  • Obama didn't start the war and he can't just pull out. In 2008 after 7 years of fighting he couldn't just say ''Let''s get out of here!'' instantly.

But I don't think he's gonna meet his promise of closing guantanimo

  • but wasent obama muslim

  • obama is killing innocent Muslims and American troops in these failed 2 wars

  • you tube will not let you tell the truth

  • lkagjpsjpoj

  • By respiration? Closer to 195 lbs per average person, derived from 1990 NYT article. But respiration is carbon neutral.

Oooooh, I see. To protect us from global warming we should all stop breathing, cows should stop farting and stuff should stop being flamable. Sounds easy!

  • And I guess us evil humans (most likely refering to Americans) are resonsible for all of the Ice Ages aswell!

  • He's been working on this for 30 years...?

And 20-30 years ago Gore made predictions about Global warming that should have happened already.... but didn't.

Why should I believe that shyster?

  • Because he is.... I haven't a fucking clue.

  • So we shouldn't be a Banana Republic? What about a Structure...maybe Express? J. Crew?

  • McCain;s remarks seem to imply that someone should get away with something, because they found crooked lawyer who wrote a supporting memo.

Doesn't that mean that *anyone* can get away with *anything*?

  • PragaSong: "Why is it called 'Climate Change' and not 'Global Warming' anymore?"

Your question makes a fallacious assumption.

Google this: "Within scientific journals, this is still how the two terms are used. Global warming refers to surface temperature increases, while climate change includes global warming and everything else that increasing greenhouse gas amounts will affect."

  • Oh, thanks for educating me. I thought that global warming meant that the globe is warming. Since the globe is actually starting to cool, I thought people are now saying "climate change" to save face. My mistake. It's kind of like we went into Iraq mainly b/c of WMDs, and later saying it was mainly to liberate the Iraqis to save face. I think I understand.

  • PragaSong: "Oh, thanks for educating me."

    Happy to serve!

"I thought that global warming meant that the globe is warming."

    Indeed, it does.

"Since the globe is actually starting to cool..."

References, please - I think you're working from 1975-ish data.

    "...WMDs..."

Like the arguments against mitigating global warming, a misinformation campaign waged by the previous Administration.

  • So you're saying that Climate Change is a misinformation campaign? Fraud?

    That's a serious allegation.

  • PragaSong: "So you're saying that Climate Change is a misinformation campaign?"

    How cutely disingenuous!

Or perhaps you're just hung up on the definitions of "mitigate"...

  • Its pretty obvious it is. The climate is suppose to change. The planet is millions of years old

You have al gore the owner of a carbon credit company/major shareholder of an oil company saying we are all going to die unless we get taxed by the mile.

Everyone knows the ocean gives off more co2 in 1 year then humans in 100.

But hey, you want to be taxed for driving go ahead and by the propagnda.

  • deshonlive: "The planet is millions of years old...the ocean gives off more co2 in 1 year then humans in 100..."

Specious arguments (BTW, the planet is roughly 4.5 BILLION years old) used to attempt to distract one from the real problem - the release of carbon that was sequestered several hundred million years ago, and the resulting perturbation to the current carbon cycles.

"...you want to be taxed for driving..."

Pretty funny! Yours is an enlightened country with a heavy gasoline tax.

  • If Al Gore wasn't full of shit he would debate scientists that differ and find his position isn't supported by facts, but he has refused to, even if the money raised would go to his "cause". That is how you can tell someone who doesn't know what they claim to know, when they can't engage in honest debate about what they are selling. Al Gore is simply a salesman, selling a plan, not to actually reduce pollution and chemicals we should worry about, no his plan is to lessen CO2, a necessary gas

  • deshonlive: "he would debate scientists that differ "

The only meaningful debate is among the scientists - preferably those with climactic expertise. Hyper-sensational shouting matches, as favored by right wing pundits, do everyone a disservice.

