  • ritchies tone was better live in the 70,s he should have used the same setup

  • the perfect band!!

  • Richie's solo is a real mess here! They played Highway Star too fast in the 80s!

  • Jon Lord is the LORD

  • Gillan sucks. No wonder, Blackmore can't stand him...

  • @frankie28web

Oh boy. Gillan does not suck, and Blackmore can't stand himself.

  • Ian had nodules on his vocal chords but didn't want them removed (think it can affect voice.) Later he found out he had inflamed, enlarged tonsils & had a tonsillectomy (don't know when). Have heard him live since 1985 and good voice.

  • DEEP PURPLE, LED ZEPPELIN, BLACK SABBATH ustedes son los inmortales del rock

  • @21jonax Ian Gillan was ill during that concert. It happens....It's not his fault

  • @Purplesnake41 seems like hes always "ill" . My opinion is that Ian sucks live, always has. He was a studio singer in the early days, and for me since live has always been horrible, probley only a few version of highway star he hasen't messed up. Hes always forgetting lyrics, out of time, running out of breath ect. But! I woulden't wanna see DP with anyone else.

  • nothing like the original.

  • What to say. When u put together, Ritchie Blackmore, one of the best guitar player in the world, Paice, one of the best drummer, Glover, good bass player, and Jon LORD, 100% the best rock-hammond organ player in the world, we can only say OMG :D BEST BAND !!!!!!!

    i love him

  • Ian Gillan's one of the greatest rock singers of all time. However, vocally this might not have been the best song to start off the night with.

  • My opinion: Deep purple sucked with glenn hughes and david coverdale

and Deep purple sucks without blackmore

    he's have to return :(

  • @RubenVW95 Sorry mate but you couldnt be more WRONG!!!. You are right about Glenn Hughes and Coverdale but Steve Morse has totally saved this band. He is a legend!! Just listen to Deep purples albums from 1996 onward.

  • @MrSteveMorse

Well I like every Deep Purple line up. The songs with Ceverdale and Hughes were as great as all new songs or Mk II songs.

    Drums-Ian Paice

    Organ-Jon Lord

  • who is the drumer?

  • @caitliancute Ian Paice

  • have dvd of this video ?

  • have dvd of this video

  • BLACKMORE > GOD

  • RITCHIE BLACKMORE IS THE MASTER

  • I just want to say to all the people slating Blackmore - Give the man a break and let him play guitar!

Blackmore is possibly the best player of a Stratocaster (second perhaps to Jimi Hendrix) and was a legend in Deep Purple, Rainbow and Blackmore's Night.

Without Ritchie/Blackers/God half the rock bands of today's generation wouldn't have even surfaced.

  • Gillian sure can`t sing anymore.

  • @oberfour give the man a break he is well in his 60's and has been singing all his life & his screaming and lack of proper vocal tecnique has been hard on his vocal chords.. i'm surprised he is still singing at all, he should retire soon i agree but you have to understand where he's been..

  • Deep Purple Mk II had the best chemistry on stage of any hard rock band I have ever seen. Too bad they don't have the same chemistry off stage. I was lucky enough to see DP at the Texas Jam in 1985...25 years later and I'm still blown away. Blackmore might be a pain in the ass, but he's still one of the best musicians to ever pick up a Strat. I wish he would go back to what he does best. HARD ROCK!!!

  • Totally agree with your comments. You certainly were priveliged to see MK2 in full flight. I was only 10 when they played Knebworth at their only UK show on the PS Tour so going wasn't really an option for me. I'm a fan of the band's career as a whole but the studio/live chemistry of MK2 was something special. I did eventually see them live in '96 and '98 (Morse/Lord lineup). Yeah Blackmore is wasted in B Night imo, would be great to see him back in hard rock (in some form or another).

  • @DCHurlford1 My God they were great! I also liked Mk III. "Burn" was a fantastic album. But there's just something about Mk II. Maybe it's because the very first album I ever bought was "Made In Japan". My older brother turned me on to Deep Purple and at a very early age and I've been a fan ever since. I don't play guitar much like Blackmore. I'm a little closer to Jimmy Page in tone and style. But no doubt Blackmore was a huge influence on my own taste.

