nick lidstrom used to live in my sub division, it was pretty cool cause my best friend in 4th grade was like family friends with their family. when he came to parent teacher conferences mostly everyone knew him. Then he moved and got even more famous its pretty fkin amazing. Ordinary people can do extraordinary things!

Sure, he's struggled in the playoffs but you can't neglect the fact that Cloutier did as well. Lu has been much more consistent than Cloutier in his career, you can't even compare the two. Not to mention, goalie pads are twice as big as they were back then.

Obviously, no one will ever truly know who is better, but to pretend like Orr is miles ahead of Lidstrom is just absurd. If anything, they're tied for first as the best defenseman ever.

If Cloutier wasn't so awful, Detroit probably still would have come back to win this series, but the Canucks would have had a good chance at the Cup in 02-03. They were up 3-1 on the Wild and he blew it.

I don't think this goal was the reason the series turned in favour of the Wings. If you watch game 1 and game 2 closely, the Canucks barely squeezed those two victories out and scored some really lucky goals. I remember watching the game as a Canuck fan and sitting on the edge of my seat literally scared to death because the Wings were that close to have the first two games. Dan just let in a weak goal here. He let in a lot of weak goals but he isn't the main reason why Canucks lost this series.

@BSabres87 we actually lost games because of him. even with the bert and nazzy scoring around 50 goals. lu's contract is 64 mil over 12years.... i know its not set out at 5.xx a year. i believe he gets paid more of it now than later but still. While he was gettin paid his most, we went to the cup finals. made playoffs tons. dont be a prick, he has his bad spells but when he rips it up he wont choke the next day..Hell keep it going..like the champ he is.

@BSabres87 You can't judge a goalie's career like that. Luongo has the best record of any Canucks goalie, and in significantly less games played. Sure, he's struggled in the playoffs but you can't neglect the fact that Cloutier did as well. Lu has been much more consistent than Cloutier in his career, you can't even compare the two. Read up on your facts before you choose to make ignorant comments.

@TemplarKnight5 Bobby Orr played in an era where 95% of players were about half as physically fit and athletically adept as they are today. Lidstrom's competition is infinitely more difficult to play against.
Not to mention, goalie pads are twice as big as they were back then.

@TemplarKnight5 And just as a side note, Lidstrom played half of his career in the '90s when there was a ridiculous anti-European bias throughout the league. He easily could've captured two or three more Norris' in the late '90s, which would have put him ahead of Orr in that category.
Obviously, no one will ever truly know who is better, but to pretend like Orr is miles ahead of Lidstrom is just absurd. If anything, they're tied for first as the best defenseman ever.

@TemplarKnight5 He is able to read plays, see through the play and stop it. Lidstrom scores often but more importantly, he does his job, he stays back supplies passes into the forwards and they score. Lidstrom is the more effective player.

Anyone who doesnt hate Detroit because theyve been so dominate the last two decades knows without a doubt that Lidstrom is probably the best defenseman to ever play the game. @juzu4me Lidstrom not in the top 5 to play? His 7 Norris Trophies are 2nd all time, only 1 behind Orr, who played in a much different game than they are playing now. Also, Lidstrom was a huge reason they've won these four cups. Pavel didn't play until '02 so I don't know why you would bring him up for those '97 '98 and '02 wins. Any unbiased non-Detroit hater, and I know there are a lot of them, would agree that Lidstrom is in the top 5 defenseman of all time if not #1.

And, oh yes, in 2009, Lidstrom received 11% of the vote as best player in the NHL, second to Ovechkin. In 2010, he received 25% (first) as the best shut down D-man. Impressive to say the least, considering his offensive numbers. If I looked up other relatively modern polls, I'm sure I could find Weber and Chara ahead of him occasionally, but the AHL comment was just pathetic. Do you still watch hockey? I honestly can't tell.

I don't think this goal was the reason the series turned in favour of the Wings. If you watch game 1 and game 2 closely, the Canucks barely squeezed those two victories out and scored some really lucky goals. I remember watching the game as a Canuck fan and sitting on the edge of my seat literally scared to death because the Wings were that close to have the first two games. Dan just let in a weak goal here. He let in a lot of weak goals but he isn't the main reason why Canucks lost this series.

that is not true AT ALL i happpen to know swedes AND russians and they are no different. how would u know that they think theyre better than everybody? have u lived in each of those places for over 4 years each? although i was born in and currently live in america, americans r the ones who think theyre better. of course i love america, but its true