    "CO2, a necessary gas"

More specious arguments. Similarly, potassium is a necessary element to human metabolism - but too much potassium is called lethal injection.

  • The basis of Man-made CC argument is that temperature rises when CO2 rises but in fact in every climate fluctuation, temperature rises and THEN CO2 follows. Not to mention the fact that during the last major climate change from 1645-1715 the solar minimum was at its lowest every recorded. We are entering a solar maximum reportedly to be the biggest in recent history, (peaking in 2012) and not enough has been studied to know whether this has a major effect on climate. (continued)

  • I just think before we allow a private company or the government for that matter benefit from dictating how everyone lives, we need to seriously do more research. I remember back in 1990's when everyone said we would all cook by this time and yet here we are not burnt. I'm all for efficient and/or renewable energy, but I think the blame lies with the interference by government, through subsidies, to dictate what the market should look like. (continued)

  • We need to allow more competitive prices in the energy market by getting rid of the subsidies on oil, ethanol, and others so that things like solar, and geothermal (my fav) can become cheaper through the competition with oil, natural gas and fossil fuels in general. I just don't think taxing people and/or companies is gonna solve anything and may even hurt the economy more as countries like China and India allow more competitive growth through their expansion of their energy infrastructure.

  • I'm confused.

Are you arguing that the science isn't there yet? Or are you arguing that the science is there but we should allow free markets rather than the government to drive the solution?

And if you're arguing for a free-market solution - what's your problem with Al Gore??

  • I'm arguing both. I agree with the fact that the climate is changing but I don't agree with the premature conclusions of Al Gore and the anti-humanist solution. I also agree with efficient/renewable energy but I don't agree with government intervention in the market which is the reason why people still buy gasoline instead of ethanol. Al Gore's approach of taxing to, theoretically, create incentive for the market to create efficiency I believe will just cause more problems. (continued)

  • alby711: "anti-humanist solution"

    Explain please.

"I don't agree with government intervention in the market which is the reason why people still buy gasoline instead of ethanol."

Explain please. (Do you support corn ethanol?)

  • Should have said "anti-humanist conclusion" (not solution) which is this notion that WE are to blame for a natural cycle.

I don't support CORN ethanol but I do support biomass and other plants (notable hemp) as fuel components.

My beef is with the government trying to help but instead restricting ideas and innovation by choosing winners and losers in the markets.

btw did you watch that clip? If not here it is again: watch?v=L1_eaZ74Z_A

  • alby711: "'anti-humanist conclusion' ... that WE are to blame for a natural cycle"

    How is this conclusion 'anti-humanist'?

Watched the clip. Citation is notably lacking, so it's hard to judge its worth, but the second part of that mashup appears to refer to a 20-year-old controversy that has been refuted - TinyURL dymno8.

  • If the government intervenes in the market as it did with oil, one source of energy will be favored over others and secondly it will not allow for the people to make a choice (mainly through cost efficiency) as to what energy source they want to use. I think the only obligation of the government is to help with energy infrastructure.

  • alby711: "...allow for the people to make a choice (mainly through cost efficiency) as to what energy source they want to use."

The cheapest energy comes from fossil fuels. When the grid temporarily needs more electricity, the cheapest source is a plant fired by dirty coal.

In a free market driven by "cost efficiency", without other forces (taxes and/or incentives), what causes people to choose clean energy?

  • The reason why oil is the cheapest is because of the subsidies they receive from the government (gov intervention). Coal is cheap because its the MOST abundant resource but we can try to research technology that limits the amount of SULFUR (not CO2) which is the cause for pollution, smog, and acid rain. Renewable energy would be allowed when oil's TRUE market value is realized and when more research is done to make energy costs competitive.

  • alby711: "Coal is cheap ... but we can try to research technology that limits the amount of [emissions] "

In an unfettered free market, without other forces (taxes and/or incentives), what drives this research?

