY Alexandra Spaulding! Marj Dusay just never quite cold hold a candle to her.
Daytime has lost one TRUE DIVA!! I enjoyed watching her on GL. She was the one and only Alexandera Spaulding. You were able to feel every word she spoke. RIP MS. McKinsey!!
What a wonderful tribute. Thank you so very much for creating it and posting all the clips that you have. I used to rush home from school to watch Texas with my grandma who was a big fan of Another World and subsequently Texas as well. These clips bring back many fond memories. It's sad that Daytime television these days (or tv in general) cannot hold a candle to these classic moments from the past.
Very nice tribute. Bravo. Beverlee McKinsey was truly one of the greats of daytime TV. I knew her from "Guiding Light" but I have seen some classic clips of her as Iris on "Another World."
Sad to say, but the entire soap genre seems to be fading away now. Perhaps Beverlee retired at just the right time back in 1992? That was right before all of the soaps began to deteriorate.
This was incredible. I didn't know Beverlee McKinsey had passed away until I was perusing the NYTimes and saw her obituary...I absolutely loved her as Alexandra Spaulding...thank you for showing the TEXAS clips too...great compliation.
I am assuming you are referring to her time on Guiding Light? I never watched that show so I can't help you. All my stuff is from Beverlee as Iris on "TEXAS".
I first watched Beverlee McKinsee as Iris Carrington while a freshman at Denver University......she was awesome.....didn't know she'd passed on until yesterday,Oct. 1, she was one of the greats.
Along with DW and VW, she gave us the most intriguing and best-acted trio in daytime history. Mac/Rachel/Iris were positively Shakespearean. It's a darn shame the vast bulk of that work was destroyed.
She managed to make Iris and Alexandra fragile and fierce at the same time. She also possessed an usual beauty. You couldn't take your eyes off of her when she was on the screen.
Beverlee McKinsey was one of the all-time daytime greats. She will be sorely missed. I always enjoyed watching her as the delicious Iris Cory Carrington Delaney Bancroft Wheeler on ANOTHER WORLD and TEXAS. I was fifteen years old when I came home from school one day, turned on the TV, it was on NBC, I saw that it was ANOTHER WORLD, I had never watched it before, it was a scene with Iris and Sven, I was hooked from that moment on.
Thanks so much for making this beautiful tribute and for posting all of the "Texas" videos. She will always my favorite actress. She's missed by all her fans.
Would it be possible for you to post videos of Alex Wheeler's shooting? Thanks again.
it was such a diapointment that the daytime emmys of 08 didn't do a tribute to the soap actors who died this year(2008) like shell kepler(amy gh) or beverly mckinsey and others. i know that beverly's son was a director at general hospital and i am not sure if he still is. that was a huge slap in the face
That was beautiful. For me she will always be Iris. Thank you for posting it. My eyes are crying but I'm so grateful to have had the pleasure of watching her performances. May she rest in peace.
BRAVO Michael Logan...she was simply the best daytime actress ever. Her scenes with Mac and Rachel are timeless, as is her signature voice. What a treasure that we have these videos and photos.
I must have watched this a dozen times. Thank you so much for such a beautiful remembrance, inlcuding the opening scene with her sweet, velvet voice. What a woman! We only part to meet again.
When she walked out of Guiding Light in mid-August 1992, I quit watching the show and all my other CBS soaps too, and never went back in all these years. Michael Logan (TV Guide) was right in 2002 when he wrote it, and still is, Beverlee was "the greatest actress ever to grace soaps." May she rest in peace. :(
how saddend i am today to learn the death of daytime great beverlee mckinsey. i remember rushing home from school and watching with my mom-- she has sinced passed away but i remember how we relished the shananagans of iris cory ! it was a special time for us and now that ms. mckinsey has passed those memories are more dear to me now than ever. ms. mckinsey was what day was all about i will truly miss her. thanks for the tribute

What a crime that she never won an Emmy. She was so much more talented than anyone on Y&R or B&B.

I'm a huge fan of the show and I especially loved Beverlee McKinsey. If you have any of the following episodes, PLEASE, PLEASE post.
1. Alex confronts Eric about giving up Nick without her knowledge. She was so angry Frank had to drag her from the room.
2. Alex tells Billy about Mindy's affair with Roger.
3. Mindy confronts Alex at the Spaulding Mansion before going to the country club for Roger's undoing.
