alex ur the best ..... ur explanation is dammmm awesome .... i love u dude... when i started learning 3d max i taut it was impossible to learn it ... but u made it possible for me ... thanks alot dudeeeee ..... i wish i could learn more n more form u... please some more and this time for a building .... :):)
Sorry but I can't imagine people going to a 3D university and not knowing this. I assume that if you have any interests in 3D that you atleast know the very basics cause you do stuff like this at home before thinking about going to school to make your job of it.
Thank you so much. Was trying to apply a silicon wafer texture to a cylinder and could not get the texture on the face of the cylinder (only the sides). This made it very easy to get the texture lined up exactly the way I wanted it.
Got ma 3d model ready but not sure where to start from, I want to apply texture, normal map, opacity, specular and diffuse map, can any one please tell me what should be applied first? does normal comes first or the texturing n other maps?, I have finished unwrapping my model.
I have one question and if you can do it for me I will be very grateful to you forever. Kindly Can you do UVW unwrap to a chamfer box and add texture. It need not to be a full tutorial you may want to include in one of your tutorial as a closing subject. And pliz let me if you take it up....thanks in advance.
Great set of tutorials, I do have a question. I am having an issue with a structure I have designed. The structure is large so I have it broken up into parts. However when I mapped textures onto the second part the texture map which is brick comes out at a different size. Ive used the same photoshop settings how would I resolve this ?

my textures on the actual model are blury, but show sharp on the render window?? any help mate would be good otherwise this 50 min of time i have spent watching this texturing tutorial is a waste. I do not want blury textures K!
@JustAnOrdinarySimmer I'm not sure if this will help, and by now (2 months later) you've probably solved this.
Go to:
Customize,
Preferences, then go to the tab "Viewports".
Then go to "configure driver" down the bottom and change the "Background texture size" and "Download texture size" to 1024 and tick the boxes below each one.
Press ok, then hopefully your unrendered model should appear in high res.
@xWeMakeVidsx Ok, I heard that if I see blury textures', but put the models' into an engine (Flight Simulator for me) it will then show to the proper res? is this true?
When I zoom right in on my model, I then click render and it as sharp as glass, is this how it will display in my engine (FS)? but obviously to Flight Sim maximum limits.
Hey this is awsome !!! Thanks alot Alex i want more stuffs like this:) Cause i really want to learn 3D max, Photoshop, After Effects and the other ones:) Thanks man!! I did my Spooky house it's almost the same:P
Oh my god, seriously i want to hug you! XD. I just created my first textured object!! (a Christian object from Jerusalem though i'm not christian) ^_^'
Well this was pretty long and the result isnt that good. Just why do you actually teach people who dont know how to do this in this - such a hard way, Unwrap is used for like difficult shapes like human face or weapons, but not such easy primitives like house (box). It would be much easier if you would simply find a texture select polygons, add the texture, or simply use the UVW mapping.... But good tutorial though, but as I said, really the hard way for this primitive...
why teach someone a minimalistic concept for simpler things? If you learn techniques for complex methods, you can apply them to more indepth studies. If you teach someone the bare minimum, theyre stuck there knowing very little.
UVW gives you a lot more control as opposed to using prcedurals, as procedural materials can comprise of many levels of sub materials just to get the kind of control you can get with a UVW map.
I seriously loved this tutorial! I've been looking for MONTHS after a good tutorial on basic UVW unwrapping and how to actually do it and this was perfect :D
SO EASY!! THANKS MAN!!! it helped me alot!!!!! Youre the Best ;)

thing is, because you made the shadow on top of an other layer, you will erase the things inside the layer also
always put your shadows in a seperate layer