  • The same thing that drove us in the industrial revolution, the will to change for cheaper energy/cost. But what is KEY is to let the market drive the cost of oil by an unsubsidized energy market. Yes, it would be somewhat temporarily devastating but that is what would drive us into creative ideas that lead to more research and development.

It's obvious you believe that we are the cause to a natural cycle that has been going on for millenia, so I won't try to convince you otherwise.

  • alby711: "unsubsidized energy market"

Not that I'm against dropping the petroleum subsidies, but that looks like it will only raise those prices 10-20%, and that still doesn't get any other energy sources into the competitive range. People and industries will not move without a price advantage, which bring us back to government involvement.

That's not always a bad thing - creating the infrastructure and encouraging us to use it is what government can do best.

  • Well I'm all for creating infrastructure and funding research but subsidizing industries is something else not to mention cap and trade. I just don't see a need to for cap and trade. I think it would be better to let the costs rise so that energy companies try to find more cost efficient ways to stay afloat. Government does it's best when it allows market forces to drive cost. The only thing government should do is create an infrastructure for new energy and fund research through loans.

  • Bottom line is this: cost efficiency goes together with energy efficiency.

If it takes 5 gal of gas to create 1 gal of ethanol that's not energy efficient thus it's not cost efficient and no one will buy it. Improve or find another way to create more energy efficiency.

If a resource is abundant (coal/solar) then it's cost is cheap. However it's the energy extraction which makes it cheap. If technology to harness that energy is lacking, it won't be energy (or cost) efficient.

  • alby711: "in fact in every climate fluctuation, temperature rises and THEN CO2 follows"

The fallacy in this argument: Historically CO2 rise follows temp rise, ergo CO2 rise cannot cause temp rise.

This completely ignores the hard science on CO2 and infrared absorption, and the fact that for the first time in the history of the earth, humans are pumping into the atmosphere carbon that has been locked up for roughly 300 million years.

  • The basis of my position is backed up by historical data from the ice core samples. I've seen "An inconvenient lie" oh I mean "truth" and all Al Gore does is scare people into hating ourselves for what is a natural cycle. Please watch this very short clip which explains, in a nutshell, how CO2 rises AFTER temperature.

    watch?v=L1_eaZ74Z_A

  • Let me know how you feel about these things:

Milage trackers in your car with $5 a mile during rush hours

    Taxes on all meats

Energy meters controlled by the government in your home

EU has closed air conditioning loop holes in cars

Welcome to the great new world where you pay your carbon credit to a company all gore co chairs

Isn't he also a majority shareholder of an oil company? LOL

  • deshonlive: "Let me know how you feel about these things:"

I feel very relieved that you've apparently acknowledged that we need to do something about carbon emissions and are now willing to discuss the pros and cons of some specific means of mitigation. Good for you!!

  • I was being sarcastic.

You didn't address any of my points. We've had record cold temperature.

The ocean releases more co2. That why the government is now talking about talking water. I guess you'll be for that

  • deshonlive: "I was being sarcastic."

    Imagine my surprise and disappointment.

Cite references to your "points" and I will be happy to research...

  • What the flub does the Dallas Cowboys have to do with Climate change. Climate change is like the shark in Jaws. It will be ignored till it swims up and bites us in the...

  • Why does "great democratic media" of US ignoring protests and riots in Georgia against Sukashvili by 150,000 georgians (of total 4 mln.) since 9 APRIL? 17 DAYS people protesting against US puppet, and of course US media totally ignore it. Interesting why didn't you ignore when Russian troops protected civillians in S.Ossetia, and wrote it as "Russia invades Georgia"?

Lie - is a famous american tradition. If you don't lie - you are not american...

  • Al Gore. suck a dick

  • lol

  • Future maverick in training.... lame

anyway Joe is right, we have a horrible history, but shall we excuse our recent behavior because of the behavior of our forebears? No

  • Lady Gaga is a war criminal

  • America: Leading protector of war criminals.

