lol about the altitude thing....noticed it too. Block altitudes in a warning area can be confusing. Nice explanation of FAR 1.1 He was legal. I'm a flight instructor and also live and fly in the middle of an MOA in western IL. It's all a blast and I miss the F-16 unit I served with back in the 90's. Awsome video!!!! Miss that sound!!!! I'm a civilian pilot but would've loved to have flown one of those
how the hell did u get to have control of a F16 falcon... i would love any info u can give me on this as it is also a dream of mine to fly in one of these or a F/A 18 hornet
@elmo1059 The clearance guarantees that Air Traffic Control will keep all traffic out of that block of airspace. Anything outside that area ATC cannot guarantee to keep traffic out of the area and the pilot has the responsibility to maintain visual seperation from any traffic. This took place in Warning Area 147 D in the gulf coast about 30 miles off shore.
A warning area is airspace of defined dimensions, extending from 3 nautical miles outward from the coast of the United States, that contains activity that may be hazardous to nonparticipating aircraft. The purpose of such warning areas is to warn nonparticipating pilots of the potential danger. A warning area may be located over domestic or international waters or both.
@elmo1059 This Bitching Betty Altitude call was something the pilot programed into the computer to warn him when he descends below that altitude to he can maintain visual seperation.
@elmo1059 The pilot inputs minimum and maximum altitudes into the flight computer. When the aircraft falls below the minimum or above the max altitude the computer send out the 'alarm' to get the pilots attention so he/she may correct their altitude. If you watch the HUD early on in the flight in the bottom center after recieving cleared altitudes from ATC you can see the information inputed into the computer from the pilot.
Interesting that nobody commented on the the fact that his clearance was the block FL180 to 5000.. yet at 2:21 he is at 2760ft... and at 3:41 he comments that he is only cleared to 5000... hmmm something to think about... I wonder if and incident report was filed
Every tax paying american should be able to have one free ride in a military aircraft. I think its great the men and women who are in the armed service get incentive rides but asshole celebs or tv anchors shouldnt be the only people who experience what a fighter jet can do. remember us tax payers buy these things!
Hello Aflak, let me congratulate you for that flight you did. Since I was a kid and nowadays the F-16 has been my favorite fighter airplane. For unknown reasons I couldn't join in Venezuelan Air Force so I became in civilian pilot what I love to death.
My cousin is becoming in a Fighter Pilot here and she did her incentive ride also in a F-16B and like you, she took the control resisting a 8.8G turn easily.
I respect you a lot for what you do and as we know AVIATION IS LIFE!
It says your "Incentive ride". And I heard the pilot say he has taking a few people up. How did you get to go for a Ride in this? I actually live 3 miles away from Elington and flown out of there many times. Was this when the Air National Guard was still based there?
@benjamincory The Air National Guard is still here, however they "the 147th" are now out of the F-16 Business. This was filmed in Jan 2008. They awared about 20 servicemembers incentive rides as an award for outstanding performance.
That was absolutely amazing. I'm jealous to an extent, but I dunno if I could handle nine Gs... Hell, probably not even five, lawl. You took it like a champ.
Awesome pilot, and an awesome video. 5/5 across the board.
The pilot sets the bingo fuel level based on mission requirements, if you watch the hud closely you will actually see him put it in. It is basically a reminder of current fuel state at certain points in the mission!
As many have said....thank you so much for sharing that awesome ride you had in the viper. I'm jealous, but you deserved it and glad you got to get your ride of a lifetime! (now lets see if I get some footage in our local L-39 ably next year!)
The pilot can set BINGO Reminders. You can actually see him punch them in at the bottom using the ICP "integrated Control Panel directly below the HUD"
He sets those as a reminder to check fuel levels becuase he knows the amount of fuel required to RTB safely.
These are always programmed in well in advanced based on mission requirements.
Back in the early 70's as an Air Force enlisted man I was lucky enough to get a ride in a T-38. Since then I have sky dived...sailed the pacific....scuba dive with sharks ect. I'm almost 60 now and I tell ya.... that ride in the T-38 is still the coolest thing I've ever done. Great video.
