Actually they could pass whatever they want with 50 seats, with 60 votes the Senate can vote to forcefully end fillibusters; you would need 66 seats to pass absolutly anything over a presidental veto. I do want to point out however that having 60 is not a gaurntee that they could break fillibusters, and fewer then 60 is not a gaurntee that fillibusters couldn't be broken by crossover votes either.

Unfortunately, you're probably right -- they have to wait a while before they can become a lobbyist (I think a year or two). But he's pretty old now and getting more ancient by the minute. Maybe we'll all be lucky and he'll just retire.
