@Arkantos117 It's possibly Jaime and Robert's fault: Robert kept Jaime in the KG and thanks to Jaime's reputation none of the guys who really deserved to be in the KG would want to serve with him. Barristan didn't want him around either but was already a KG so he stuck to it.

I'm pretty sure it was Jaime and Cersei who wanted him to stay on as a KG (to keep close to Cersei, and since KG are celibate no one would suspect a relationship).

@ShadowSonic2 Jaime was put int he KG by Aerys the Mad in order to piss off Tywin Lannister (which backfired on King Aerys spectacularly). I would have thought that Jaime would rather have been let go after he offed Aerys, but Robert kept him around because of his abilities.
