  • so when im finished riding my dirt bike and my air filter is dirty, do i wash the air filter off with soap and water and then let it dry completely and then put oil filter all over the filter ? .. sorry for so many "and's". but great video !!

  • what would you recommend cleaning the filter with?

  • @gard1ner1 If the manufacturer of your oil makes a cleaner use it. If not then mineral spirits or a degreaser that is water soluble

  • What is the difference between the air filters for pit bikes and dirt bikes the look totally different. Is it an intake or something? Really confused

  • my crf250r smokes alot when i start and idel havnt ridden it running like that ... starts up fine but smellt musty at first when i started it any ideas what this can be/?

  • @crfracer769

You need to determine what it is burning. Is it oil, coolant, or did you get water into the exhaust when washing it?

  • May I say this is the best tutorials I've seen!

  • ummm...

  • Thanks for this video!!

  • and where can i buy air filter oil?

  • @1yamaha413

Check with your local dealer or you can order it from online retailers like Motosport Outlet.

  • what do you clean the filter with?

  • @1yamaha413

What you clean the filter with really depends on the type of filter oil you are using. I would use whatever the oil manufacturer rcommends.

  • is engine oil used by your transmision too? or is that seperate?

  • @126mx

On 4 stroke mx bikes the Honda uses seperate oil for the engine and transmission. The Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha an KTM's use the same oil for both the engine and transmission.

On 2 strokes the engine uses oil that you mix with the gas and the transmission oil is seperate. Hope this helps.

  • thanks didnt know that (i hav 2 stroke)

  • Hey dude great video and everything very valuable information but you didnt show us how you cleaned the old air filter before you oil it... When you clean the ones on ur bikes do you do it the exact same way as the way u put the oil on there? evenly pouring the cleaning the air filter cleaning agent around the filter and drowning the filter in water squeezing all the dirt out?

  • @Jakemxr

How you clean a filter really depends on what type of filter oil you use. I use No Toil which can be cleaned with Oxyclean and warm water. Some filter oils require solvents to remove the oil. I would suggest reading the instructions on your filter oil bottle and using the cleaner they recommend. Just like oiling the filter, you should also clean the filter properly as the oil is what traps the dirt. Leaving old oil in the filter means you still have dirt in it also. Hope this helps.

  • @ForsheeMS Thanks, I use the Motorex air filter oil 206 which is sold with a bottle of Motorex air filter cleaner which i use. the Instructions are rubbish on the bottle of the cleaner goes into no detail. just says pour contents into motorex cleaner tub and drown air filter to clean and allow to dry. i just wanted to know the portions cuz i dont think the cleaner is supposed to be applied directly without being dilluted in water. How much water do you think i should mix in with the cleaner, che

  • @Jakemxr

The Motorex cleaner is to be used undiluted. It comes with a plastic container so you can use it to clean more than 1 filter. The thing I don't like about that is the fact that after you clean the first filter you are cleaning the rest with dirty solvent. The other problem is now you have to dispose of the dirty solvent. That's why I recommend the No Toil oil since it's biodegradable and can be cleaned with Oxyclean. No hazardous chemicals to deal with.

  • @ForsheeMS Ok Thank you VERY MUCH i will definetly take this into consideration next time i clean my air filters.

    Cheers,

  • Great vid!!! Wel made and some good info!

    Thanks!

    Thanks!

  • when putting it back, how do you know when the filter is perfectly alligned?

  • @jackathin

That really depends on the bike as they're all a little different. Most have something common between the air box and the filter cage to help get everything lined up. What bike do you have?

  • o ok thanks

  • is that a ttr 230?

  • @ilikecarots

No, it's a 2009 YZ125. On the TTR230 you access the air filter through a plate on the left side of the airbox.

  • Thanks for the great video. Thorough and informative. Learned plenty. Thanks ;)

  • Great video. Thorough and very informative. Thank ;) Now, where's that air filter oil!

  • Hi, I just ride my RMZ 250 on fields so it gets muddy but not really any dust. Around many times should I change my Air Filter?

    Thanks Joe

  • @xSxIxLxExNxTx

I have at least 3 filters for each of our bikes so I can change filters after every ride, then clean the dirty ones when I get a chance. I would at least change the filter after 2 rides. It's cheap insurance.

  • the air filter in my 02 yz 125 is really dirty it has rust and stuff on it from the seat should i change it?

  • @joshwaggoner14 you should change itr regularly, so yes change away.
