  • The Perennial Philosophy

  • STARDUST: Robert DiNiro dancing in a petticoat, holding a pink fluffy fan, whilst his crew battles snobbish kingsmen. God, I love it.

    =^-^=

  • MONOCLE SMILE!!!!!!!

  • why the hell isn't Lassannn's comment a top comment anymore (9 months ago)

  • Epic monocole.

  • @TearfulShadows I agree, but Orphée was an extremely talented musician who music and performances could sooth even the most troubled souls. Thats why this song is generally happy... :)

  • Played a part of this for All-County Band. It was amazing<3

  • This one is rather easy, but : 25 people can can go to hell!

  • This really does sound entirely too cheerful for what I remember of Orpheus' trip through the underworld.

  • 666,630. Oh no!

  • Do they dance can-can in the underworld?

  • @PP1969GR It would be far more joyful than the crappy melancholic harp music played by dour souls, would it not?

  • Thought you may be interested in a trailer I found regarding a modern retelling of the Orpheus and Eurydice lovestory. Its simply called Orpheus and is on the movieextra webfest page or look up Nick Orpheus on youtube and there should be a link to take you to the trailer. I found it intruiging

  • Simply Sublime...

  • Am I the only person in the world who likes Rap, R&B, Pop and this??? ))))))))

  • @IhorM1992 no you aren't the only person. I like Hardstyle, House, Hands Up AND THIS!!!

  • @IhorM1992 nah im down for tupac and beethoven.

  • It is as good from the beginning to the famous part of the song as it is from there to the end.

  • es es la musica de la perricholi novela

  • Espectacular !

  • never understood how this song fit the tone of the Orpheus story. so to me this loony tunes music.....fits perfectly.

  • 8:00 :)

  • All for one and one for all! Remember this in Mickey d/onald and Goofy in The Three Musketeers!

  • This and a lot of other songs were in looney tunes cartoons!

  • i heard orpheus was ripped to pieces for not worshipping a god

  • @1991NEO You're absolutely right, he was. But I think that's just only one of the stories about how he met his end. I'm not sure about the rest though; these mythological figures seem to have several stories about them that don't always add up.

  • I wouldn't expect a man who married his mother and killed his father to go to the underworld to such a joyful tune.

  • @revolutionarybum0711 That's Oedipus you're thinking of. Orpheus was an amazing musician who went to the underworld to save his wife.

  • @samtheclarinetist Oh yeah... But Orpheus still lost her, went into deep mourning, and was then torn apart by nymphs.

  • clarinet solo. :\

  • this song is what my nan bangs her head to lol :)

  • Sounds like something that would fit in Kirby Air Ride for the Gamecube

  • 7:47 until 9:41 i like the most

    0:00 until 9:41 is the best !

  • @Anthraxsgaming a little extreme eh? i wouldn't say far from death metal hah. still, they are definitely some type of core. whatever you wanna call it, it's all bullshit to me. groovy break down worthless chugging along which is an instant insomnia cure for me.

  • @Anthraxsgaming no they don't who told you that! get your facts straight

  • @Anthraxsgaming you are a noob am not going to argue with you anymore

  • @Anthraxsgaming are you fucking kidding me! no they are not death core!! dying fetus are 100 percent death metal.

  • @Anthraxsgaming yes they are

  • looking forward to starting rehearsals for this in bout 3 weeks :)

  • I really want to dance at 7:30. So fantastic.

  • @SableSpike747 can you dance that fast, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..lol

  • @35777 Unfortunately not. LOL

  • this guy is underrated. at least the cartoon tv land in the past got it...

  • Starting at 8:00 - Now that brings back familiarity

  • played this for band when I was an exchange student in the U.S :D

  • C'est l'ouverture qu'il a écrite je crois en 74 ? lors de sa tournée triomphale aux usa. Offenbach a été le compositeur le plu adulé de l''Europe. Et le plus riche ! Plus que Verdi ! C'est dire :!

  • W O W

  • All classical music feels like it flows into a new song at some point, but this is a menagerie of changes. It's like he didn't know what he wanted, so it kept changing in tones until it became a magnificent mixture of melodic music. One of my favorites, by far, solely for how it opens, and how the rest feels unfitting.

