In the beginning, I think they may have shared the corral and spring. Irvin had his own cabin which was just before the lower gate toward the canyon. When I was up there 20 years ago with Dave Hopkins, who was Irvin's brother-in-law, he showed me the place where they used to sleep as all that was left of that cabin was the floor. I think hunters and barn wood collectors have probably burned all that is left of that cabin. I would not be surprised if that cabin was visible in these photos.
Thanks Pete, I have done what I could to preserve the buildings and the memory. I am still pestering the Forest Service with the idea of preserving Buckhorn some way. I established a register there trying to mitigate the vandalism.
Buckhorn Cabin was shared between the V Bar V Ranch
and the M Diamond Ranch. The M Diamond ran then and runs now, the Buckhorn Allotment.
