This is the closest I've found to the Original 8.12 Version, GREAT POST! 1978! Hamilton Bohanon ruled in New York! South African Man, Foot Stompin' Music, I had this 12" on the Mercury label, definitely a basement party classic! Although this was disco, you heard this in the parks and at block parties.
Takes me back to the 70s and high school. He had a dsifferent sound from the rest of the disco/funk at the time. I had nearly every album. There's three tunes I've lost over the years that I really miss. "I Found My Love On A Saturday, I'll Be There For You & The Time Is Now. If You got please and please again post them and make some of us old school Bo- heads happy!.
Oh my lord, the drunken parties my parents used to have in our wood panel walled basement with the red shag wall to wall carpet and a bar full of booze. Always ALWAYS a Soul Train Line...that's the only time they would let us kids come downstairs...
@1GirlieGirl sounds fantastic. I went to a party not to long agao and the folks holding it were so into the 70's I had to check outside twice to make sure I hadn't Sam Tyler'd it. Fecking magic party. They had all the tunes I asked for. &0's kicked ass. For the first time I felt I was at one of those parties I could only watch from the top of the stairs. :)
Mr Bohannon knew how to build a beat and find the right singer to soar above it. And whatever instrument it is that sounds like an agro funk wah guitar (maybe a guitar?) gives me chills.
i always thought that i didn't like disco. i was so wrong.
