The classic Unicorn's tail looks like a Gems Buck tail! A unicorn in classical has cloved hoves...not a single hoof. That only appeared in modern art (one hoof not cloved hooves)
So in a way a Unicorn is half horse half ungulate (deer family based). But who's arguing? Its a mythological creature anyways XD

I think alot of hunters would like to have that deer as trophy because it IS different. I don't think this had anything to do with hunters taking the better deer. I think this was just a random mutation that happens from time to time. It also reminds me of the asian version of the unicorn. In the asian unicorn the horn sweeps back over the head just like that. I can assure you that your local DNR will do its best to keep the deer population in your area in good numbers. but you know killing deer is a good and fun experience if you are respectfull about nature like not just shooting to kill but you shoot them or arch them for the meat, to keep deer population controlled, and to keep them from depleting other animal populations. if deer where not controlled they bring themselves to extinction by depleting their own food and resources. thats why we hunt
but i do agree with you as far as using the meat and skin of the anmal if you dont eat what you kill theres really no point in hunting, its a waste. However i do know people that kill animals and then donate the meat to soup kitchens and so on.

the truth is that this deer needs to be killed, not as a trophy, but becuase of genetics. It's highly doubtful that he would be able to mate, because any other buck that has both antlers would brutally kill this deer, but if he did mate with a doe it is likely the fawn would have the same bad gentics. It is more humane for a hunter to shoot the deer and it wont feel hardly any pain, than a bigger buck coming and killing the inferior one who cant defend itslef.
No, actually it DOSENT/didnt need to be killed. If it wasnt going to be able to mate, then it would just die off on its own. Simple as that. If it did mate, and its children had the same mutation, then they would die off on their own too. And if THEY mated, then its possibly just the next step in evolution. A single horn could be alot more accurate then two. Like if this deer here were to head but with another male deer over a fawn, the horn could potentially go through the other males skull.

Actually, no, the first unicorns (traditional unicorns) were very small goat like or deer like animals. The best description is the animal with the head of a deer, body of a goat, and a lions tail or head of a goat, body of a deer,and tail of a lion. Over time they changed to horse, but that is very recent. Growing up I came to learn about the unicorn as looking like an anelope or a deer so saying he looks like a unicorn is not that bizarre, and even the horse-LIKE version of unicorns tend to have cloven hooves.
Unicorn simply means 'one horn'. Thus the deer is a unicorn. Unicorns are often shown to be deer like horses with lion tails. :) It think it is highly possible that this could have been an inspiration for the well known unicorn.

It is just an extremely rare and odd deer that was hoped to be in that national park, and now the keepers know it is there, they'll probably look for it, find it and put it in a cage to breed!

This happens when animals over populate and start to inbreed. It is deformed and should be taken out of the breeding line. If not its offspring's horns could grow in to its neck or head. This could inflict sever pain and infection. It is very unhealthy/ Inhumane to allow this animal to reproduce.
Wouldn't inbreeding be more likely to occur in a very small population, not a large one? I would think a large population would discourage that. It's probably just a random mutation that cropped up, much like albinism crops up from time to time in other animal populations. If the population is small and its an inheritable trait, it *might* spread, esp. if their is geographical limitations, but otherwise, its probably harmless.
Most random mutations are just that--random. They usually cannot be passed on to young. If it is a trait that can be passed on, its usually going to be a recessive trait that necessitates another animal with the same recessive trait to breed with it to pass it on. Dominant mutations do occur, but they aren't as common. This deer could probably breed just fine. Unless this is a specific mutation that I'm unaware of.
Oh please... if you're going to say that about animals, then perhaps start looking at human deformaties and genetic lines that are not only helped, but encouraged to breed.
If anyone here has studied deer as much as I have, then you will understand "genetic throw-back." As with any animal since evolution has played the most important role of today you will know all the animals we see now are not the same as the ones from 3 million years ago. The whitetail deer is that old, well animals very similar. Since the ecology has changed over time, so have the deer. This deer is for sure a genetic throw-back. This deer is showing characteristics of its ancestors.

