  • I fixed my problem on my 5850 with a bios mod. I flashed the 5870 bios onto my card and set the 2d clocks to the same at 3d clocks, so I really get no 2d mode anymore, and doing that allowed my card to use 1.163v which allowed me to overclock further since my card don't support voltage overclocks.

  • this didn't work for me on 2.1 version of Afterburner - Actually the EnableUnofficialOverclocking option is not listed - chose the closest setting under the same section as possible - followed the rest of the video - didn't work - any setting other then 850/1200 for memory/gpu settings on my card - flickering continues on second monitor

  • thanks man big help

  • @bleachking1994 No problem! Sorry, I try to respond to most of the comments left on my video, but have been a bit busy lately. Glad it worked!

  • @getlow1985 it works sometime and other time it doesn't now. so this is good but i still think ill flash it later on

  • @bleachking1994 Sadly I know this method only works for some people, not all :( Good luck on getting it fully fixed!

  • @getlow1985 thanks man

  • Thanks Getlow! Quick question. I have two 5850's and I want to overclock them both. I can't find anything for the life of me that allows me to overclock BOTH cards. Before I had my 2nd card, I could successfully overclock my single card.. but now I have two. Any help? I've been using Afterburner and AMD GPU Clock Tool.

  • @Brian12817 If you go into settings on Afterburner you can select "Synchronize settings for similar graphics processors". Hopefully that should work. Thanks for watching!

  • I was expecting something easier and faster

btw your voice is so annoying man! stop "lowering it"! ;O

  • @freezoid123 I hate to tell you, but quite a few females like my voice. :)

  • found a way how to fix my problem! =D

Anyone whose still experiencing problem with this, try "flash your bios" worked for me! =D

a bit risky but, its up to u.

  • Ah damn it still didnt work T_T

  • @H3nryTheChief Sorry man :(

  • @getlow1985 no worries, i fixed it! :D

but i didnt use ur method u see xD

i flashed my card and boosted it's voltage or something.

was kinda scared cause there was a risk of bricking my card, and i never done this before, but it all worked out! :D

But u helped a lot of ppl so yeah, thanks for sharing ur method and im pretty sure, it'll help alot of ppl :)

  • Where can I find the older 2.0.0 version?

  • @Tinke8 I'm unsure, try searching on Google or some tech forums. I do apologize for being unable to help you.

    -Zac

  • Thanks, this fixed my flicker on my triple screen setup.

  • @Artopunk14 Wow, I'm surprised it still works, but that's great! Congrats!

  • Seems to have worked, thanks!

  • @AlaztorGFX Awesome man! Glad it worked!

  • Thx for the vid man, been trying to get rid of this flicker since what seems the beginning of time! cheers

  • @yescomrade Great! Glad it all worked out.

  • I did this about 5 months ago and it worked fine...........a week ago a got a new HDD and re installed a new copy of windows .... did the same thing to fix the second screen flickering in my HIS HD5770 with Catalyst 11.4............this time it doesn't work........

  • @JMpcFreak The drivers may be too new. I can't really test it my self since I don't have my 5870 anymore.

  • @getlow1985 Fixed it , went from Catalyst 11.4 to 11.2 and it was still flickering, after that i found a screen shot of my old pc set up from 5 moths ago and noticed i had Afterburner v2.0.0 and today i was using v2.1.0 and i found the old version and that was the trick ; )

  • @JMpcFreak Awesome! Glad it worked!

  • @CoreToCremo No problem glad it worked!

  • Damn I have this problem but I've also got that shity problem where CCC won't even open what a joke. The only time I can open it is right after an update but right now eveything is fully updated so I can't open it ! FUCK.

  • @WaRSPiRiTUK I'm sorry bud.

  • Didnt really work for me. The flicker is a lot less now, but it often shows up again for a few seconds then stops for maybe 30-60 seconds.

    which CCC version is that?

  • @TheCentrix I don't remember the version and sorry it didn't fully work.

  • How did you find the workaround?

  • @PatrickSchoenb It took a lot of work but I think I found it in some forums. I don't have any clue where though.

  • It also fixed it for me. Currently, I am tryng to get an official fix out of XFX, but they deny any problem with the graphics card.

Gellow1985, are you able to explain what your fix actually does or what causes the flickering?

  • @PatrickSchoenb No I can't. I think it's more of an AMD/ATI problem than an XFX problem. After having further problems with my ATI video driver I went back to Nividia.

  • thx man this fixed the problem:)

  • @gryzzleyman Great! Glad it worked!

  • Holly shit! its actually works. Thanks man = )

Now if you could only fix the problem of shitty ati drivers

  • @nuggz503 Yeah sorry I can't fix that haha.

