  • John: "I don't think it's the new Great Gatsby."

John, two lines later: "I wanted to call it one of the alternate titles for The Great Gatsby."

Excuse me if I don't understand, but, what?

  • I lost my copy of Paper Towns. I can't find it anywhere. :(

  • waitwaitwaitwait Paper towns movie???

    WHERE IS THE WORSHIP BUTTON!

  • This book made my life. The hilarity and thoughtfulness are brought out so beautifully and uniquely that I can honestly say I've never read anything like it. It sucked me in and forcefully kept me from doing homework. My friend borrowed it, and she finished it at about 2 a.m. this morning, laughing out loud at Ben's bladder control issues. In return I'm reading her copy of The Hunger Games.

  • I JUST started paper towns, as in I'm only 5% through it (according to my brand new kindle!)

    :D

  • i just started reading paper towns yesterday in the barber shop. lets just say that i got weird looks when the black santa collection came up

  • My dad has a massive collection of Santas! Like, 125 friggin' St. Nicks. I two of them are black. One also happens to be Gay Black Football Santa. So yeah. This video made me think of that. Which now seems kinda pointless...yeah...

  • HELP PLEASE! My sister wants to read some books and asked me for suggestions so I was wondering if I should get her paper towns for christmas but she's 27 and her genre in books vary and the language she reads is very mateur. recommend it or not?

  • @Music4ever248 I just finished it today. I'm 20 but couldn't imagine anyone finding this book immature. Not only is it a great read and wonderfully written but it will be on your mind long after. At least I'm sure it will with me.

  • I forced my dad to read this book, and he thinks it's AMAZING!!!!

In the words of Comic Book Guy:

    Best. Book. Ever!

  • I'm on page like 220 and it's my favorite book! (sorry i also noticed i and wrecking 1,111 comments)

  • Why is it that everytime I read this book it takes me months to read it even though its one of the best books ever written in the whole freaking universe?

  • Walt Whitman indeed IS hot.

  • I love your book John green:)) and I went to Ur presentation when u went to lawrence north.! I also fell in love with Q, thanks for that-.- please make it into a movie!!!!!!!

  • "I don't think we have anything in common except that we're both tall... and vaguely nerdy." Uh-huh. And what about when Quentin flattens his puffy hair? Didn't think anyone would catch that, did you?

  • john, did you actually pee in a bluefin bottle?

  • Paper Towns is my favorite book!

  • OH. I was just thinking about what books I should buy with my Borders gift card. I think Paper Towns is a good idea.

  • Just finished reading it and it's the best book EVER!

  • It's horrible! I've only read Looking for Alaska and Abundance of Katherines but I HAVENT READ PAPER TOWNS! I can't find a copy anywhere!! And trust me, if I do, I'm NOT leaving until I own it. Oh, and Will Grayson, Will Grayson. But paper towns first.

  • @4LiveLifeWithLove4 The UK Book Depository with free shipping :-)

  • @BenGriffithsReviews

Haha thanks, but I'm in the middle of talking my mom into letting me order it form Amazon... I really need that book!

  • @4LiveLifeWithLove4 Oh well that wasn't an option for me because Amazon doesn't ship to Australia, but anyway, you'll enjoy Paper Towns.

  • found a sticky note in my brand-new copy of this book today that read "DFTBA". Nerdfighters are obviously quite comfortable in Barnes & Noble.

  • Could you get paper towns on iBooks for i-holy-fuck-there's-a-lot-of-i-stuff???

  • Th use of Black Santas in Paper Towns reminded me that I have a Bubble Blowing Black Santa at home, this December I'm finding it, giving it bubble solution and filming it, for you.

Unless we got rid of it a few years ago, but that's moderately unlikely...

  • BEST BOOK EVAR

  • Dangit, so it's been 2 years, I assume theres no movie..*sigh* :-/

  • I got Paper Towns and Will Grayson, Will Grayson today.. I need help Nerdfighters!! Which one do I read first?!

  • I bought Paper Towns yesterday... I only have 84 pages left. But I guess when I finish that I can then start on An Abundance of Katherines! :)

  • Why is Nerdfighteria an archipelago?

  • You And q both Have puffy Hair

  • i Love this Book! its Awesome

  • John forgot about a similarity between him and Q: They both have puffy hair (as does Colin in An Abundance of Katherines.)

  • One of the most amazing books ever. I love the superglue beer sword. So much symbolism...

