  • I leave in Alabama, and in the 70's my pawpaw was stalked by one twice

in Pelham Range in Calhoun County. He said it sounded just like this.

  • That my friend was a mountain lion/panther. They scream like that to confuse potential prey or to scare away threats. I've encountered those a few times when I've been out and about hunting.

Scares the crap out of you the first time you hear it.

  • It was a Mountain Lion. They're also called Panthers, Cougars and Pumas.

  • i hear the same sounds at night in hillville

  • oh not a fox or a bobcat i know there sounds by heart

  • im from alabama 2 weeks i heard something like a woman bing brutality murdered old folk say its a panther but me a little more id sh!#^ my self it happened around 3:00 am

  • Bobcat and cougar are not the same thing you idiots.

  • Last night my buddy and I went to his wife's parents house to kill a reported bobcat that has allegedly been preying upon livestock in the area. Their neighbor had to take one of their horses to the vet after it suffered a severe gash to it's hind quarters. The markings on the horse lead us to believe it was a bobcat. There have also been several sightings in that area of what the land owners claim to be a "very large bobcat", with most sightings having occurred during daylight hours. I do not

  • lol dude its a fox mating. look it up on youtube. sounds like a woman being raped its scary as fuck. my friends and i used to go follow them in the woods and even though you know its a fox you're still shitting your pants haha.. good thing my cousin told me about this before I actually heard it for real, i don't even want to imagine.

  • FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE

  • @ImagineMedia haha no way dude. i live in the woods of east texas and truse me they sound like old witches dieing in the woods.

  • city boy

  • Ya Cougar. Sounds like a female looking for a boytoy. ;) Im a northern country girl and I like to sleep with the windows wide open in summer, and I hear this every year or so outside my room. I'd have PEED myself tho if the firsttime I heard it was outside my tent. Thats rough. Good job keeping your composure, I would have sounded like a big weenie probably. :) If you have the financial means and interest, you should do a little research and put up a trailcam.

  • @aj061684 In lesser-funded counties (like mine) the DNR has a big interest in tracking information on rare mammals, and often will LOAN you a motion-activated trail cam, provided you can prove A) your sincere biological interest and B) a solely preservance intent. AND what you get will often get posted online with credit. :)

  • COUGER, i hear them all the time at night and the scariest shit ever is when your adventureing around ready to hunt some shit you hear a *crunch* you turn and you barely get a glance at it and thats when you know that bitch was stalking you,a nd you could of died. but alot of people confuse them with a women and go to see whats wrong and thats how people usually get killed by them

  • Sounded like a screaming women owl

  • It's a cougar mating call. The sound is similar to when you accidentally step on a house cats tail but much louder and deeper coming from a cougar. Good job capturing such a rare sound on audio.

  • My first comment was a joke

  • I have a ranch up in North western Oklahoma and I go hunting at night for coyotes with my AR 15 , I have seen several panthers and that is what that sounded like.

  • @MrLANDRONICS Why are you hunting for coyotes with an AR 15? Overkill much?

  • An ape scratching his balls

  • couger/mountain lion herd the exact same thing

  • Thats eerie I heard something similar while camping in northeast Alabama in a wilderness preserve

  • it's either a dying monkey,or Justin bieber!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's Shirley Temple screaming when she had a vision of Justin Bieber hitting puberty.

  • Big fuckin panther. Likaboss

  • Cougar I would've pissed my pants lol

  • Holy shit mother fuck!!! That's creepy!!! If I heard that at night I'd piss meself and cry

  • Who the hell sleeps with an audio recorder all night long...Fail

  • This actually made my heart jump and it hurt. :$

  • thats a mountain lions mating call

  • @jmp678 I did actually! And I posted the video of me tracking her. See the note at the beginning of the video.

  • Holy hell

  • Black Panther

  • black panther

  • I heard one when i was about 5 or 6. I started to run into the woods to help the lady who was screaming, my dad knowing what it was pulled me back and explained it was a Panther, Cougar ,,, what ever you want to call it. well a few knights later the thing showed up in our utility room my dad thinks it's the dog next door in our trash when he go's in to get rid of it , I see him open the door and jump at least 3 foot in the air exclaiming "oh Sh@#" he clears the couch in one hop and gets his gun.

  • bigfoot

  • Defiantly a cougar. I hear the exact same noise right out my house when I was taking my dog outside. Let's just say I burst into tears and ran back inside screaming....

  • cougar or bigfoot.

  • My grandparents told me stories of panthers that were becoming a problem near hot springs arkansas. So much so that they named the area panther valley. It's where magic springs is today. It's said that their scream sounds just like a screaming woman

  • @climbamtn111 -

i heard a noise like that a few days ago, panther i thought as one has been spotted nearby a few times, im skeptical because i live in the highlands of scotland. trying to work out if it was a fox or panther. but it was just like this... four times.