  • one of the best guitar player in the rock history...RITCHIE BLACKMORE

  • @epikuroarq For me ..... THE BEST!

  • @epikuroarq

    Blackmore or Iommi ? ^^

  • @gringojames

Com on, do not compare this two guys. this is totaly diferent musician.

  • @epikuroarq More like THE best. I think Hendrix sucks compared to Blackmore. Nobody before or since will or would sound as good as Blackmore.

God gave up guitar when he heard Blackmore.

  • @epikuroarq Why can''t rock music sound like this now??????

  • @epikuroarq the best, you dont need "one of"

  • Check out my version of Highway Star. I also play the organ solo on guitar!!!

  • Amazing performance again!

Some people thinking that Ritchie Blackmore is mediocre guitarist. They played 26 years on guitar and so one...

26 years waste of time.... If they said bullshit like these...

Go, listen and "play" your crazy and stupid jazz and left the other people to listen rock music - simple, energizing and lovely music for listening!

To be good guitarist is not enough to can play complicated scales and etc.

The good things are the simple things. Like Smoke on the water!

  • I am a classical guitar player and you right, I`lI agree what you say,its not the complication of scales to play ,its the purity of the music to impress from the heard of the player to the instrument to let became the instrument like a human voice, because the human voice is the purest instrument he can perform, but musicinstruments are artifitial and never beats the human voice.

  • Jazz ain't stupid music!

  • Wild & crazy, just how I like it. Full on! Noboday does it better than DP.

  • @zgolijan thatswhatshesaid.

  • I have never really understood this concept that musicians feel they are the best people to judge the quality of music. For me they're the last people who should be doing it. Technical difficulty becomes something important, when it should really be at the bottom of any sensible person's priorities. As Blackmore once said himself, "you have to take the audience along with you"....

  • well RB never stick to the basics specially Live! that makes a genius guitar player.....he easlily gets bored with the same stuff i guess, that's an opinion.....peace and let's just rock!

  • Oh great, another e-thug.

  • pass the weed man!!

  • リッチーのギターってやっぱすごい!

  • But it were Hughes and Bolin who took drugs!

  • don't blame Gillan, specially that on that concert he has problem with his voice,so he's given his best, read the band biography ;) and then talk ;)

  • It's been a well known fact, as far MKII, DP were never a drug band. Of course that changed when Coverdale and Bolin arrived.

  • Musiikillinen suunta on tällä hetkellä oikea

  • Man what a great bassist! totally underrated.

I dock points from Gillian for his silliness at 3:53 though. We all do that, but not into the microphone DURING A SHOW .... XD

  • idk, I think it kinda adds to it a little bit... almost as if he was playing with someone else..although Gillans voice sucked the whole performance.

  • well duh! .. its one of his trademarks, guitar and vocals mimmicking each other is what Gillan & Blackmore made a speciality of ..

Go listen to this track on "Made in Japan" from 1972, he does exactly the same thing and on the end of "strange kind of woman" ... its what hes famous for.

  • best guitarrist!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow Gillan... I'm kinda disappointed.

  • what planet is ritchie from anyway...? freakin' unreal for today's standards...and it was 20 plus years ago too!!

  • that's today's standards if you listen to popular music... then there's people more underground like Jeff Loomis.

  • HELL YEAH!!!

  • I Saw this show on U.S tour.. This was the best show I have eva seen. R.B. was choreograghed on the back screen. Unreal.. Loudest show I ever saw too.

  • Is it that so Gobbler6 ? I'm thinking 'the man' has made waaay more moolah at his craft then you.

  • Sure, but that doesn't change the facts about technique.. You don't have to be good to make money contrary to popular belief. I could name dozens of examples of crappy guitarists worth millions. Listen to some true technicians on the instrument before you go around preaching how 'amazing' RB is.. That is just ignorance.

  • Ignorance? Thats silly, I have played for 26 years, and I can actually play. I am actually an authority on technique compared to anyone thinking somehow what RB is doing is remotely difficult in today's era of guitar playing. Perhaps 40 years ago it was impressive. As for Page. Well it is personal preference whether you like RB or JP better. I would say they are technically equal. I like Zep better, so I am biased. To me good technique is like Allan Holdworth, or Daniel Gottardo.