  • I just finished reading Paper Towns about five minutes ago. It was great! It was a very different experience for me than reading any other book, because I felt like I knew the author. I can't wait to read the rest of your books!

  • my new favorite book! it gave me so much to think about and joy while reading it and I couldn't get enough of it. Paper towns kicked Looking for Alaska off the top of my favorite books and made it #2 :)

so any news about the movie? all news are quite old and i'd like to know if there's any progress going on

  • i loved that book so much!!! i read it realy fast (in under 10 hours) even at school, i didnt get told to put it down at all, even in lessons, so you may have a few under cover nerdfighter teachers! anyway, this is the best book i have ever read :3

  • WRITE YOUR SCREENPLAY FASTER! I WANNA SEE THE AWESOMETASTICNESS THAT WILL INEVITABLY [spelt wrong] BE AMAZING. PLEASE!

  • I just read Paper Towns in twelve hours. This is the first time I have completed a book in under a week. To anyone who hasn't read this book yet, there is a reason for this

  • I'm German. And I have never heard the word "Spiegelman" (or the would-be German version "Spiegelmann" = mirror man). x)

John, if you should ever read this: Where did you get that term from?

  • @HalbleeresGlas ich glaube er hat das nur wörtlich übersetzt, weil Spiegelmann habe ich auch noch nirgendswo gehört ;)

  • I just bought a copy of Paper Towns and on page 163 i found a note that said DFTBA!

  • Page 230 ish and climbing. Great book, but I question the BLATENT similaities between Paper Towns and Looking for Alaska. They are both about a high school level guy who falls in love with a wild, beautiful, intelligent girl who then gets taken from him. Along side his two guy friends and one girl friend, he uses bits and pieces of the stuff she left behind to uncover the truth of her disappearance, and in doing so uncovers who this girl really was. Greats books though, both of them.

  • Why?

  • I'm 11 and I think it's the best book written EVAR

  • My paper towns cover has a map with a pin in it!

  • I really loved Paper Towns. It's probably my favorite out of all of John Green's books. There's so much buzzing in my head that I want to talk about! This book made me think, and think A LOT. If anyone else wants to spew what they think of Paper Towns and how it made them think, I'd love to hear it over at my blog. I wrote a post all about it and how it relates to the theme of balance. I want to discuss with you, fellow nerdfighters!!

    youngmelonworld over at blogspot.

  • yeah I knew it. Spiegelman is a German name. yay this makes me so happy as the fact I read the book. I love it.

  • Finished Paper Towns yesterday instead of studying.

Fuckin' worth it, this book is incredible

  • the book is awesome! =)

  • I just finished it, I loved it John you are amazing.

  • @markisonlin3 *happily agreeing*

  • John, you're silly. You & Q both love the Mountain Goats. That's two whole things in common.

  • This video makes me feel really stupid because I read Paper Towns and I didn't read that deeply into ANYTHING in the book...

  • Im reading Gatsby right now and Paper Towns is much, much better

  • John, thank you for writing papertowns it's my favourite book. Quentin Jacobsen is my edward cullen. DFTBA.

  • If the screenplay gets accepted and the trailer gets released, I will jump out of my chair from excitement when I see it!

  • Dear John Green If you make paper Towns a movie I would very much so like to act in it I do not want to be Margo due to the fact that i simply don't think I could pull her of but I am an actress and acting in a book you have written would be amazing. My best wishes for the screenplay DFTBA.

  • >w<

  • moooovvviiieeeee pleeassseeeeeee

  • There is someone in my neighborhood with the name Joseph Joseph. Pretty cool to know Joseph Joseph.

  • I'm so glad you chose the title to be Papertowns! It really is the best choice!

  • I must say Paper Towns is a pretty good book, not the best but pretty good.

  • This was made on my birthday! Awesome! Now I DEFINITELLY have to read this book!

  • okay, love you john

  • LOL 3:06 to 3:11

  • OMG dead poet reference.

  • I just finished reading the book recently and really liked it, the only thing I didn't like about it was that Margo and Alaska (from looking for Alaska) seem to be very Very similar girls... like almost identical.

    and also, Juno was good?

  • I finally read Paper Towns - and I was blown away. Then I lent it to my grandmother and she adored it, and then she lent it to her partner, and he loved it, and now my dad's godfather is reading it and was stuck to the couch with the papers making that lovely crinkly sound in his silent reverie. Bravo, John. I wish I could imagine the world like you do - but then, as I suppose Q might point out to me, I imagine the world the way I imagine myself, and that's okay. Still - bravo.

