@Rafaelsw1 You are trying to say: "he is very good, BUT victor wooten is better". Tinha que ser brasileiro mesmo, pra trocar o MAS / PORÉM, por "mais com i". Aprende agora: a palavra "porém" em inglês é BUT, e não, MORE, como vc escreveu.

seeing how this is from the "HOT LICKS: Stuart Hamm - Slap, Pop & Tap For The Bass Guitar" program and is bassist of choice for people such as satch, vai and zappa, i'd say that proves he's good
Interestingly enough, by his own admission he's not a great piano player, he said in an interview that he can play basic chords and such, but can't do a lot better than that. He does however, use piano and other instruments constantly as a source of creation, and eventually using his bass to play a wide variety of tunes
Agreed it's not the best of his playing. I first heard this in the early 80's when our bassist was playing albumn cuts to give us some insight into his influences. The version I heard back then was awesome. Typically, untrained muscicans dont care that much for improvisation. That's why Jazz is mostly enjoyed by Jazz muscicians and the few listeners who "get it".
Stu Hamm was doing this long before it became common place.he is one of the innovators of 2 hand tapping on bass. This is an old video.Check out more of his stuff on the net and you will see just how groundbreaking of a bass player he is!
Wow, he seems pretty good, but his execution of this relatively easy piece seems a little lacking... I'm sure he's got some amazing stuff out there though.
this is the comment you make when you have no musical knowledge and you are are a peice of shit whose only escape from depression is to insult others anonamously on the internet
I don't know what to say. The technique is there. The skills are there. I do not play the bass guitar. It doesn't seem to swing the way I'm used to. dleesnuts isn't far off. I wouldn't say this is an easy piece by any stretch though. I'm very impressed by his tapping technique. I realize this is his own version but do I think he can do better? Yes.
its an easy piece when you're playing with other people because you are basically outlining the chords for everyone else to fill in. But stu hamm does all the chords as if he is the band. Besides, its way easier to do on a piano.. but when you do something as complex as what he did, some strings are being "occupied" by certain notes, so while he's tapping, he has to make sure he doesn't distrupt those other strings when they resonate. So timing is key.
He's great now, this must be an old video. The intro part is really rough and all over the place in terms of timing. I saw him perform this live 5 years ago and it was flawless.
I saw that same tour--Satriani, Hamm and a third guitarist--it was like G3 before G3, and Stu Hamm stole the show with Peanuts.

Saw him play this during a Joe Satriani concert at the Palace in New Haven CT sometime around 1989 and it sounded amazing. Oh, that was a great show.