I worked at GD and every year there was a bond drive. The winner would get a fully loaded Siverado PU the second prize was a ride in an F 16. The guy that won the PU always bitched that he was really second. What aride.
LOL Well a fully loaded PU is what 30 grand and a one hour ride in an f-16 costs about 8-10 grand in fuel. However money cant buy the experience of G's and Speed So I totally See the arguement!
The 147th fighter wing no longer exists. They converted to the MQ-1 Predator. The 138th Fighter wing out of Tulsa now does the alert mission with a small detachment stationed at Ellington.
Hey aflack, thanks for the vid. Its really cool the way you combined all the HUD information with the camera footage. Great video:-) And well done with the 9 G´s
I work just down the street from ellington and the f-16's are still there, just saw 2 today loaded with weapons. I even saw f-4's a couple of weeks ago if you can believe that!!!
those f-16's belong to oklahoma. We do still have the alert mission but there is no longer a squadron based there. I know becuase I still work there and I was one of the lucky ones!
you kick ass dude. You've done what many of us do in flight sim lol. Now you get to say you flew both the flight sim F-16 and the real thing. Awesome!
I honestly do not know. I have heard conflicting reports. I know that we do have pilots who fly with glasses but those are often pilots who have been flying with the AF for many years. I think that to fly fighters you have to have 20/20 but cargo/refuelers dont have to. However dont quote me because I am not a flight surgon.
Not to be a buzz kill....but I vividly remember in my childhood asking a Navy recruiter in the mall, after watching Top Gun movie, ( I'm old) if you need perfect vision to "join" and fly and he responded yes you do. You need perfect vision to join and my understanding is if your eyesight get worse you can wear glasses. I could be wrong. I would imagine that covers air force and army too?
The primary difference is the feel of the aircraft which can never be recreated on the ground.
The Stick hardly moves at all and works primairly off of pressure hince why I was bouncing so much becuase I couldnt quite get the feel of the stick!
You feel EVERYTHING!!!!!! Its not like flying in a cessna or commercial airliner. Any movement of the aircraft either sucks you into the seat or pushes you out of it!
Other than that The Accuracy of the aircraft and systems are dead on!
As an Air Force/USMC brat to an Air Force man, all I can really say is
"GET SOME, SIR!"
\m/
I've always been an aircraft nut, and the Viper's one of the best. I grew up watching that "Iron Eagle" movie with Louis Gossett Jr., and it was hilarious how the film producers tried to pass off Israeli Mirages as MiG-23s XD. Didn't matter to the Viper, though, naturally.
Thank you for sharing that with us. You have just motivated me even more. I felt like I was right there. In about a year in a half I am going to apply for a flight contract and hope to be in that seat in the near future. Again, Thank you!!!!
congrats on the flight. i don't think anyone can knock you for flying, being it was your first time actually controling the viper. I am curious though, how comfortable where you in the cockpit. being your entire body was covered, and the only exposed part was your neck, where you hot in the cockpit?
There is plenty of Air Conditioning inside as a matter of fact my nuts were freezing! LOL The Vent is right next to that area!
I really didnt find myself being uncomfortable except during High-G Manuvers and during that time I would sweat like crazy. Several times I had to take off my mask and wipe my face of all the sweat!
Well mate those vids were great!!!! I've always wanted to go up in something like that but here in Australia we don't have F-16's what I want to fly in is the F-111 a bit bigger and I think a bit faster as well, but anyways thanks for sharing wonderful experience I thouroughly enjoyed it!! Maybe one day I might get my Triple 1 flight. Oh and your mission was accomplished I smiled all the way through!! :D
Awesome dude, congrats on your flight! Nothing like it thats for sure! I do allot of flying on the computer, Microsoft flight sim just to get the edge off. Im an x-navy guy myself but you gotta love the viper. I fly it about 90% of the time on flight sim. You should check it out, you may like it if you like to fly. Any questions just let me know!