  • The guy has clearly said the sound was not recorded live but found after the fact. Def a cougar. Probs calling to cubs.

  • Justin Bieber

  • yo dude, that was a cougar (aka bobcat) screech,

my buddies and i were walking in the woods 2days ago and we actually saw it and do the scream...needless to say we GOT THE FUCK OUTTA THERE

  • a girl trying to scare you

  • This a fuckin bobcat!!!

  • a cougar

  • I heard that behind my house in North Alpharetta, Georgia, about 12 years ago. You could hear it over the TV. You don't forget it. I heard it often, wasnt as populated then.

  • heard that same noise in genoa arkansas

    it was a cougar

  • I Just heard that Same sound when i wake outside to fines watering my horses i froze turned the water off and came back inside. I heard they are letting mountain lions and panthers loose close to my house

  • An owl we have one that fly's around our neighborhood its craaazy like a woman screaming but sometimes you get lucky and see it going back and fourth in the trees

  • @420Matt4201 I found this cus I was looking for the noise I heard when fishing at night and this is it. Scared me running like a little girl to my car lol. Don't really care to know what it was either lol

  • I was camping with some friends and we heard one then seen it.we went to the car and it went around us on the hill screaming.Ive never been so close to shitting myself, and ive never seen my friends shake in fear lol

  • a mountain lion because a mountain lion makes that noise

  • careful with that axe, eugene!

  • Wow. The sound editing on this hoax really sucks. You can tell the different reverberating spaces on the screaming clip and the forrest background sound.

Besides, that perfectly looped sound is so very uncommon in nature. Sound replications like these are extremely uncommon due to mere vocal string fatigue and what not...

    Better luck next time dude.

  • This is a cougar, mountain lion whatever you want to call it, I live in the Rockies in the middle of no where, and this is what I hard also the other night, except the cat took off across my yard after my dog. Cougar Guaranteed

  • This is bull

  • Banshee? It's not a myth unless youve never expereienced it before :)

  • @candkatie11 It's just a cougar, hey maybe that's where the legend of banshees came from?

  • Each scream is the same. It's a recording being repeated.

  • ...it's a mountain lion

  • could be a banshee..ik it myth. but that's my best guess...unless you have older sibling trying to make u shit bricks :P

  • That sounds like a pre recording with someone pressing it over n over.

  • could be a cogar/moutain lion what ever u call it or a fox

  • Maybe a screaming Lynx.

  • Chuck Norris

  • @ScreamoRockzPRO HA! Comment of the week!

  • I once made the mistake of believing what sounded to us like a mountain lion, the sounds were sort of like a baby screaming when it was actually just coyotes.

  • This is the exact sound we heard outside of our house not to long ago

  • @Imawalkingparadox Freaky for sure! Check for cougar tracks around any bodies of water or sand trails if you've got 'em.

  • I heard screaming in the woods one time, it sounded like somebody was getting murdered. I was in oklahoma and my parents and grandparents always told me storys about how they saw and heard black panthers and how they sound like a woman screaming. And they told me to never go in the woods at night. So when i was by the fire at night i heard screaming and the next morning i went hiking and found cat paw prints the size of my hand.

  • it sounds kinda like a red fox to me look up red foxes screaming or barking on here and see :)

  • THAT WAS A MOUNTAIN LION!!

  • This is just the sound ripped from a screamer. What a tool.

  • sounds like a cougar scream.

  • Its a fox.. or a sqreech owl

    not to worry

  • that was definitely a bobcat watch the movie songcacther and it has the same sound that you heard its a movie about mountain people and this lady was running in the woods and heard the sounds of a woman screaming when its really the sound of a bobcat

  • Is it just me or does it sound like the same soundbite repeated again and again. Note the way it ends each time so abruptly.

  • @Zoidus Yes, I was only able to find the single sound of a cougar but the pattern is what I recreated. It's not a recording from the night I spent.

  • I would say it was either a mountian lion or someone being murdered

  • There is a mountain lion that runs the creek near my familys farm in north georgia, and while sittin on the porch at night enjoying conversation with friends, we heard a "woman screaming blood murder" we sat speechless and talked to some neighbors when they confirmed a "big brown cat" on their cuddyback outdoor camera. So ya its a cougar/mountain lion/bobcat just depending on where you as to what you call them....

  • @Crane5254 That's EXACTLY the feeling I had. "Someone's being killed.". Crazy huh?

  • Cougar...

  • Defiantly a cougar I heard the exact same thing a month ago in ukiah Oregon scared the s**t out of me

  • Sounds like a Republican on the morning after Obama was elected...

  • @zacker001 hahaha. Nice one.

