  • Everyone looked totally BAKED!.....wish i was there.....ahh the 60's

  • Neil's voice is fantastic and what a great song and jam though Crosby and Nash are always pretty unnecessary. one of the few songs over 6 minutes that is not boring. are you listening Carlos?

  • B-O-R-I-N-G!!!

Sorry folks. Musta sounded great "under the influence." But, without that...no big deal...........

  • I wish that I was there. Thanks to the magic of the internet, I can sort of be there.. Fantastic stuff..

  • these guys are all LEGENDS .........period.

  • Dallas Taylor is a freaking swing master on the drums. When he was in the band, their sound was awesome. Don't forget about fuzzy

  • I'm so glad the guy in suit and tie in the background at 1:10 doesn't stick out like a sore thumb ;)

  • if they had a better drumer they could've been much better

  • A masterpiece!!!

  • 2:07 rules.

  • Faith is very important but the bible is a myth of man to control everyone.

    Let us have faith

    But believe in yourself.

The real question is how we can have faith and peace together.

Should we be spending millions on the future for business or take care of feeding people today?

Making sure everyone has a right to medicine and doctor care?

Why our elected government making sure big business is taken care of and the people are second.

  • toute une époque ,ma jeunesse que j'aime toujours écouter

    michel (france )

  • This is a Epic duel of Stills vs Crosby

  • Sounds trite, but rock doesn't get better than this. I've listened to this dozens of times and every time I'm blown away!

  • The CSNY version of Down by the river is better than the original with Crazy Horse. The drums and bass have a much better groove.

  • Dallas taylor and Gregg Reeves made up one of the best rythym sections in rock music. Too bad it didn't last.

  • Comment removed

  • what guitar is crosby using ?

  • thats a Gretsch White Falcon.

    very nice guitar!

  • Crosby's playing a gibson isnt he?

    Stills is playing the gretsch

  • One of the greatest recordings of rock history ever! Thanks for posting!

  • love the straight guy with the tambourine at 4:56. Everyone was welcome.

  • YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love how the camera pans on the J rolled at 4:20 - coincidence? I really think so :O_

  • oh hell.. ya!

  • First time I ever heard this song is when my friend posted this on Facebook last week....What a brilliant song....Medgasguy hit the nail on the head with his comment the previous day. Cracking tune!

  • The times, the political atmosphere, the era in which we lived, and this song, are truly amazing! Thanks for posting.

  • is that david letterman at 118 in back ground? lol

  • HAHAHAHA.... hell yea

  • OHHHH MY GOD at 2:20 When Stills and Young start the duel it is incredible, one is provocing with his guitar sound and the other one is answering

  • words are not enough

  • real hippies

  • Dems was the Daze!

  • just you. you need to develop an ear for music

  • is it just me or can you not hear crosby's guitar?

  • Listen with headphones; it's mixed down in the beginning and video is not perfectly in sync but you can hear a funky rhythm.

  • wow this is great =O

the crowd REALLY looks high =P

  • drummed for crosby stills and nash' 1st album then for deja vu with csny. produced some of stepen stills solo stuff and did some drumming for a few of his albums. mid 70s did some drumming for butterfield

  • I am impressed!!

  • thank you grahsco 88, do you have any informations about him

  • dallas taylor

  • did anyone know the drumer, it semms that he is the same as shown on a video witch was recordet during a tv show.

  • Neil looks like a real trip!

  • If it was Sept 6th 1969, as stated, this would have been 3 weeks after they did Woodstock. That must have been a pretty trippy few weeks for those cats!

  • CORRECTION: Simply put, one of the greatest songs by one of the greatest bands of the greatest era in rock history of all time.

  • Simply put, one of the greatest songs by one of the greatest bands of all time.

  • like 90% of those people are tripping balls

  • hahahah

  • Great song and fantastic performance. So delighted to see and hear CSN&Y in their best. btw, I'm a little bit disgusted with the aunt Baez appearance in this vid, but will survive:)

  • Awesome! I can't get enough of this song. This is how rock should sound. When did music go from being great to turning to shit?

  • Thats a great backup harmony Stills sings at 3:43.

  • 0:00-6:24!!!!

