@jamiejujamie Hmmn It seems to be going up here where Im at I got 2 last weekend and am going out right now. I only troll deep for big females in Nov. Hey good fishin to ya!
thats very true. I'm intrigued about the dvd but like you I also do not want to pay lol.. I'm thinking "how to catch giant northern pike" is the dvd title, similar to if you search for a movie title, you see the trailer, not the actual movie..
@ElBote54 its an ad for the dvd, I don't get why people repeatedly say that 10# will do, it will catch the fish but why take the chance? That pike is going to hit your lure whether you use 60# or 6# if you're in the right spot using the right presentation. the difference is not tiring the fish to the point of capture myopathy and actually having that resource available to catch again.
a 750lb black marlin was landed on 6 lb test (world record). you cant tell me you cant catch a 20 lb pike on the same line! step your game up. I landed a 20" 6lb large mouth (huge belly male) out of my farm pond on a "STRIKE KING, MINI KING" spinner bait on my "SHAKESPEAR ultra-light rod/reel combo tryn ta catch a bunch of bluegill for a fish fry!!

I would never tell anyone that a 20lb pike couldn't be caught on 6lb test. I've done it hundreds of times. I've caught more than 3000 pike over 40 inches. As a guide my job is to make sure my guest lands that big fish. Proper boat control plays a key role. proper angling techinques, etc etc. are also important. There is likely about 2% of the time you need the heavy line, I prefer to have it when it is needed. I've caught a dozen pike over 50 inches and feel better with 50lb line.
@mowmow8888 I have never told anyone you need 50lb to catch pike. Especially if you know how to play the fish. Once you have caught 3 or 4000 trophy size pike and witnessed all the reasons people do lose their trophy you will likely change your mind. I've had hundreds of people tell me the same thing until they have lost the fish of a lifetime. There 100s of reasons to use heavier line. One of which is not hurting the fish. The DVD explains this and a thousand other things
Congratulations, welcome to the club. probably about 43 inches.
Many people fish their whole lives and don't catch one that big. The information in this video will definitely help anyone become a better angler and specifially a better pike angler. This video is considered THE encyclopedia of pike fishing and the video to which all others are measured.
@Gabbittt Their are less than a dozen people that have caught a fish that big.
The pike at the start of the clip was 55 inches. It could have been caught on 10lb. Actually if memory serves me it was on 17lb. There are hundreds of reasons for using heavier line. They are just a few of the things explained in the video.

all you do is et a rapala perch bait make sure ther floaters and get the big ones and troll in 12 feet of water or in 12 feet in a weed bad and start catincg those fish'
@taylorhulme12 Thanks for your comments. I have had many people say it is EASY to catch a big pike. I often say "go out and catch another one". I've had many many more explain how DIFFICULT it is. My job is to catch big pike everyday. This DVD explains how to become a better more successful and more complete pike angler. Consistantly catching big pike involves much much more than trolling in a weedbed in 12 feet of water. I hope you get a chance to view it.
how strong of line do u suggest to use for catching good sized northern pike?...better yet wut line specifically do u recomend(brand, color, and weight)? ...im newer to pike fishing, heard its alot of fun
@cxcljohn Thanks for your comment. Yes absolutely we started catch and release in 1978 before anyone had ever heard of the concept. we continues teaching it on our tv series thru the 80s and 90s.