  • OH MY GOODNESS!!! John had a grammar mess up!

  • if you press 8 repeatedly it sounds like john is saying wookie

  • Still waiting for hardback of Paper towns, already longer than 3 months! >:(

At least I've read it already

  • I think the cover where she isnt smiling seems far more interesting - what does that say about me?

  • When I read Paper Towns this summer I laughed every time "the world's largest collection of black Santas" came up.

Like, audibly. And in public places.

  • @Annalovesautumn Me too! While I was reading it, I'm sure I was considered crazy by my classmates XD

  • I want to act in that movie pls!!! :)

  • in the middle of it just boughtit on my nook and i rlly love it like i find myself laughing at it cuz your funny and its funny and wow this comment sucks haha

  • just finished it. WOO!

  • I LOVED THAT BOOK WITH A FIREY PASSION OF A THOUSAND SUNS!!!!!!!

  • I just recently read paper towns, I greatly enjoyed it, now I much read more John Green books... i'm ok with this though

  • the girls on the covers look very similar to the girl on SGU

  • Is it just me or does someone else see the girly magazine (possibly Seventeen although I could be wrong) framed on top of the bookshelf?

  • "I don't think anything in my novel is completely random."

"Was Ben's beer sword represent some kind of inner conflict?"

"Ok maybe SOME things were random."

  • Is it just me or is there some sort of girly magazine framed on top of the bookself?

  • relatedly I'm 22 and I just read the book!

  • Spiegelman is read Shpeeglemahn

  • SECRET BETWEEN WOMEN AND MEN

Bonk the "unattainable" in a way that we all read. Instead, or poems or songs by experience.

When selecting a spouse, whatsoever people are sub-identity (id) brings to the anterior, and unisexual quality'll watch too. Muscular embody, curvilinear hips, dogmatical hips, eternal legs, etc..

  • I just got Paper Towns and this is the first time I have put it down in three days!

  • I'm a pioneer!

  • John green is so good that when I was reading this book, I got nothing done and no sleep. I couldNOT put it down.

  • i was suppose to be finished in cold blood for my english lit class but instead i decided to read paper towns because in cold blood was driving me insane. i'm so glad i did. paper towns is an amazing book and is definitely one of my favourite books that i have ever read. the only thing is, i still haven't finished in cold blood.

oh well. it was worth it.

  • Got the book two days ago. Just finished it. One word: Fantastic.

  • I WANT THE BOOK SOOO BADLY, I MIGHT JUST CRY IF I CANT READ IT SOON. :(

  • Oh no *avoids comments with spoilers* I got the book today, must. not. find. out. what. happens!!!!

  • John, I have a movie I would like you to watch that I think you would greatly enjoy (though there is a good chance that you have seen it already). It's called Dead Poets Society. It's about a group of boys at a private school in the late 80s and features an English teacher who makes many references to some authors you have mentioned before. In addition to being made of awesome, I have found it to be very clever and well done as far as plot among other things. Let me know what you think.

    Abby, TX

  • that book should be a movie! i finished it a few minutes ago and i Loved IT!

  • So...a few years ago at our school, there was a special boys' choir, and for one song, they needed someone to dress up as Santa. We got a black Santa. He was awesome.

  • are the books the same

  • Is that an honest to god framed seventeen magazine in the background? Great Scott, it is!!!

  • I was in a Maths lecture the other day, and there was a quote from a Walt Whitman poem! I almost yelled, but I didn't. Still exciting. I should probably also mention that this Maths lecture was on a a Saturday morning. I was not forced into this, I chose to go. No wonder everyone thinks I'm strange...DFTBA.

  • I write all the time based on personal experiences...and friends, too.

  • I just finished reading Paper Towns and I loved it so, so much. You, sir, never FTBA!

  • If you had named your book anything other than Paper Towns, I don't think I would have read it, and then I wouldn't be a Nerdfighter right now. Oo

  • I'm writing a paper based on the dangerous idea of humankind misimagining each other.... your book provided me with some inspiration in my time of need. Thanks John!!!

  • heres an idea. those of you who agree thumbs up this comment.

if paper towns gets made into a movie it should have a cast made up entirely of nerdfighters

  • I was reading Justin Cronin's "The Passage" and told myself that I would not, under any circumstances, check out any other book before I finished that one. Tonakai15 and I were in our school library l when we came across two of your books; "Paper Towns" and "An Abundance of Katherines" and were so excited that we decided to each check one out. I have not finished reading it yet, but returned it so that I could buy it for myself. I loved it so far and look forward to reading more of your books.

