I would advise getting some real nice metal tweezers, because I have never had those plastic ones work. You can find some nice ones at wal mart around the cosmetics. Or a surplus store. You should be able to get them fairly cheap there. Anyway nice video
I advise reading your first aid book, several times, and becoming fully familiar with it. In an emergency situation, you don't want to be learning this stuff for the first time.
Know that the experation date on meds is more marketing. The military(The military research project, Shelf Life Extension Program (SLEP)) did a study that showed most drugs can last over 9 years at full potency when propperly stored. Check out survivalmedicine episode #13.
@ryanjcus medication (pills, non gel or liquid) is usually good up to two years PAST the expiration date. I like your idea of buying a store bought kit and adding to it since that's usually what I do for my kits. I do agree with some past comments that metal tweezers would be better because they would be more precise than the wide plastic tweezers shown in this video. Overall, great kit and awesome video =)
once again, great video and great ideas... as a paramedic i might suggest swapping out ur tape and tweezers... ur gonna want something wider and something that will stay put-i suggest self adherent tape wrap (walgreens $5) that could also replace ur ace bandage too...and tweezers, ur gonna need metal... if your gonna be suturing, or removing ticks or splinters with them, u gotta be able to sterilize them. keep a mini bic in this kit just for that..keep up the great vids...hope this helps
Good kit! My firstaid is also the deeper half of my hygene kit. I think u should add a J sewing needle and floss. Moleskin, put tape on tounge depressor, scrap ace badage for turnicate, pills, smaller tweezers saftypins deet foot powder vasoline cottonballs
do u keep a tourniquit in ur kit im not sure if that is the right spelling but you know wat i mean, i think the firts item u showed is mostly like one am i right?
I like your videos. Your kits seem very well thought through and I enjoy watching them, trying to see if I agree with your choices. Kudos for putting them up for comments.
If you want to keep the suture-set I suggest you add a needle holder, as suturing without it is VERY difficult. In addition it might be wise to try it once or twice at home. On some rubber or other suitable material.
When it comes to medication in a kit, remember that most meds have an expiredate, usually a year or two.
First time viewer... great medic kit...compact size and alot of needed items- I didn't have a quick clot myself so nice job there.
One thing I would HIGHLY recommend, and yet never see much of on YT is adding samples of antibiotics and/or meds for any chronic conditions someone in the family may have. A quick clot will hopefully stop the bleeding but what will you do in a week when an infection goes systemic? In a shtf situation where you are actually gonna use that kit you gotta have it.
I'd get rid of the Quick clot and pick up Celox. While they both do the same you will not need to worry about getting a 2nd degree burn from the Quick clot.
If only Ireland had a second amendment My Dad is only allowed a hunting rifle and he had to wait 8 months pay 1000 euro and had to get a back round check why cant Ireland have the right to bear arms >:-(
Nice complete kit. Just one sugestion if your open to it; Liquid Stiches (or super glue). Seriously think it may have saved my friends life when he cut his head open on a rock when we were caming a few years back. Thanks
Great vid! That's a lot of useful stuff in a small package. One additional handy thing to have would be a a few tampons. Troops in Iraq carry them because they can save your life when shoved into a gunshot wound. I'm sure it would work on stab/puncture wounds too.
Do you know the nsn numbers for those field dressings? I only seem to find vietnam era ones with broken paper packaging, those look like they might stay sterile from the plastic. I have israeli dressings, but there too big to fit in a smaller first aid kit.
Keep the vids comen
...hate how when you reply to someones post it lists it at the top
i picked up my quick clot from a gun show that came threw town. the package cost me about 8$. im a combat life saver with he army and in training it seemed to be a worthy thing to have in your kit. the science behind it seemed pretty solid. i would recommend every kit to carry quick clot.
I prefer metal tweezers, as they can be sterilized with flame. Might want a firestarter of some kind in there, too, even if redundant to one in your general supplies. Nice selection, and a handy pouch! =^[.]^=
Sorry I forgot, this is not a criticism in any way, just a suggestion but you may want to add a disposable razor to the kit for cleaning hair around a cut so the bandage adheres better.
Just what I expect from you Ryan, another really good video. I'll have to look into the suture kit you have. Glad your making videos again. Keep'm coming.
One thing I would add is a small bottle of Purification by Young Living. It can be applied to bug/spider bites. Immediately applied, you won't have a spot on your skin.
Purification also helps to stop bleeding and promoted very quick healing of the wound. It is an oil, so you can carry a very small amount with great results.
I got the pouch main street (where all the little shops are) Hyannis in Cape Cod Mass. I forget the name of the store, but it was a military surplus store.
Great Vid Ryan. Again, I'm glad you're still doin' vids. You're vids are always very ver informative and bookoo competent. In short, you give outstanding and relatively comprehensive advice. I appreciate it. take care of yourself!

dont forget some good painkillers if you can get your hands on them (percocet, hydrocodine, etc)
Even if its not your own prescription, if you know your not allergic then it would be wise to keep a few in your medi-kit just in case.
Also, if you got some anti-biotics like amoxicillin or penicillin thats a must have item as well.

Your pouch is made by Condor it is called an EMT pouch. In case someone is looking for one just like it.

I like the bag you use for your kit, but sadly I cant find it anywhere online..
Also, excellent video. Very descriptive and useful. You should start building those particular kits and sell them.. I would buy!

quik clots can clot your blood and the clot can travel through your blood stream and cause harm.

Yes, buts its better than bleeding out and dying right there. Its just suppose to give you enough time to get it professionaly treated.

I think the green larger one is Sweedish. Dated from 1985. The only number reads: M7800-101010-9.
The smaller cylindrical one is made recently by Lily White Sales Co., Inc in Greenwich CT. 6510-00-200-6204 Lot No. 681
A-2 / 74-S
Hopefully this helps. Thanks Man

How much is quick clot? Also, is it very reliable to stop bleeding in case you get shot?
zcm007attack 2 years ago
About $10 for a 25g and $15 for 50g. Never been shot, but it was originally developed for military to help with gunshots.

You could add some salt for dehydratation, and some sugar in case of hypoglycemia to give you energy.