  • Wow yah thankx alot. You fixed my problem. I am using the 5870 with 11.1 drivers and I never could overclock the card with neither the new or old drivers. I don't know how this technically fixes the problem, but it did fix it. Thanks a million. Now I just need to figure out why it crashes during game play and online video. Any Idea? Thx

  • @groundwire123 Nice glad it worked! I'm sorry I don't really have a clue but you may try overclock[.]net I'm very active there with a ton of other people willing to help. My name on overclock[.]net is fastsite.

  • Worked also for my 1GB Gigabyte HD5830

  • @Mikkjaat Great! Glad it worked!

  • thanks!

  • @andreasrmoen No problem :)

  • thanx my 5870 works real good now! I set it 915mhz core, 1285 memory fan speed 34% and standard voltage. On default settings the card sux! :D

  • @ozpc123 Nice clocks!

  • thanks, the flicker is gone now, and the MSI Afterburner is alot better in my opinion then the ati overdrive. set fan speeds when it hits the certain degree.

  • so what exactly do we set it for a 5870, not sure what im setting profiles too?

  • @nospig5 you overclock it to the settings you want. if you are watching this video because you have a constant flickering this video is not for you. its only for people who are trying to overclock.

  • Worked a treat, thanks Getlow, I was about to flash my cards BIOS but this is a lot less of a headache.

    Cheers

  • @ghostofgar Glad to hear it worked and glad to save you some time :) thanks for watching!

  • after googling and searching the countless threads on this issue on the amd forums with no luck... i found this vid and all i gotta to say is THANK YOU!

  • @breakfastjak haha not a problem i posted a thread on overclock [.] net but it didnt get many view

  • Excellent work, this fixed it for me.

  • @devilzsmile sweet! thanks :)

  • Thanks man, this worked a treat for me (using 5850)

  • @sebasaus no problem glad it worked

  • even if i don't overclock i still get these issues...

  • thanks a ton man, this completely solved the problem with my 5770 flickering.

im glad you posted this video it was bugging me to death not being able to change the clocks without flickering

  • @immadodgeguy haha no problem nice to see it worked

  • sadly didnt fix it for me, i noticed though the flickering happens as soon as you install MSI afterburner.

its a bug with MSI afterburner.

  • @AshRNand ahh it happened to me as soon as i overclocked in catalyst stinks it wont work for you sorry :(

  • @AshRNand nope its not, I have flickering with a brand new stock HD5850 no overclocking done at all and without ever having run MSI afterburner, its the shitty design of the series

  • thanks and I can go above 775Mhz too!

  • @markonfilms very cool dude

  • @markonfilms

lol! my 5850 Toxic comes stock clocked at 775Mhz xD

  • MSI Afterburner crashes my system I i click anything, even just manually settin the fans or a simply click of reset and I have to power down :(

  • @Jealousmango Your cpu overclock may be unstable or other overclocks mabey but other than that I really cant help you out on that problem :(

  • when I try to save it in notepad im told access is denied

  • @Jealousmango Make sure your account is admin and make sure that msi afterburner is closed if those do not work copy the MSIafterburner.cfg to desktop or some where else then edit after that then copy it back to the msi afterburner directory

  • NVm my post, found a way :P

  • question, when right clicking MSIafterburner.cfg I am not given the edit option...any advice?

  • Ah thank you, this worked for e., was getting very tired of my cintiq tablet flickering like crazy if I extended desktop. This seems to have fixed it.

  • @sharkh20 hehe no prob nice to hear it worked and if you have any other problems with the flickering mabey i can help

  • Hmm I overclocked my 5750 to 800/1200 with fan running at 75% and even during load it still reachs about 46C. it raised my Crysis FPS to about a constant 25-30 FPS. During intense battles it drops to about 15. But thats my cpu fault. My CPU is the amd athlon 64x2 3600 @ 2.3. But with this overclock it raised bioshock to almost a constant 45-60 FPS. But my screen does flicker occasionally, and only sometimes do i see artifacts. Only for milliseconds, then they are gone.

  • when i overclock memory on my 4890 it starts flickering sometimes, does this work on 4890 ?

  • @eivindrew

I do not know I have never owned a 4800 series but its worth a try :)

  • @getlow1985 yeah :P

  • @eivindrew

    it worked?

  • @getlow1985 I tried to use the msi afterburner to overclock, and i have no flickering so far :D

  • @eivindrew

sweet! I love the feed back hehe

  • @getlow1985 Haha :P

  • @zurikaten

that is definitely a big problem I don't know what could be causing this blue screen of death how much are you overclocking your graphics card?

  • @getlow1985

Tried around 950 core and 1300 mem with 1250 on the voltage. Might have been to low voltage who knows?

  • @zurikaten

try 880 and like 1220 and slowly increase it by 20 or 10 and reset the voltage until you fully know what you are doing as over volting can permanently damage the gpu

  • @getlow1985

Sure i will try that out.

  • @getlow1985

Tried as you said and still had a bluescreen. Oh well they run fine at stock.

  • @zurikaten

    Ok, sorry I couldn't help.

  • @getlow1985 No worries. Thanks for actualy taking the time to try.