  • @Asheill By the way, youtube needs to allow us to type more at once. I had to delete so much from that comment that it pained me to take out even one word praising your awesomeness. Rock on, Nerdfighters (I totally just added that word to my computer's dictionary...how dare it not recognize it?)!

  • I'm writing an essay on 'The Crucible' and we have to compare it to something else, I've decided to compare it to 'Paper Towns'! =] Ask me not "Why?" For the answer will be "Why not?" =] Awesome book!! My favourite by far!

  • One of my favorite books, I love how you write your female characters, I lovveed Margo. I wish I were like her. You should name your next famle character after me and make her as bad ass as Alaska, and smart as Margo. Just a thought. Btw my name is Daphne. Just sayin'. Can't wait till you make another super cool, awsome book.

  • John when I wanted to purchase your book, Paper Towns, i scoured my local book store and could not find your book, then i went to a book store in a city quite a drive away from my home. I could not find it. Frusterated, i asked someone who worked at the book store to help me. They directd me to the teen section. John, i was so convinced that your books were for all ags, i didnt even consider the teen section. Well, just thought i'd share that story,

  • pApER ToWn iS a gooD bOoK !

  • I just finished Paper Towns and I imagined your voice narating it X)

  • PLEASE Write the screenplay!! This would be so fucking AWESOME!!!

  • i have a major crush on Radar,

  • it all just *blows my mind* i hear angels singing

  • @LemmeEatYoFace I like that you have a really long, formal looking letter and then nearly shat myself with surprise that your name is 'LemmeEatYoFace.'

  • I just read the book!!!! It was really good!!

  • Papar Towns has probably been the best book I've read in a long time. But, being the Beatles fan that I am, I have to point out that on page 236 of the paperback edition, the song is "Good Morning, Good Morning", not just "Good Morning". But that's just me being nitpicky. Great job, and PLEASE MAKE PAPER TOWNS INTO A MOVIE!!!!!

  • Paper Towns made me cry because I found myself so closely relating to Margo and how nobody knew who she really was and everybody thought she was a different person and she had to go along with that cherade until she couldn't take it anymore. Your books have so much meaning, I love them so much. By the way, I read your books in reverse order (newest to oldest, and I don't care if that's improper grammar right now). You are a HUUUGE inspiration for me as a writer!!!!! ANK TOU!

  • MOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIEMOVIE etc...

  • Other thoughts on this video.. Paper towns is the most profound and meaningful book i hav ever read -3

  • Speaking of profound disservoce you just compared margo to that disgusting twilight fairy boy. I am ashamed. Have more pride!!!

  • What was exhibit B?

  • I ordered it. But it still hasn't be delivered. Also, I have no idea what the Dutch cover looks like. So, yippeh, a surprise! But I do have "het grote misschien" (which is the Dutch translation of looking for Alaska).

  • I finished Paper Towns today and I have to say that it is absolutely awesome! It has to be the best book that I've read in a loooooong time. Truly amazing John!!

  • that's it....i'm going to borders and, since i'm cheap, i'm going to read it there and then return it to its shelf whilst wishing i had the money to buy it.

  • I have the paper back!

  • never in my life have I laughed so hard when I had read how Ben got the nickname "Bloody Ben" n_n

sorry...I had just finished the book and felt like expressing my pure happiness :D

  • Today I was on amazon, and I saw this little box calles "Express Checkout with PayPhrase". I clicked the "What's this?" button to more, and the example was Weekday Warrior. It made me really happy.

  • I'm glad you called it paper towns it's a good title

  • edward cullen-izing, alaska-izing, margo-izing! oh, John Green, I love you :P

  • Is there a movie for Looking for Alaska? LOOKING FOR ALASKA!!

  • @flyingbeagles not yet. Last I knew it's still in development.

  • Hey John (or Hank who ever reads this) when is paper towns coming out in cinemas if it is already out WHY IS IT NOT OUT IN ENGLAND if it isn't out yet WHEN IS IT OUT VampStirker10 X

  • I don't understand why i had to buy Paper Towns from the 9-12 section of Waterstones...9-12's wouldn't understand the levels surely???