  • Oh Ghod! Another "Maverick" ?!?. The GOP desperatly clinging onto Ronald Regan's swager from 1980 (which he took from the 1950's).

  • did you watch the whole hearing?...All the congressman who questioned him turned out looking like idiots. Watch the whole hearing or else your just an ignorant idiot.

  • Why not a banana republic? I like bananas :(

  • Every time John McCain smiles or laughs, a puppy bursts into flame.

  • Comment removed

  • Mc Mavric more like Mc Scummy campaign tactics EVER! why is he on TV??? will he secede and become the new president of the country of Texas perhaps?

  • On an anecdotal note: to solve the CO2 increases we should just plant more trees. I would prefer marijuana because its cheap and could provide lots of biomass for fuel. In fact, Henry Ford originally designed his Model T to run on hemp ethanol. However unfortunately Congress banned marijuana (some evidence suggests it was based on racism, and others based on business/lobbying).

  • Deforestation around the world, especially in 3rd world countries like Indonesia and Brazil, is happening at an alarming rate.

I seriously doubt we can plant enough plants 1:1 to the plants we lose to deforestation.

  • Agreeing with you, I would also say that China and India and other "developing nations" are increasing CO2 amounts and I seriously doubt any tax on our breath will effect the atmosphere. Cap and trade is just simply a horrible idea. I'm all for "saving the earth" but we can do other things to help lower pollution and more importantly waste. Businesses are/will change to more efficient (ie enviornmental) technology as costs increase even without the increase of taxes.

  • alby711: "...to solve the CO2 increases we should just plant more trees. I would prefer marijuana..."

Smoking it will release the carbon. Net sequestration is zero.

But at least we'd roast happy...

  • We individually produce 300 lbs of Carbon every year. That still will be taken away from the carbon credits we receive from the government.

This is just a horrible idea simply because there has been no open debate on whether or not WE are causing climate change or natural forces are. Throughout history we've had climate fluctuations.

I wouldn't smoke marijuana if it were legal. I'd eat it. mmmm.... brownies

  • alby711: "We individually produce 300 lbs of Carbon every year."

By respiration? Closer to 195 lbs per average person, derived from 1990 NYT article. But respiration is carbon neutral.

"there has been no open debate on whether or not WE are causing climate change"

The science is more convincing every day. The only rational debate addresses what to do about it.

    "brownies"

Good ideas - still carbon-neutral (if you use a solar oven).

  • Why does no one take into consideration the fact that, according to recent NASA study, Mars has increased .5C since 1970's? Or that solar radiation given during the solar cycle has increased .05% per decade since late 1970's? From 1645 to 1715 the Earth underwent a "mini-iceage" while sunspot activity decreased dramatically during that time.

The fact is we have no idea what causes global warming. But taxing our breath and plant food (CO2) is no way to fix this.

  • alby711: "...taxing our breath..."

Breathing is part of a carbon-neutral cycle.

  • did...did he just call the victims of the atomic bombings at HIROSHIMA and NAGASAKI....GERMAN? I thought the point of a news anchor was to be well informed

  • no, Dresden was in germany

  • He was talking about the city of Desden, a German City, he didn't say it was nuked, he said, "Firebombing". 0:41

  • He may benefit from climate change legislation, but that's not his main reason for supporting it. Is that what he was trying to say?

  • Barton... now who claims responsibility over that moron?... ignorance is not something to be smug about...

  • this is RIDICULOUS. i guess every murderer can use that excuse. "oh i know i killed my wife yesterday, BUT that was the past, lets look forward and not backward."

  • 0:40

"...killed hundreds of thousands of German civilians..."

The firebombing of Tokyo claimed far more lives (100,000) than the bombing of Dresden (40,000). That statement was taken out of context, but was factually incorrect nonetheless.

  • IT'S FRIDAY!

    Yes

  • The Cowboys just suck... I never thought to blame it on the weather.

