I wonder if it would have been possible to induce the Japanese to surrender by inviting their representatives to view nuclear testing in America so that they would be deterred and surrender before the bomb actually had to be used against Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Truman had no choice with the A bomb. However the Pacific war was precipitated by western colonialism . True German scientists discovered nuclear fission first in the late 30's however by the end of the war many of the brightest of German scientists had fled or had been killed in allied bombing. Are you saying that Tokyo tried to surrender two months prior to the bombs being dropped? That would be news to me unless of course they were insisting on the stipulation that the emperor remain in power.

Using PoW's as slave labor, planning on using them as hostages, medical experiments, the maltreatment and execution of PoW's. They were offered a chance to surrender, they declined, we acted to save over a million US and allied casualties, not to mention the Japanese casualties that would have resulted in an invasion.

Had Truman not used the bomb to break their will, 100,000 American casualty's would have been the cost of taking japan by force. I am an American man. I know that Japan certainly had to be militarily defeated, and I commend Truman for compassionately urging the Japanese to surrender in order to avoid continued devastation. I wonder if it would have been possible to induce the Japanese to surrender by inviting their representatives to view nuclear testing in America so that they would be deterred and surrender before the bomb actually had to be used against Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I hope that it will never be needed again

I wish that America had been able to induce Japan to surrender without so many civilian casualties. In any event, my heart goes out in prayers for all Japanese affected by yesterday's catastrophies

He split his army, which was far superior to Houston's into three and left the smallest portion with him. He was captured @San Jacinto and told to sign a surrender or die. He was a coward, so he signed.
However, Texas was Mexico's, not Santa Ana's. He had no right to give it away.

Truman had no choice with the A bomb. However the Pacific war was precipitated by western colonialism . At first many of the islands were happy to see the back of the Dutch , British etc. If the Japs had not treated the "Liberated people" so badly they might have done a better job . Bombing Pearl Harbour was a bit dumb tho , like kicking a Grizzly bear in the nuts. It can`t end well , can it ?