  • These guys need to listen to "race with the devil on spanish highway" by Al Dimeola eh Gobbler! LOL

  • LOL, well I am not sure they would realize how much more technique it takes to play that. See these guys aren't guitar players, they are fans. They don't understand guitar, thats why they think RB is so AMAZING.. You know it is one thing to simply enjoy Deep Purple, or like his style of guitar playing. That doesn't make him this 'amazing' player in terms of difficulty or technical accomplishment. Listen to Doyle Dykes, or Albert Lee, or Birelli Lagrene. They are true masters.

  • Yeah, one of my favorite players as far as phrasing goes is Les dudek, there's some great stuff on the "Say no more" album like "what's it gonna be" or 'Old judge jones". By the way click on my handle and check out the song "hold on tight" my band mate Joe wrote it and is playing the lead, I think you'll like it! Peace

  • that´s the point man. Music is not technique and has to be diffcult! Who´s interested in those difficult scales without any feeling ?? WOW - how difficult...

Blackmore is not the best technical player, but he is way better than you ever can imagine! Also playing in different scales very often - and always completely different! Don´t refer on those 3 live vids of him you know!

And... he doesn´t play, he feels music. And this is way ahead of those jazz guys...

  • Heh, well you are obviously not a musician to say that. You are right. Music is about music. But to say that this is more difficult to play, or that jazz or classical lacks emotion is also your opinion. But it is a fact that to play jazz takes more skills than to play this style of rock. Not an opinion. I am a player, not just a fan so I know how many hours of practice it takes to be able to play over changes. By the way, I love rock players too, but it is not about difficulty.

  • gobbler, not sure what you're talking about. Scales are linear. It is a fact. If you spend hours learning jazz scales, you will be able to play jazz scales, just in the same way as if you spend hours learning neo-classical modes and scales, you will be able to play neo-classical modes and scales. To say one is more difficult to the other and say one scale is somehow harder than the other when all are linear.

  • There is no such thing as a jazz scale. In Jazz you use Harmonic minor, or whole tone, or major/minor pentatonic, or chromatic, or melodic minor, or-or or.. Likewise in rock you can use those scales the idea that there are 'jazz scales' and rock scales is simply incorrect. The difference lies in the knowledge necessary to apply them. Rock music is simple. It revolves around 1 tonal center mostly. That means the key stays the same. Thats why so many people can play it.

  • I understand about harmonic minors, modes, phrygia etc, but I was grossly over generalizing, especially as i figured you didn't really understand what you were talking about. I understand about key changes and in fact, the band I am in work around regular key change intervals which provide a completely different sound. A bit fusion'y if you could call it that. I don't see the need for insults. You remind me of some of the guys at my uni who look down their nose at others.

  • I can't believe there are people arguing with a musician like if they could teach you!! Whatever...

Man, in my opinion (it's just an opinion but i'm trying to answer your question), the thing about Ritchie is he was innovative in the genre, he helped developing the rock guitar playing, and influenced all the next rock and metal generations. And his music is easy to learn, is cool and is didactic to beginner and intermediate guitar players...

  • Of course rock is a simpler genre than jazz, classical, even blues. Thats why great part of people listens and plays it. It's the genre that makes most people feel they are part of it!! So their idols are rock guitarists, and nobody can stand when an idol is being trampled. Somehow i'm talking about me, I play for 5 yrs, self-taught. Everything I learnt was from the greatest rock and blues guitarists. I'd love to play jazz but i cant learn how it works just by playing songs :(

  • Exactly. You know it almost takes a prodigy musician to be able to play jazz by ear. You really have to be schooled to a degree, or simply immersed in it to be able to improvise over chord changes. There are few things in music more difficult than 'chord soloing'. You really need to know your inversions and have a solid background in harmony. Not like playing single notes from 1 box penatatonic in 1 key--which is rock guitar in a nutshell.