  • Every time i hear Joe Scarborough, I lose 5 IQ points.

  • Yeah lets not have justice now. Lets wait 50 to 80 years so lawmakers can apologize to ghosts and say we were wrong in asshat attempt to whitewash history. Fuck the nonsense. No President or elected official is above the law. If they wrote policies to torture people they committed war crimes. We hung Nazis and Tojo Japanese. If we don't prosecute criminals in our own government we have no moral authority to bitch about tyrants anymore. To quote Shep Smith: "We don't fuckin' torture!"

  • BANANA REPUBLICAN omg thats tooo tooo funny

  • Megan is a future Banana Republican.

  • did you really have to make gore sound like a robot? oh wait...

  • Sigh....

Man only the repubilcans think Global warming isnt a real issue.

How fucking dumb can yu be?

  • except the impending doom of the earth right?

  • I seem to find that those who deny the obvious facts related to global warming were very poor students in high school science, and they most likely never went to college.

  • STOP THE NONSENSE!!!

  • dude you cant be serious.

The science of it is rock solid, this IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE. Go research and come back. This isnt some "government conspiracy"

Please note this is a global problem, japan, england most european countries etc are taking this seriously, the US is the only place thats still in denial.

And the reason for this is because in the US we have idiot Republicans, who are on the payroll of big oil companies.

  • its funny how republicans get angry when the president acknowledges the saudi king. yet if he didnt show respect and pissed them off they could turn off the oil flow. back to expensive oil prices

  • You know I think I would believe Gore a little more if he would take up the gauntlet and settle this global warming debate in some sort of summit.

As it is I don't trust anything he say, he just comes off as little...creepy, I guess is the term. Just another hippy but with the right background to be listened to. If he weren't in front of a congressional panel he would be barefoot and wearing a hemp smock.

  • Do you have a GOOD reason to mistrust him?

  • Yes, as written above, there is a counterproposal by a group of scientist to his inconvenient that request a discussion that he has snubbed. My brain asks, "why".

Some of his facts mentioned in his Nobel prize winning masterpiece doesn't seem to match the data. For instance his claim that if we invested weeks worth of what we spent in Iraq we could build clean coal plants, and decommission all the outdated models, Foreign Affair says it would only build one.

  • Joe just WHARGARBLED all over us, wonderful. When is this whining bitching going to end?

  • Wow!

The things Republicans say get crazier every day.

  • A Conservative talking about logic?

    Oh the irony.

  • another GOP talking point! get a brain of your own, will ya?

  • 10 yrs? i just want to see my boy Romo win won

  • Are we now at "if we dont know it, it didnt happen?" What a shame!!!

  • Golbal warming the biggest scam ever.

  • Maybe you should watch the hearing and explain to me what "lies" were being dished out.

  • Point me to one peer-reviewed study showing the "hype" of global warming, until you do, I'll be waiting for hell to freeze over.

  • I love Al Gore.

  • AGAIN: We sentenced japanese soldiers in WWII and even killed some of them for waterboarding our own soldiers. So why on earth are we afraid of applying the law in the case of our own soldiers, who waterboarded? WHY???

  • Alex Jones is an asshat who advocates legalizing drugs and childporn. Al Gore was a Vice President, won the 2000 presidential election, and received the nobel peace prize. Sure Gore is a bit of a fear monger, but he should in no way be compared with Alex Jones.

  • notscooter952, What's wrong with legalizing drugs?

  • Would you like me to cite the effects of Meth? Or coke?

  • so the only thing stopping people from doing drugs is because it is illegal? so your saying that drugs should not be legalized because you cant help yourself from doing it because it is?

  • Because some people thinks it'll make baby Jesus cry.

  • "I think I love and respect my daughter" - John McCain

    Aww, that's sweet... I think.

  • hahaha...maybe

  • Should I be surprised everyone questioning Al Gore is republican?

  • You are an uninformed idiot.

