Probably the loveliest arrangement of 'Waly Waly' as an instrumental I have heard. I am Scottish born, and this was a favourite of my father ever since we emigrated to New Zealand. Beautifully played, and brings back memories. Thank you!
The City Limits is nothing short of stunning. I love the bottom end projection. I play many arrangements in drop D tuning. What amp/effects do you use?
this is my 1st archtop and i've really enjoyed it....your feedback mean a lot sir....i appreciate your kind comments. I using an AER amp with a little bit of reverb. I go back and forth between round and flat wound strings....which do you use?
So Sweet! One question...Do you use finger picks or just your nails? I am just starting to explore finger picking, but I tend to like using my fingers rather than finger picks.
i use fingernails......i lucky that they don't break easily. Glad to hear you are getting into fingerstyle playing! Let me know if i can help in any way!
Very beautiful Dale! I am going to be posting this one myself here soon. I enjoyed your version very much and I actually figured out something cool to do with my version by watching you! Thanks for posting!
i don't know....most likely because it is a great traditional song. James Taylor has what i think is a great cover of it. Sure aprepciate you watching,
Dale, one of my all time favorite songs and you have captured the beauty in it. I fell in love with this song when I first heard it sung by Steve Goodman. His arrangement of the song is equally beautiful.
I just got an archtop, well actually I guess you know that, but I keep hearing this song as an old gospel great, which I've no idea if that's true.
Anyway: I've been playing it quite a bit since I heard you and love playing this. It's nearly the perfect chord-solo tune. It lends itself to everything, incredible solo substitutions and modulations, and is driving me nuts (well, more nuts).
it is a great melody isn't it.......i've heard gospel tunes use the melody line with a different lyric and works nicey for my ear. Man your Eastman is so cool and in your hands......oh my!
hello and thanks so much for your very kind words and always having words that mean so very much! Have you seen Collings new site yet? it is redone and very nice.......hope your OM is doing great......your bro,
Wonderful job, sir! I also enjoy playing this one but you really have a grasp of the melody and where it should "breathe" and where it should follow the tempo. Kudos and 5 stars!
Just to clarify my last message a little - I meant, you can't get a better sound from better playing because your playing is so good. Any tonal adjustments would be a slightly different tone, but still a reallyl good one.
I don't necessarily think you can improve, Dale. Your touch is impeccable, so you can't really improve from a playing standpoint - a lot of people could, though. I think any changes would only be a different sound, but still incredible. A step to the side, if you will, instead of an improvement, or step forward. Hope that makes sense...
i appreciate your comments........it is so good to get feedback from other players and i sure appreciate your time to listen and comment.....means a lot!!
No prob! I could tell it sounded different - a tad more pronounced in the mids, but that was obviously just the perception I was getting through the camera of the bass being turned down a smidge. Still have the Mangans on it?
hello Mat, sure appreciate you watching my friend! The amp and settings were mostly the same, a bit less bass on the amp tone, round wound 12's on the guitar. Hope this finds you well sir!
This is one of the best arrangements of this beautiful tune. I love Ed Gerhard's compositions and arrangements very much, he's a real master of tone. And YOU made this such an pleasure to listen to, you're a great picker and person - a really musician with lots of influences ans styles. (and sooo beautiful guitars - I could get jealous)
what more can I say, Dale? a BEAUTIFUL piece of music performed flawlessly! absolutely loved it! bravo! the chord changes/progressions are wonderful. ty so much!
