MEGADETH blew them away live, and metallica tried to hard to keep up with megadeth.

Nope. There are plenty of things Metallica's done that I don't like. They don't play material from those because they felt the thrashy stuff would go best in the set with the music from Death Magnetic, as they've said themselves. Furthermore, they did play songs from them on the World Magnetic tour, just not as often. What has Kirk's makeup got to do with the music Metallica makes? Oh yeah, nothing. You know, bands have an essence, and some bands stray from that, and it always fails, just so they can fit in and stay relevant. But the bands that stay true, end up becoming much more successful, look at bands like AC/DC, or KISS, or the Rolling Stones, they've sold more records, and are more respected. They didn't sell out.