  • Who are you talking to? If that is person is me sorry I don't believe every since scientific theory out there. They are THEORIES. The point of science is not to "believe" like it's a bloody religion for christ's sake it is to question things. People ask me if I "believe" in global warming. Believe? I must have faith that it is happening? It is like the modern fire and brimstone technique. In ten years-20 years it will all be forgotten about. Sorry.

  • You don't even know what a scientific theory is, how can you be discussing such things?

  • You're right. I'm sorry, I don't want to discuss this on youtube anyway. Take care.

  • I hope you realize that in order for something to be classified as a scientific theory it takes enormous amounts of testing to the point where if something is finally considered a theory it's nearly factual. Theories in science are about as close to facts as anything gets.

  • newkd

    Not quite.

    Facts are the lowest level.

One takes facts and form a hypothesis from them.

A proven hypothesis becomes a theory.

A theory is a collection of facts where the explanation has been tested and proven

    THAT's how close it is.

    Good try, though.

  • Yeah... nothing abnormal with massive chunks of Antarctica melting and falling into the ocean. Nope.

Good thing we didn't do anything about the big hole in ozone layer several years ago due to chemicals used in air conditioners and fridges. Oh wait, we did.

Is it so wrong to at least TRY to clean the air you breathe? Is it so hard to TRY to reduce the amount of energy you consume (hey, you save money!) Everything we do has a butterfly effect that eventually adds up.

  • There's nothing wrong with cleaning O2 (the air we breathe) but there is something not right about taxing CO2 (our breath). Besides CO2 is not the only pollutant, SO2 is also a big one. In fact I'd would DEFINITELY agree to taxing sulfur and sulfur dioxide emissions over CO2.

  • Actually it's not massive chunks. It's the peninsula. No one even knows if that even helped the ozone layer and that in fact it healed itself up. I actually do not think it's wrong to clean the air I breathe or conserving energy. I'd gladly drive an electric car and I do in fact use reusable bags for my groceries. I just do not think it's fair to call skeptics "deniers" as if they are denying Christ. It's science and science is constantly changing. Always has been. I question everything.

  • > No one even knows if that even helped the ozone layer and that in fact it healed itself up

Are you suggesting that the ozone hole healed itself up, or did I read that totally wrong?

  • Are you kidding me? You haven't heard that before? Wow. Read for a change. Are you suggesting it couldn't?

  • Oh and plus every science magazine I come across and articles contradict themselves. Look up "arctic ice" and you will find that one will say "it's growing" and the other will saying "it's melting away". Do it, trust me it's all one big contradiction. No one has any idea what's going on.

  • Megan McCain is SO much more appealing than her father. If she stays conservative I'd still probably never vote for her but at least she's not full of shit (not completely over flowing anyway) like her dad so that is a pretty huge plus, agree with her positions or not.

  • vote for her? for what?

she's known for being someone's daughter, that's all.

  • The major difference is that she's not a politician. She's not trying to kiss ass to her "base."

If anything she's an old-school Barry Goldwater conservative, which is pretty much dead these days with the hard-right like Rep. Michelle Bachmann and Gov. Sarah Palin.

  • Same old, same old from the Republicans. There's a reason they're not in power any longer, and they remind everyone of it every time they speak.

  • there is no left right

  • I don't understand what your'e saying, CliveSinclairZX.

  • Republicans and democrats are the same thing. until you have woken up to this fact, we are never going to get anywhere... We are going to be screwed while we fight amongst ourselves.

  • The majority acts like the majority, the minority acts like the minority. The D's and R's are a superficial change. They just change the names of the same plans and act like they are different. The illusory dichotomy is what allows the system to maintain the illusion of choice. Or do you really believe there is a difference between stimulating the economy by increasing gov't spending and cutting taxes (democrats), or cutting taxes and increasing gov't spending (republicans).

  • Joe Barton is a vile piece of shit. Anti-science redneck fucker!
