They actual reality is this though -- the producer would sometimes tell the cast what restaurant or club to go to (i.e. to create good shots/scenes), but the actual conversations and drama was all real.
^^And that's all been confirmed and said multiple times by both the producer and cast members.
I think some parts were real. They obviously don't have a camera go around 24/7. They have scheduling. It's almost like "You go hang out with her, and then talk" or they tell them where they are going and work with that. Kristin said that they only shoot 3 days a week. I think of it as a social experiment. You are put with people you may or may not be comfortable with and they record your interaction. I'm sure Kristin is actually friends with Lo, Stephanie and Audrina.
artistically, i love it. better than just leaving it in the story. shows they had the balls to say, "yeah. this is life. this is how things go. its fake."
THATS FUCKING AWESOME. Now alli you bitches know how fake this shit was. I applaud this artistic choice. It was obviously fake the entire time and I love that they threw it back in your face.

At least the included a few moments of her in the final moments before the ending scene though...still though, it doesn't do the show justice :/

the reason they did it this way is to make you believe in what you want and make your own choices if you think it was fake or real.
