Barsova was Georgi Pavlovich Vinogradov's teacher when in his prime in the 1940s. He recorded at least two songs with her. She may possibly be responsible for the perfect technique of his later recordings up to 1951.
I find her voice delightful in timbre, and her whole manner as charming and endearing as one may want. She is a tinzy bit flat in a couple of notes, and I don't like the fortissimo at the end but, at 55, she was still a beautiful singer. The cantabile phrases are gorgeous! Adorable singer.
0:49 is quite good, and 3:27 to 3:32 really, really reminds me of a lighter Callas, that kind of onset and brassy brightness, squillo in the most true sense of the word. A voice of gold.
This was really stunning! It certainly makes one of the strongest cases for this singer. I would certainly think her a very young girl by the character she fills her voice with. Do you have any other recordings from Snegurochka? It's hands down my second favorite opera, after Mussorgsky's Boris.

There is "NO ONE" on the operatic stage today who can match this.

I love this opera, too. There are two great recordings: Fedoseyev's and Svetlanov's with Vishnevskaya and Arkhipova.

The Svetlanov has Vera Firsova as the Snow Maiden.
There is a delightful performance in French, conducted by Charles Bruck, with Janine Micheau, Solange Michel and Rita Gorr.