  • Real questions by real nerdfighters...

compared to fake questions by fake nerdfighters LOL

    nerdfighters :P

  • So I've decided I want to read the book, but now I need to decide between the ebook version and the dead-tree version. Why, when I buy a book, don't I get an ebook copy free with it?

  • Looking for Alaska and Paper Towns are my favorite books :)

  • It's so fun to see you do the finger-mustache for no good reason now.

  • im glad you called it paper towns

  • so i have a paper towns tattoo. oh yeah... i am that awesome

  • so even though there are two different book covers, theres no difference between each?

  • Now I really want to know what exhibit B was going to be (pun intended)!

  • I have always imagined you as Q when reading the book. I tried not to, but it was hard to do so. HAHA

    Paper Towns is amazing. :)

  • me too!

    haha!

  • paper towns' different color covers are the same story, right? cause one book has a happy girl, and one has a sad girl.

  • Paper Towns- which I have, coincidentally, read 5 times and is my favorite book, is on the list or my schools reading team (which is a competition between several schools). I plan on being the school's Expert on the Subject.

...and plan on reading it at least 5 more times. Unlike many books, it doesn't matter how many times I read it, I still love it.

Also, I've gotten into the habit of adjusting wikipedia articles.

I know now why Radar loved it so much.

  • More Light Than Heat... IN YOUR PANTS!

    xD

  • I just finished reading Paper Towns about half an hour ago (having just read the last half of the book in one go) and it is truly phenomenal. Whilst the ending is almost an inevitable conclusion by the time you reach the beginning of part three, somehow it still surprises. The symbolism in the burying of the black notebook - *inspired*.

Just ordered Looking for Alaska and An Abundance of Katherines, and looking forward to them arriving!

    Awesome, John. Just awesome.

  • You're so freaking awesome. I mean, seriously, WOW.

  • Is there a reason that the "O" on the cover of both novels is colored? I know Margo has longer hair at first but then she cuts it by the time Q finds her in Agloe, so why are the covers of the book so inaccurate? She looks like a beautiful Margo to me.

  • Listen; "..whether or not it's good enough to be made into a movie." There's hope; Twilight was made into a movie.

    ^^

  • How difficult do you think it is to get published? I'm young and I would love to write. I've got about half a book written and I would like to know.

  • Dear John Green,

If you make Paper Towns into a movie, I will eternally love you. You're already my favorite author because of this book, and now knowing that the movie rights are in the hands of the people who made Juno, a great, nay, TERRIFIC and well thought out movie, you must make this movie. I feel I can trust them to make it not suck. In fact, this movie shall DECREASE world suck by at least 54.7%. Especially since you are in charge of the screenplay.

    I love you! DFTBA!

    - Julie :)

  • John, why is there a Seventeen magazine on top of your bookshelf?

  • On the contrary, you and Q do have something similar other than being tall and nerd-like. You both have puffy hair. (:

  • I LOVED PAPER TOWNS! IT WAS AMAZING, I recommend it to anyone.

  • You pointed to the sidebar! Bravo!

  • Thank YOU for being so awesome, John. And for writing such an awesome book.

    Well, books.

  • I bought Paper Towns right after it came out and it is my all time favorite book (that's right, all time).

  • i'm working on my book report for paper towns as we speak. this is so helpful...... its insane. haha john, seriously, adopt me

  • awesome! I am (seriously) in the middle of writing a book report on it!

  • i just bought it yesterday night and im on page 150. this is the rist book that i liked reading haha struggling through adhd and dyslexia causes me to fail english, not do summer reading, and never read books...i love this book though?

  • it's kinda his thing, think if he talked slowly, this would take about 10 minutes.

  • where did you come up with the name margo?

  • Can I get this book at borders?

  • try looking on their website its at barnes and noble if not

  • finished reading it last night.

it was such a good book :D

  • Im 13. am i too young to read paper towns? cause i really want to~ im a big nerdfighter~

  • Personally, I don't think you're ever too young to read a book; I didn't find anything in Paper Towns that I considered to be majorly inappropriate, but that's all up to you.

Hope this helps you make a decision :).

  • you should totally read the book. it's amazing. i'm 12, and i read it. :D

  • awesome, thank you!

  • No problem!

    :)

  • Haha, pshh, no.

I'm 13, too, and I finished it a bit ago.

    It was amazing.

  • haha thanks! ill read it as soon as i can~

  • omg. I'm in Love with paper Towns. margo is Awesome. and So is Q.