  • this has to be the strangest set up ive ever seen. an ocean cliff, someones backyard pool, an area rug and like 3000 people. how did this all come together? hahaha great vid none the less

  • be on my side ill be on your side babe <3

1969 - taken me for a ride over the rainbow , oh what i would give to of lived in that time , i was born 40 years to late

  • 4:33 to 4:41 he looks like a lil kid

    haha :)

  • 0:32...best scene...

  • no... the best is at 3:06... cooool!!!!

  • So historical. Thank goodness someone captured this. Nothing like watching the masters in their prime. Just doesn't get any better!

  • who's gaf is this at....what a fucking jam session..........unreal hi!!

  • Celebration At Big Sur Sept 6, 1969.

  • That is a WICKED cut at the end. I yelled "NOOOOOOOO!" out loud.

  • thats a sick poncho the david crosby is wearing I want to get one

  • Was that Joan Baez there?

  • yes, her and I think her sister too.

  • Joan had two sisters. It was probably Mimi Farina, her younger sis. Mimi was a singer too. I remember when Mimi died of cancer in 2001. She was beautiful and better looking than Joan, in my opinion.

  • Great song, down by the swimming pool.

  • it ends abrubtly was there more to this jam?

  • magic song

  • Thanks wonderfreakinwoman! Esalen looks like a town I'd like to live in. Already mentioned this to a friend who loves the country part of Cali.

  • Damn, I was in diapers when this took place. Seriously. Neil could be my Dad!

  • there's a town in California called Esalen?

  • It was at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, CA...It's still there...I think they even have a website...

  • oh crap i would do anything to jam with these guys

  • where is this? looks like somewhere in California. Big Sur?

  • Esalen!

  • wow lucky folks !looks like mount tamapies, marin

  • The hippies dancing makes me uncomfortable.

  • hip hop makes me nervous!

  • Wow...Check out what's happening at 4:20...How appropriate!

  • yah i wonder how they pulled that off on this clip. great timing. a real pinner joint though. the weed was stronger back in the day cause now they roll spliffs and blunts. not like the good old days..........

  • stronger in the day...?what is now is now,far beyond

Xcept 4 the Tie weeeeed back then!!

  • Considering where the state of the world is today...desperate as usual ;-) TR. If not for these guys.

  • Not sure I agree with that....but what i mean is that he added next to nothing...including not even knowing how to play some of the songs....but was always there to grab the glory as others worked their asses off.

  • grrr hate to step on the beauty of this but is it me or is crosby just a sham???

  • the whole era was a sham. He just got caught up in it.

  • peace love and rainbows !!!!!

  • Thank you brother for posting this video. Simply amazing!

  • Great video! The artists of this century can't hold a candle to the artists of this era. Nothing personal, just a different time and place. Even the young kids who watch this video today have got to be impressed.

  • I'm pretty impressed by the patience of the audience to put up with seemlessly endless self-indulgent noodling. I'm sure drugs help, but there isn't enough pot in the world to make this dog's breakfast sound like art to me. Music has never been better than it is today. Be Here Now!

  • @mattlove1

So what you're saying is that Oslim the Beatbox is better than this? LOL

  • @Tyteflows No, I'm not saying that, anymore than you are saying Playground In My Mind by Clint Holmes is better than anything released now just because it was released then (though if you don't know it, it's on YouTube. Check it out, you might think so). I am saying that Hawksley Workman, Wendy McNeill, Lulina, The Zax, and hundreds, or maybe thousands, of others have more entertainment value than this. It's impossible to keep up with all the good music now, back then they rationed it out to us

  • hahaha at 4:20

  • whay a legendary time!!!

  • there is my favorite poncho if anyone knows where this or if Stephen even stills has it please comment here and tell me

  • Great audi and video quality, just love voices and the tones of the guitars !!! Great musicianship !

  • this wasnt the same crowd from altamont

  • Neil , you are my hero!

  • Oh Neil. Those sideburns make me crazy.

  • Hell with Neils how about Stephens

  • Why, do we have to chose?

  • didnt steven stills run into the crowd and beat the shit out of someone at this show?

  • Not quite...but he does get into it with a spectator.

  • hahahahah

  • I strongly agree with stagesofcoma, ^_^

  • If only I'd been there and had a video camera... I would've had it trained on Neil- that is, if I didn't end up dropping it when he started feeling the music. O_o He gets sexy enough to make one rather... shakey, lol.

  • Best of neil young!!! Super Chingon

  • Awesome, where was this filmed at?

  • this was taken from "Celebration at Big Sur", probably late fall, 1969
