Ive never really thought that slash had very good tone as to try to replicate it in an amp! But i do think the tone he uses is appropriate for the music he plays, raw and chuncky rock!! but the tone to me lacks balls and bass! I like wheen my tone sounds BIG! like a wall of guitar coming out of the amp! lots of mids! good amount of bass and just enough highs to get rid of any woody-ness!
low gain + good vibrato = tone. great marketing but it's not really the amp that sounds great, although it does, it's really his playing. he will sound as good pretty much no matter what he's playing through
....as much as I love the riff (and it's really the first time I've thought this) this only became what it did because Axl sang over it. Like co-dependents, I think they only sound right together - and I don't mean that as an 'oh for the days' when' statement.

The sound is called an "artificial harmonic" but the technique is called a "pinch harmonic". You can find a ton of videos to show you how to perform the technique properly.
Basically, it requires you to let the fleshy part of your thumb and pick hit the string almost simultaneously at the right place (i.e. correct distance from the fretted note) to sound an A.H. For this A.H. you can see Slash hit's the P.H. close to the edge of the neck pickup spacer on the G string.

yo odio sweet child si no hubieran echo eso no se abrian tirado para lo comercial los guns y serian una banda de rock como cualquiera pero buena como ufo o esas bandas de rock muy buenas y no se abria separado pero todo fue por algo y slash demuestra lo genio que es realmente es el jimmy page de esta epoca bueno de los 90 mejor dicho y hasta hoy sigue y dando lo mejor con su simplesa se arma un super solo o un rock muy pegadiso q de verdad la rockea

Ive never really thought that slash had very good tone as to try to replicate it in an amp! But i do think the tone he uses is appropriate for the music he plays, raw and chuncky rock!! but the tone to me lacks balls and bass! I like wheen my tone sounds BIG! like a wall of guitar coming out of the amp! lots of mids! good amount of bass and just enough highs to get rid of any woody-ness!

low gain + good vibrato = tone. great marketing but it's not really the amp that sounds great, although it does, it's really his playing. he will sound as good pretty much no matter what he's playing through

....as much as I love the riff (and it's really the first time I've thought this) this only became what it did because Axl sang over it. Like co-dependents, I think they only sound right together - and I don't mean that as an 'oh for the days' when' statement.

@Boabywankenobi what total bollocks, why even come out with that comment, it is a stand up riff, slash sang over lots of riffs but they all did not get as poular as sweet child o mine, it is one of the most popular rock riffs out their, nothing to do with slash singing over it, as I said he same over many that don't get brought up on every guitar learners top 10

@UKToneKing : Never said anything about Slash singing over any riffs? But regardless, I don't think it diminishes how good a riff it is to say that equally as important was the lyrics and voice over the top of it, as I'm sure Slash will be the first to admit.

The sound is called an "artificial harmonic" but the technique is called a "pinch harmonic". You can find a ton of videos to show you how to perform the technique properly.
Basically, it requires you to let the fleshy part of your thumb and pick hit the string almost simultaneously at the right place (i.e. correct distance from the fretted note) to sound an A.H. For this A.H. you can see Slash hit's the P.H. close to the edge of the neck pickup spacer on the G string.
