you don't need to soak wood in a big container nor you need to steam it, just spray the surface with some water and slowly start to bend make sure you dont put alot of pressure on the wood let the fibers open and you'll feel it turn into something like spring then shape it. hope it helps! cheers
You can buy a bending Iron from any good luthier supplier and as for the molds, I make all of my own so that I can change or adjust the shape as I feel.
Hi Sam, Thanks for the comments. When bending, especially rosewoods you don't seem to need that much water but its all feel really, you know what I mean.
Hi Eric thanks for the comments. I've tried using a steam iron but have found that patience is the best thing for bending sides on a good bending iron. Maple sides are difficult, if it takes all day it takes all day.
Do you used distilled/de-ironised water? I was told to always use that but not sure how necessary it is.

Any tips on begining as novice to the trade? How much would you risk on making your first guitar? Dollar value on material as a starter.

Just wondering if you ever tried to bend cherry wood this way? If you have I'd like to hear your opinion.

Hi Jeffery,
It's always best to bend on the side bender or in a fox machine, this way you can control spring back and thus side tension.