  • @Goldtiger142003 This is an overture, which means that it's a sampling of the tunes that are going to be played throughout the opera. The overtures at the beginning of operas are for the musicians to warm up as well as a signal for the audience to quiet down. Like how we turn the lighting down before a show.

  • wow.

  • TOR FÜR STARBULLS ROSENHEIM!

  • I love the entire set! But I have to accept that it brings me good memories from childhood starting 7:30... ;o) (My mother really loves classical music, and I have been listening to classical since I was... since I was in the womb! Haha!) ^^

  • I love the ending what a way to finish!

  • @xxkrazyerxx Beggining also is good:)

  • with great mutton chops comes great responsibility...

  • @jonsuttelade It's not chopped It's the lighting that made it look like that. Notice half of his beard is white too.

  • 0:20 -0:40 Classic orgazmus , it's so beautiful

  • @enojehaubicausumarku

hahahaha thats the first thing I noticed about this song. Just a jolly little romp in hell

  • i personally listen to opera, classical, rock, death metal, metal, alternative, rap, banda, mariachi, jazz, bebop, tamborazo, ranchera, country, pop and all that and i'm an emo/skater/scene kid o_O talk about wierd right? well there are too many disputes in the world lt's not let music be one of them. Great piece btw :)

  • haha well this is the problem with people these days

there is no such thing as labeling one genre as real musc it's just not done. all music is it's a variation on notes and rhythmic figures. how the music is expressed and interpreted is something magnificent. Me I absolutely hated music i couldn't stand it but i started listening to classical my mind was opened.

    Me I'm a skater/scene/emo/band geek

I absolutely adore and love music. that's why one has to an open mind to it.

  • 23 people can't wait 7 minutes and 30 seconds

  • great piece of music, i'm looking for the Klaus Wunderlich version. Can anyone help?

  • 23 people can't do the can can

  • Listen to "From the underworld" by the herd to know the story.

  • I didn't know travel in the underworld is very joyful... :))

  • @ NcicHit2: Yeah, but he looked back at the last second and Eurydice was taken back down again.

  • Did Orpheus make it out? Never did know. Great piece of music.

  • Who is playing, whats the name of the orchestra?

  • 0:00 is used in the beginning in a ub iwerks cartoon called "Summertime" 1935.

  • Stupenda!

  • I'm playing flute in this for a concert! Sightreading the f**king piece is almost impossible- for a 7th grader. XD

  • 'Oo the Devil's Britney Spears? Never 'eard of 'im! But does it really matter?

    Regards HK

  • The best part 0:00 - 9:41

  • @dantreel Wanna know what my best part is? Ask your mum.

  • @alski695 insulting someone you do not know says a lot about the intelligence of a person and what will he be in life. hope you dont become a failure, son

  • @dantreel You clearly haven't asked your mum, "son" ;)

  • @alski695

    Fail comment is fail

  • @TheHunte696 another fail

  • @dantreel - Hm, if you don't like it, why listen? Curious.

  • @7:36 = epic! wow *_____*

You can't give thumbs up here, this is impossible!!!!

  • 22 deaf people are gonna get their asses kicked!

  • 550 is my fav part

  • I don't know...I kind of pictured something a little...darker...when thinking of Orpheus descending to Hades to try and bring back his lover, then almost making it but turning around to look at her just a moment too soon, and her fading away to mist... You know, a little darker than flutes and violins in such a light tone. I mean come on...the whole story is absolutely tragic. I was kind of expecting something a little more along the lines of say, The Lonely Man Theme...

  • greek mythology is fantastic. nuff said. well done Jacques.

  • the opening of this piece is recognizable to me because it's used on a cartoon called "summertime 1935 by UB Iwerks.

  • Can cans at shoprite?! ha

  • My fellow music lovers, I would dearly appreciate it, if anyone could tell me who the composer of this music is.

    /watch?v=z1DzbGhSIjY

    thank you so much!

