Thanks for a great video. Glad you used simple chuggery to really demonstrate the crushing tone of this amp, instead of incoherent widdle like a lot of people do. I'm considering buying one (with the Krank cab) and this has helped a lot. Thanks again
Very dry amps, You gotta be good as in the gain doesnt hide your mistakes. I got the krankenstein and krankenstein cab and its been makin me play better and more precise.
so is the Rev+ heavier than the Krankenstien or what? I'm just trying to find the heaviest, crunchiest, warmest amp out there with an ass load of gain and low end that holds together at high volumes, if anyone could help that would be awesome
@iChugCoffee Krankenstein has more gain I think. It wont sound nearly as tight as the Rev. Its better for heavy riffs, not and melodic metal or any of that. But thats going into a lot of detail. The difference isnt too great. The difference is the Krankenstein has a solid state pre amp (i think Randall) so its a little bit warmer and crunchier.
@guitargod250 Oh sweet, thats what i have now, an old Randall RG100 2x12 combo that i found at guitar center but i was stuck on either Krank or Randall but i didnt know the Krank had a solid state preamp, now i'm sure which amp i'm getting.
@guitargod250 Correction: The Krankenstein does not have a solid state preamp it is a full tube amp it has four 12AX7 pre-amp tubes and has four 6550 power tubes (This is the plus version I'm talking about and I'm reading from the company site) The Randall RG100 is fully solid state(Both pre and power amp sections) I presume. Just thought I let you know that's all, no offense is meant to be given. :)
after listing to kranks and lots of others i love kranks sound i play metal hard rock death metal and kranks are perfect now i just wish i could afford one lol
I know... it always seems like the people who play these amp test videos play shitty riffs. They should play something melodic death metal instead of just the open string over and over.
@SteeleInd line 6 isnt that bad really. i have a 50 watt 1962 ampeg reverberocket. i run my line 6 spider III 15 into my ampeg becayse its a tube amp and it makes the line 6 sound so much better especially on the insane channel. but line 6 does have many downsides.
@SteeleInd hell yeah they do. i prefer tube over solid state. i try to be careful though when using my Ampeg because its so damn old so i just use the hell outta my Line 6. if i need to go loud than ill run my Line 6 into my Ampeg. i really do like the Line 6 Spider Valve. the only problem i have is i like to switch between clean and heavy distortion a lot but the pod pedals just arent that same to me its kinda hard
i love peavey amps i have a 30 watt vypyr that is amazing but im thinking of swappin for a 75 wattt for recording btw this thing fucks up my friends 75watt line 6 spyder
My first head was a Bugera 333XL, they arnt as good as people make you think, the noise gate is horrible on it, doesnt work, and they fall apart easily. After going through 5 different amps I finally found a Peavey 5150 II and its the best amp I can ask for, I had options to get Kranks, Mesa Duals and Triples, Line 6 Spider Valves, but the 5150 II blows all of them away with tone.
me personally, if you want a nice metal amp head i would Go with Randall if you're looking for a good deal with sick tone. if u got a lot of cash to dish out, go with the Mesa Krank or Orange, those all have Sick tone as well
idk anything about thses amps so im prob gonna sound stupid, but ive only heard thses with distortion and high gain, do they have clean channel? and if so how is it?
id need to ask on your opinion cuz ppl always telling different shit.... between krank rev / mesa rectifier / peavey 6505 / engl invader / diezel herebert ........ To your knowledge whch is the best.? for hardcore/progressive playing (bands like sikth/architects/as i lie dying/ parkway drive)
like you play metal right? I'd go with the 6505. Krank amps sounds better with krank cabs, we have two cabs, a rectifier 4x12 with celestions speakers and a krankenstein cab with eminence texas heat and definitely the krank cabs sounds better.
i like this sound so fucking much, i wonder how krank will sound with a marshall cabinet. if you have a marshall cabinet would you put a vid of that combination up to?
ok thanks, you are probably fucking happy with those amps :) if i get more money ( im currently just 15 years old, so its a bit hard work :P) im sure im going to buy a krank or mesa :)
I too play my Krank through a 1960 cab. Yep, sounds like complete ass. Lots of high end and has an ear piercing shrill sound. I've thought of buying the Krank cab, or another cab with eminence speakers as a possible remedy. Not real sure though. Any thoughts on that or suggestions? Thanks.
look up "basson cabs" they sell there 300 watt air tight sealed cab with emi legends for 600 at guitar center. my buddies endorsed and has 2 and they OWN
I can tell you that the old celestions from the uk are really good, but the new china ones are shit! You have find a box with two different speakers like the Mesa Roadking!
This box sounds so amazing!
This box and a 4X12 box with texas heat or something like!
I have the Krank Rev and i would not trade it for any other amp, and the mesa cab does not sound as good as the krank cab, the krank has a sound to it that kicks ass
I don't have that cab anymore. What I might try and do is record the same song with the Oversize cab with the guitar in the same tuning so you can hear the difference between the 2 cabs.
Yes it has V30's. That is the Traditional sized cab. I have since got the Standard (oversized) Mesa cab and prefer it to the Traditional one. I tried the Rev and 'stein through the Krank Rev cab and Mesa cab side by side and much preferred the Mesa. Also, the Mesa Standard is the top choice for recording as well. Check out my other videos for the Rev and 6505 through the Mesa Standard (oversized) cab. Unfortunately the mic on the vidcam distorts a little but you can get an idea of the tone.

Yeah, the biggest problems being that people associate them automatically with solid state amps, but their tube amps are pretty damn good.
Especially the HD100.

I played that amp its a joke, it doesnt respond to strumming like a tube amp. It does have a little tube saturation but, sounds mostly digital

SteeleInd 2 years ago
