Nice job man. What did you do about the remaining glue on the floor? I've recently given my accent the same treatment, but the deadening mats in the footwell didn't co-operate and left alot of ugly glue behind.
@knobcheese69 Yes , the glue is problem. I used cellulose paint thinner / petrol / white spirit, anything i could find in my shed to get rid of the residue!
@munnsey Cheers for that man. So far I've tried mineral turps, degreaser and petrol to get it off. Its certainly a pain in the ass! How long until it is on the road/track mang? What is the goal with this build?
haha when i did mine i left the bare car in rain for weeks (my bad LOL) soo inside floor of car was flooded, when i went too do this and it just fell off the the floor, was only for sppedway anyways :P
12.5! Best time i know of in UK is 14.2, and mid 13's is about the best i have ever of heard, in New Zealand. I not sure how much in total but there is about 10-15Kg of just the tar deadening, plus the rear seats, carpet, trim panels. I reckon 50kg total.
Search "GTti 17/7/2011" to see how it looks now, getting there.

Still, nice job you did there! You going to weigh the car??
gtrsean83 2 years ago
Yes, should be 750kg or less (standard car is 818kg)
munnsey 2 years ago
Using dry ice is a lot easier and cleaner as it makes the tar deadener very brittle and easy to chip away.
gtrsean83 2 years ago
Yes i did hear that.

good to see a GTTI ownder taking weight saving seriously .
how much weight have you cut
.i remember seeing a gtti on ebay that had shed a hell of allot of weight and was said to run 12.5 1/4 and its engine spec was not to special either
Janaida 3 years ago
have you made a false floor where the spare wheels go .that will save allot too
i think people use acetotone to remove tar also