  • @Stymfalide

I think that's Amilcare Ponchielli's "Dance of the Hours," toward the end of the piece.

  • I enjoy Classical, primarily Baroque, music just as much as I enjoy Electronica. What I find interesting is how close minded listeners are on both sides of the spectrum.

  • 8:43 XD

  • Considering that the comments are all about how kesha and britney spears suck cock, I'm glad to see that young people are able to enjoy fine music!

  • this is a lovely piece. i dont get why they would give even 1 dislike. weell... they dont know what there mising.

  • wow, at 3:59 is almost sounds like the allegro part of Poet and Peasant Overture haha! Thats awesome!

  • 8:00

  • all ke$ha is good at doing is sucking cock and using autotune for her music. bravo to this!

  • 21 dislikes???????? NOOOOOOOOOOO I LOVE classical music!!!! agreed with AgApE010

  • @alemelech C'est tre bien. You have the wine, you have the woman, this will do as a song, but surely a Degas on the wall?

  • 7:25 BEST PIECE!

  • EXCELENTE OBRA!!

  • やっとフルで聴けるの見つけた^^Thank you!

  • Our orchestra loves to play this chart. It's fun from "inside" too!

  • I have to make my ensemble sound like this! Jesus Christ we're screwed

  • I'm playing the cello solo for this with my youth orchestra in two weeks

  • great orchestration even wagner had something to learn from this

  • Ouf. À la fin, c'est assez incroyable!

  • Me encantaaaaaaaaaa!!!

    I love this masterpiece!!

  • 8:15 :D

  • I wanna dance at 7:30 "Orpheus in hades" Can Can yeah

  • There's a legend connected with this overture. When the Czechoslovak army orchestra played this piece in 1950's, the conductor would randomly choose one of the fifteen clarinetists during the performance, point at him and he had to play the solo. Nobody was sure he won't be chosen. Everybody had to learn it.

  • Grandiose Ouverture, Jacques Offenbach hat sehr schöne Werke geschrieben.

  • @stealthedscout apparently at least 55 people.

  • this song>justen bebier and all modern music

btw if your wondering why i left justin beiber in a sperate catagory, he doesnt make music he makes crap, crap that he sells on ebay to get money

  • @alemelech OUI OUI!

  • lol at this time 20 people should visit the underworld

  • DUN DUN DUN DUN dundundundundundundun DUN DUN DUN DUN dundundundundundundun

  • I would hesitate to look down my nose upon the paltry works of modern composition from an ivory tower of classical heritage when it's constructed with a song that's most well known for being "that can-can dance theme."

  • Why are there 19 Dislikes?

  • @quinndiesel1977 19 Orpheuses looked back at Eurydice?

Best I could come up with.

  • @quinndiesel1977 -- Either hangovers or blood itch heroin withdrawal....

  • @quinndiesel1977 Dont know, but now there is 20. 20 who dont like Orpheus In The Underworld. Great viola and violin.

  • @quinndiesel1977 Excuse me, I meant there are.

  • This is very good music, but why do you distort the picture? It's very distracting.

  • that is kind of a funny beard. just saw orpheus :)

  • I can imagine Orpheus playing this in the Underworld.

  • @wickedwitch222 Lets see, perfect grammar, no mistakes what-so-ever.....Hm, Either you are a genius! Or a lying weirdo.

  • Orchestra - conductor credits?

  • Lmao! Orpheus in his underpants as my dear departed father would say - Miss you Dad!

  • You see, kids, they listen to the RAP. But in all seriousness, this music has an element which largely became lost recently. It's called talent.

  • @Pelican95 actually these days it's more about electro house.

  • @Linkage1992 Thing is, I LOVE me some electro house, I also love me some breaks, drum and bass and the ridiculousness that is dubstep. Doesn't mean I can't appreciate genius like this though. <3

  • Can Can = Epic!!!

  • I like romantic and modern orchestral music. post modern tends to be a bit....strange.

  • Whoever gave this video 15 thumbs down, go back to listening to your Britney Spears album and leave the real music to those who appreciate fine music.

  • @AgApE010

    Snob.

  • @keetner