  • @zacker001 right, god damn nigger

  • @zacker001 that waz pretty good lolz

  • from what i understand, its a cougar... ive not ever heard one before, but people tell me it sounds like a woman being raped and that was pertnear close to what it might sound like...

    freaky, very freaky.

  • Cougar

  • Yup Cougar i just heard one two nights ago walking in the hills at night barely off the road not ever 50 yards from the house in the black hills. Had to look it up and this is nearly the exact same thing i heard too you better believe i got back to my vehichle that was 25 yards away because it sounds about 100 yards behind me

  • It was me. I was bored.

  • It's one of them.. Queerosexuals..

    Or one a dem Sasquatches...

  • Mountain lion?

  • Finally found the sound I was looking for. Heard it in Winchester, VA in the middle of the night while I was sitting in an open field. Thing travels really fast.

  • Heard the same exact sounds late last night at home outside my bedroom window, probably less than 30 yards away--nearly scared me to death! I thought it was a woman screaming for a second, but realized it was some animal. (I just moved up here in the mountains of CO at 8100' elevation and have heard and seen all sorts of wildlife). Thanks for clarifying what I heard!

  • That sounds mechanical. That's either fake or it was a fox right outside your window lol.

  • you would be suprised. it sounds exactly like that.i heard it earlier

  • I've never heard a panther scream before, but I heard it sounds kind of like a woman screaming and that it is a very eery sound indeed...which fits every description of the scream in the video.

  • It's a cougar, there's no doubt about it.

  • Sounds like a Fox.

I watched a video on one and it's scream was horrific.

  • Definitely a cougar. I hear similar cries in the woods behind my house. Sounds like a woman being murdered so its creepy sometimes.

  • @miiciela left for dead

  • It sounds like a Female Mountain Lion.

  • ghost that might have died there and was trying to haunt you?

  • It's a wendigo! Nah, well it could be, but it's mostly like a mountain lion or somethin'

  • I agree that it sounds like a rabbit scream taking into account the panther track that you found the next day.

Late one night I heard a frog do that once (not quite the same or as loud) when a snake had tried to eat large frog. The frog was way too big to fit down snakes jaws and the frog wouldn't stop screaming. When I went out and found the snake with frog in mouth hanging from a tree I smacked the snake with a rake. It dropped the frog, the screaming stopped and we all went back to bed..

  • yep cougar..your recreation is simular but the cats scream end with more of a

'OOO" type of sound sort of like a house cats meeow...usually a female in heat calling a male..or during mating...or if she had small cubs she may be calling fo a lost cub..dosent matter still scares the crap out of ya

  • OMG! this scarded me so bad! & i live in El paso TX so i dont kno wt rabbits wolfs mountain lions sound like i wish! i wanna live somewhere were theres wolfs or cougers any1 kno a place i can move 2 when i grow up?

  • It sounds like a rabbit scream, except a rabbit's is more high-pitched. But both are scary as hell!

No I'm not trying to be funny. I've heard a rabbit scream, and it's the worst thing I've ever heard.

  • Sounds nothing like a cougar. It's hair-raising, I'll give it that, but it's very different from a cougar scream. They're much higher-pitched than that.

I can tell you- a cougar is a very terrifying thing to hear when you're walking back from the woods to your house in the dark without a flashlight... I had to keep myself from running.

  • couger =D

  • Definately a panther. My in-laws have one around thier place in TN and we've all heard it. I went tracking the next morning and found big cat tracks. Couple of weeks ago saw it 50 yards from the house.

  • Everyone says there is not any in Alabama but I've seen them. We have a black panther and a mountain lion that stays withing 30 miles of my house.

  • cougar

  • It is a cougar.

  • probs a cougar cause they sound like a woman screaming

  • @rjvideos99 i was reading a book on cougars and it said that they mostly only scream like that wen their maiting! lol

  • You do know that mountain lions, cougars, panthers whatever can sound like a woman screaming or a baby crying to trap a human?

  • Sounds similar to that of a red fox. Cougars are known to sound almost like a "womans scream" but from the sound you are recreating here I would have to lean towards the beast being little more than a humble red fox.

  • Comment removed

  • That is 100 percent a red fox dear sir.

  • I agree that it was probably a red fox that you heard. I made a video recording of a red fox mother teaching her young how to hunt out in my hay field. Youtube won't let me post a link but the title is "A listening Video". You can hear my sheep dogs barking in the foreground and the fox screaming in the background.

  • cougar cause they sound like that

  • youtube.com/watch?v=zk1mAd77Hr4&feature=related

  • Fox

  • it's a red fox. Search Red Fox Cry. We hear them all the time on our ranch, so I started thinking it was a possible mountain lion. Turns out, it's a red fox. I was suprised as well.

  • Mountain lion female most likely

  • why were you just randomly recording sound at night?

