@Iriseon, spiders actually CAN climb sandstone. Look for this video on Youtube: "Minecraft Mythbusters: Revisited! Ep4 BUSTED!"

But don't worry, your trap can be improved by putting toasters on the tops of the walls by the ceiling so that it doesn't light up the area, and the spiders who climb will also die. It will make your trap more like an oven than a toaster. >:D

@markdadisman007 Check the date on the video. The truth is that spiders can't climb those walls no matter what kind of building material is there. Thanks for the suggestion but that's not how it works.

I've got a Triple Dungeon which contains a Zombie Spawner, a Skeleton Spawner and a Spider Spawner. I'm trying to find a Universal Grinder that won't lose any of my drops. Going to try Netherack Toasting. Spiders are annoying.

I actually attached a darkness room on to the triple dungeon after figuring out how to modify your Netherack toaster to suit my needs. It's 80x80x4 and works really efficiently. It's probably one of the best things that I've built.

@fishworshipper absolutely, just find a way the items won't hit the cacti on the way to collection and break (but then again, it's only piles and piles of string so no big deal if some of them disappear)

@pccalcio test on the ground before you start the water flow. Brush up against a lit netherrack or a contained block of lava. These toasting ends should be north and east and north-east sides of the heat sources themselves which you will push enemies toward, from south, west and/or south-west.

Spiders can climb sandstone... you have to use soul sand or a roof

@mudlums really? None of them climbed these walls, but they did when it was cobblestone. They all die in this trap unless they're standing on the spawner itself.

@Iriseon It must have been fixed in an update, because it said on the wiki that spiders couldn't climb sandstone, but then it was removed because as they said in the talk page, "I can confirm that spiders can, in fact, climb every block in the game."

@tjb0607 yeah, this is something I need to go back and explicitly test. I thought that with the whole room covered they couldn't climb but if there were holes or jutting blocks the spider would climb the edge regardless of surface. Maybe the water is stopping the spiders from climbing but I can't be sure without jumping back in there to confirm.

I plan to make a toaster trap next time I find a dungeon on a SMP server. But they don't give out any items so I can't get netherrack. I'm assuming this works with logs too?

@K1LLSW1TCH4 yeah it should, never tried so close to water but they definitely hurt/burn on the same sides. Also lava but it's more room to encase it in blocks.

@MSGMROX I only noticed them climbing when one wall wasn't complete, climbing a door-sized hole without being able to get through, but none of them seem to be able to get a grasp when the whole wall is sandstone....yet
