Cannot really do anything truly meaningful about the homeless. A large percentage have damaged their brains through drug/alcohol abuse, they are now incapable and/or unwilling to quit. The other group that makes up a large percentage of the homeless is the mentally ill. Some of these people refuse treatment and cannot or will not take medication on a regular schedule. Rulings at both the federal and state levels make it very hard to involuntarily commit someone, for more than a few days.
homeless people sleeping in the middle of sidewalks should not be validated with a video. Yeah, we're aware of it, we have to walk over them every day. Toronto has plenty of programs designed to help these people. They lay where people are walking in order to get sympathy and spare change. It should not be encouraged.
@dianna88 really then u dont know what its like to be living on the streets then. those programs are sometimes too far to walk to or we ( yes im including myself here im homeless too and using the internet from a library ) are disabled or pregnant and cannot walk too far. u try being homeless for a week and then u will be sincerely sorry for even posting that.
@babygurl1422 I am NOT sorry for posting that. Toronto has many shelters and soup kitchens in the downtown core which are within walking distance of most places. What do you expect? meals brought to you?... my main point being the homeless should NOT be sleeping the middle of the sidewalk.
I am curious to know what your intentions are with this video? Kudos to you for taking the time and creating this. Which does help create awareness but what about the deeper meaning? I see homeless people every day...all day. I know they're there. What I want to know is what brought them there? What has held them back in society? Drugs? Alcohol? Abuse? I would like to hear some interviews with the people. They are people after all. They have voices too and I think they need to be heard.
So very sad that in today's age there are still homeless and poverty stricken people and family's. If you encounter any of these people buy them a lunch/dinner/coffee they need it more than you or just show them that there are still some good people out there. Peace.
It is not a pleasant experience, not at all! Cold, hungry and unwashed is not a good feeling. Even worse is the hopelessness of future, of the purpose of life...no, oh no...
And i believe most of the US homeless people do not wish or choose to live this way.
Maybe they just need a little help to help themselves.
Please, Please, consider a share-a-home concept or support the 10 year plan to end homelessness.
I wish there was a way to get this going in more cities. I live in Los Angeles, and there are so many homeless men, women, children, and pets. Even worse, there seems to be no empathy. I got yelled at in Union Station when I gave change to one of them. Seriously, if you got something going, I would love to help out here.
Tears agsin fill my eyes....I live in a small city outside in the lower mainland of British Columbia - due to our demography we have a lot of homeless - they live along the river that runs through town - the residents of my city - shamefull - no sense of community - the city is always going and throwing them out and destroying what little they have...what have we become.....
Mark - This project is really great! Thanks for doing it. I run a blog, and am working on a book, about creative engagement with global housing crises and would love to interview you about this project. Email me if you are interested and I can give you more info. about what I am doing. Brett
The government should just gather allll of them up and send them to a island with endless food and water.

That is a very good video. Even without music, the footage speaks volumes. Loved it!

this is amazing.
Some of the shots of the signs are too short to read though.
Are the signs still up? How long did they last?