I can assure you that your local DNR will do its best to keep the deer population in your area in good numbers. but you know killing deer is a good and fun experience if you are respectfull about nature like not just shooting to kill but you shoot them or arch them for the meat, to keep deer population controlled, and to keep them from depleting other animal populations. if deer where not controlled they bring themselves to extinction by depleting their own food and resources. thats why we hunt

but i do agree with you as far as using the meat and skin of the anmal if you dont eat what you kill theres really no point in hunting, its a waste. However i do know people that kill animals and then donate the meat to soup kitchens and so on.

the truth is that this deer needs to be killed, not as a trophy, but becuase of genetics. It's highly doubtful that he would be able to mate, because any other buck that has both antlers would brutally kill this deer, but if he did mate with a doe it is likely the fawn would have the same bad gentics. It is more humane for a hunter to shoot the deer and it wont feel hardly any pain, than a bigger buck coming and killing the inferior one who cant defend itslef.

No, actually it DOSENT/didnt need to be killed. If it wasnt going to be able to mate, then it would just die off on its own. Simple as that. If it did mate, and its children had the same mutation, then they would die off on their own too. And if THEY mated, then its possibly just the next step in evolution. A single horn could be alot more accurate then two. Like if this deer here were to head but with another male deer over a fawn, the horn could potentially go through the other males skull.

if that were true all deer by now would have a single horn, i have seen more deer than this only with a single horn. in case you dont know their antlers fall off every year and then regrow. If a single horn would some way make them survive longer or easier, dont you think that thee single horned deer would be out populating the normal deer.

im not saying it IS whats going to happen, im saying its a POSSIBILITY. how do you think deer got horns in the first place? their was a mutaition, and some bone or cartalige grew out of the head. this deer was able to cause pain to other deer, and thus they stayed away from him. this deer then mated, and a few generaitions later, another mutaition occored, ETC.
and their are other factors. maby the deer was shot or killed, maby it fell of a cliff, a thousand things could have happend to the

Actually, no, the first unicorns (traditional unicorns) were very small goat like or deer like animals. The best description is the animal with the head of a deer, body of a goat, and a lions tail or head of a goat, body of a deer,and tail of a lion. Over time they changed to horse, but that is very recent. Do you're homework, retard and read about them or look at Renaissance pictures showing WHEN THEY WERE FIRST USED IN LORE and you won't find a horse

Growing up I came to learn about the unicorn as looking like an anelope or a deer so saying he looks like a unicorn is not that bizarre, and even the horse-LIKE version of unicorns tend to have cloven hooves.

Unicorn simply means 'one horn'. Thus the deer is a unicorn. Unicorns are often shown to be deer like horses with lion tails. :) It think it is highly possible that this could have been an inspiration for the well known unicorn.

i guess i see both points of view... if it breeds, then we have a problem. the next ones could be horribly deformed and suffer all their life. but its an animal that should be treated fairly. anyways, it is kind of cool to see!

It is just an extremely rare and odd deer that was hoped to be in that national park, and now the keepers know it is there, they'll probably look for it, find it and put it in a cage to breed!

This happens when animals over populate and start to inbreed. It is deformed and should be taken out of the breeding line. If not its offspring's horns could grow in to its neck or head. This could inflict sever pain and infection. It is very unhealthy/ Inhumane to allow this animal to reproduce.

Wouldn't inbreeding be more likely to occur in a very small population, not a large one? I would think a large population would discourage that. It's probably just a random mutation that cropped up, much like albinism crops up from time to time in other animal populations. If the population is small and its an inheritable trait, it *might* spread, esp. if their is geographical limitations, but otherwise, its probably harmless.

Most random mutations are just that--random. They usually cannot be passed on to young. If it is a trait that can be passed on, its usually going to be a recessive trait that necessitates another animal with the same recessive trait to breed with it to pass it on. Dominant mutations do occur, but they aren't as common. This deer could probably breed just fine. Unless this is a specific mutation that I'm unaware of.

If anyone here has studied deer as much as I have, then you will understand "genetic throw-back." As with any animal since evolution has played the most important role of today you will know all the animals we see now are not the same as the ones from 3 million years ago. The whitetail deer is that old, well animals very similar. Since the ecology has changed over time, so have the deer. This deer is for sure a genetic throw-back. This deer is showing characteristics of its ancestors.