  • @maximum411 this was my best re-creation of the sound once i got home. i wish i recorded it live!

  • @outdoorsurvivaltv

LMFAO! So you trolled all these comments up with your video and when you had enough you spring this on them! From later comments I see you didn't do that, but at this point in the comments it looks like you just punked all these people. Good one!

  • @outdoorsurvivaltv if that's what it sounded like, then it WAS a mountain lion(cougar,panther,puma,etc.)--big cat, whatever. if you're in the woods and hear that, best thing to do is to be very quiet and have your firearm locked, loaded and off saftey.

  • @maximum411 that is a mountain lion (couger)

  • its some crazy women PMS

  • the devil screams like that!

  • @ncbookz yeah he was out there too.

  • @ncbookz LOL!

  • Cougar I am great at telling stuff about big cats and that was defenetly {I don't care if I spelled it wrong} a Cougar. OMG tht would scare me too

  • @Taylor5ist

Yep, Mountain Lion. They can sound like a woman screaming or a baby crying. A big, vocal dog can shut them up.

  • @Kaelland yep they're very skidish {like I said don't care if I spelled it wrong}

  • A friend and I once heard a scream winter camping---sounded like a horror movie scream. Not quite like the one here. It was followed by wolves howling and yelping. It woke the two of us up in a hurry--sounded like it was very close--we later decided to get up and build a fire. Haha

  • ...we thought is was a deer being killed by wolves

  • @ChadHClifford Hey Chad! I LOVE those stories and experiences. Great memories.

  • @ChadHClifford Could be a cat, they scream bad the howling and yelping were prolly cyotes, happens a lot where I live.

  • i was down in the woods 2nit working on a raft my friend and i were building and i heard a shrill scream just like that.i jumped on my golf cart and right as i was heading up the hill 2 get on the road,i swear i saw a pair of glowing eyes.it was the most terrified ive ever been in my life

  • @bReYeRhOrSeGuRl16 No. Not a fake. But definitely a reproduction. This is the closest match I could find online. And I found it on an animal sounds site. But I'm still trying to figure out what animal. This was just the closest. I think a member of the cat family. More to come! I wish I could have recorded it.

  • That is a moutain lion. I would know we had 4 attacks on our live stock. It sounds just like a lady screaming.

  • Could be a bird however if there aren't any that live near you, could be a migrating one or one that got lost. Although if I really had to guess I'd say it's a victim of a Chuck Norris attack. You're lucky to have survived

  • A cougar or a really loud bird, probably a cougar.

  • It's supposed to be a cougar - and yes, I have heard them where I live too.

  • I have been in the woods and spent months in the Rockies myself alone and living off the land. I have never heard anything like this. It isn't a bird of prey that i recognise, and while Cougars can make some pretty strange screams, it doesn't really remind me of a cougar either. I don't want to accuse you of faking the scream, so i will give you the benefit of the doubt. This recording is strange, but honestly I can't think of an animal that screams like that...except human made.

  • @branchingvine thanks bv. we have since determined it was indeed a cougar. freakiest thing i've ever heard.

  • Sounds like the la llorana

  • @tysoncollins hey tyson. thanks for the comment. after my research,

that's exactly what I think it was too. then I matched it with a cougar track that morning. definitely freaky.

  • Its a cougar screaming i herd the exact noice. google cougar screams and the first one

  • it's a screech owl. i hear it all the time when i'm with my dad

  • Mountian lion for sure. No doubt in my mind. Heard it several times just last weekend. Not a fake. A lion.

  • FAKE! Or perhaps someone with you that you asked to scream.....If in fact, you woke up to those first set of screams at 4:30 am, then you couldn't have been able to record the first set of screams.......only the second set......

Also, this scream matches perfectly to the screams used in those videos on you tube to scare people, you know the ones...its a calm video of something like a stream, then bamm, a scary face pops on the screen accompanied by those very same screams!!

  • I would like to add, that it is the same sound that a cougar/mountain lion makes as well, however, it makes no sense to me that you would be recording audio throughout the entire night as you slept?????

  • @shane0858 LOL! Right sorry! Let me clear something up! I got home from my trip and did some research and found the scream that almost exactly matched what I heard. I went through Screech Owl, Mountain Lion, Bobcat and even just a wild kitty cat. But this is what I came up with! So, NO, I didn't record through the night! That would have been awesome! Might have to try again in the same spot but I have a feeling this is a once in a lifetime experience.

  • No. Not a fake. But definitely a reproduction. This is the closest match I could find online. And I found it on an animal sounds site. But I'm still trying to figure out what animal. This was just the closest. I think a member of the cat family. More to come! I wish I could have recorded it.

  • It was some sort of bird!

  • @supersoccerdude10 Yeah, I went through those options too. Found a couple "maybes" but nothing exactly.
