Much easier than the ones on my old 124 sedan, those are the large valve shims like the old Volvo and you have to slide them out with a valve adjustment tool, measure and exchange. Great videos enjoy the car :)
i had my 20r toyota engine rebuilt, it was bored 40 over and had minor cam work done to it. do you think the valve lash would be different from the toyota factory specs? it's a 1977 toyota celica GT.
I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree
On the 600 it is 0.15mm on both exhaust and intake. to do it properly when n.1 is fully open you check n. 8. WHEN N 2 is open you check N.7. and so on. it always add up to 9.
Hey man, great video, thanks for sharing! I just scored one of these bad boys, & am seeking info & a place to buy parts. Got any good sites for rebuild kits, ect? I've got a 1970 Fiat 850 Spider 4 Cylinders 0.9L, so any help would be great. Take it easy man. :)

API TC Oil is also fine replacement for all those expensive lead and internal engine cleaning addtives. Bosch says that.
Should you fallow the camshaft manufacturer valve clearance specifications, or the engine manufacturer valve specifications...In my case I am using stock rocker assembly and OEM valves.
I know there is official methods of "Rule of 6" etc. But i normal do it by setting them on bout mid compression stroke if an unknown engine. Is that an ok method John?
If you have a cam that you can look at, notice how the lobes are positioned when #1 would be firing, rotate the cam 180 (crank would b 360) and you will see that #4 firing is in position. When the lobes face away from the tappets, they can be adjusted. A simple process that I have used for almost 40 years. Our (USA) specs were .006 intake and .008" exhaust. I run more with my cam grind - .008 (I) and .010" (E). I put this up for those who have had problems adjusting valve w/factory suggestions.
I find a couple of things in this video a bit odd. I use the 850 Sports 903cc in my 126, and I set my valve clearance according to the offical 850 Sports tuning book. In my book, all valve clearances should be set at .006" (0.15mm), and they should be set while the opposing piston is on the rocker. eg: rotate engine till valves for piston 1 are on the rocker (exhaust has closed and intake is starting to open), this is when you adjust valves for no: 4.

Bit more straightforward than valve adjustment on an OHC engine.

do the rocker arms move when you rotate the crank? seems like a stupid question but i need to know
bkbkbrett 1 year ago
@bkbkbrett - Yes, the cam rotates at half crankshaft speed. Thats the reason for turning the crank one turn to do the other half of the valves.

Follow the cam grinders specs, they know what clearance works best with their product.

To adjust valves for no: 3, rotate till piston 2 is on the rocker.
To adjust valves for no: 2, rotate till piston 3 is on the rocker.
To adjust valves for no: 1, rotate till piston 4 is on the rocker.
Q: What has lead you to setting your valves using your method and tolerances?
Cheers, Marty
