look it up on wikipedia, The name VR6 comes from a combination of V engine (German: V-Motor) and the German word "Reihenmotor" (straight engine). The combination of the two can be roughly translated as "inline V6 engine".

its a vw 24v 2.8l narrow angle v 6.

Use's a single cylinder head for 2 banks of cylinder.Not an inline 6,just a very narrow angle v(6degrees)

the only thing really remotely 'v' about it is the staggering of cylinders, that make it shorter than a traditional i6 but a bit longer than a traditional v6 but its still on an inline 6 crank.

for some reason though VW, probably to eliminate bs, or the fact that the term v6 is more common place with 'people' than i6, they call the vr6, just v6 in europe

it has nothing to do with seeing a vr6, just look at a vw service manual, the firing order is 1,5,3,6,4,2, just like a straight six...it may be a 15 degree "v6" but it has more characteristics of a straight six.