  • Once i tried Jeff Beck, i needed the tab. Lol. For Django Reinhardt, i don't understand how he puts those "wrong" notes in solos and sound well, same for Joe Pass chord solos, this guy is really great. For classical music, Bach, pure genius. I noticed in jazz they play over chords changing that vary amongst maj7, m7, 7, dim, aug. But there are m6add9#/5- and alikes, it's really hard to have ear/brain to know the sound/shapes of all chords, and to where the key changed.. And improvising? geez! xD

  • Django.. That guy is insane. One of the most important players of the 20th century no doubt and he died like 50 years ago. People can be fans and intellectualize about how great this guy is or that guy. But to us real guitarists it is just silly conjecture. When people start to tell me 'how it is' regarding the state of guitar or music in general who doesn't know shit from shinola I become peeved. It is just silly. I would never argue with a carpenter about how to build a house..

  • HAHA, run with the ball kid. "difficult scales without any feeling" What the hell is that? Who are you talking about? Me? How do you know how good I am? Oh yeah--because he is Ritchie Blackmore.. Hehe you don't play in different 'scales' by the way you guitarist mastermind... Ahead of these jazz guys.. IN what? Jazz? HAHA I just sent this link to my guitarist.

  • What is so great about Blackmore? I have played professionally as a session player for 15 years. I have played guitar for 26-27. What am I missing? His technique is awful, and so is his boring phrasing. From that era there are so many superior players. Frampton, Gilmour, Page (Page wrote good songs), and of course Van Halen.. But I am only referring to rock players. Guitar has a vast playing field. What about Allan Holdsworth, or John Macglaughlin? To me Blackmore is just hype..

  • If Blackmore is just hype for you - nice for you...

Blackmore did live solo improvisations which other guitarists wouldn´t be able to work out in 3 week studio work...

Other guitarists play music - he does live´s it! Others only have a kind of technique. Ritchie is ahead of everyone and there will never be one like him!

  • Well, you obviously don't play guitar if you think his solos are that complex. I have 0 doubt, I could figure out anything by him, and play it within 10 mins just like him. Its rock, not bebop. Rock has 1 tonal center generally. It is very easy to improvise over as a result because you don't have any intellectual components working like as in jazz. 1 scale fits all..

  • Deep Purple's live-show was like free form Jazz. It was only improvisation.

They played no Jazz.Blackmore played blues and pentatonics. That is as difficult as Jazz.

  • You are obviously not a musician. Jazz is FAR more difficult to improvise over. What Blackmore improvises over is simple. It stays in 1 tonal center. Jazz shifts constantly, makin knowledge of scales, and chord theory essential. Blackmore is a simple rock player. If you want to hear incredible improv, listen to Allan Holdsworth, or Birelli Lagrene. Blackmore would have to play for 200 more years to be half as good as those guys.

  • Rock shifts constanly, making knowlege of scales and chord theory essential, too.

But we won't discuss this anymore. Everyone of us has his own opinion.

  • No it doesn't. You are obviously not a musician to make ignorants statements like that. It is NOT a matter of opinion anymore than the theory of gravity. Rock/blues are 2 of western musics most simple forms. Often rock songs only require 1 scale pattern for the entire song. The blues pentatonic. In jazz you have to know the chords you are playing over, and all the relative scales. The center CONSTANTLY shifts. That is unless you are playing Kenny G music or something.

  • I gave you the offer to end the discussion in a peacefully way. But you don't end it and now you call me ignorant. I won't say anymore. For me this discussion is finished!

  • Frampton, Gilmour, and *cough* Page??? Page and Plant wrote GREAT songs, but Page couldn't touch Blackmore, and somewhere I have an article with a quote with Page himself admitting that

! Good Lord, I don't care if you came out of the womb with a Strat in hand... Blackmore's success and speaks for itself. Saying his technique is awful shows your bias and probable ignorance. I'm sure there are better players, but your criticism is way off base. Blackmore rules!

  • I think there aren't any guitarists better than Blackmore.

I think there are some guitarists who are up with blackmore.

You can't get faster or technical better than those guitarists.

Blackmore is one of the best guitarists ever!!!!!

  • Send me that article, i would like to see it...

  • Blackmore is one of the best guitarists ever!

His improvisation skills are unreached. His phrasing is really good, too.

  • I'M A HIGHWAY STAAAAAAAAR! Rocknroll....

  • Deep Purple = Most underrated rock band ever! They're not even in the ROcknroll hall of fame, although LedZep and Black Sabbath are!!?!?!?!? What the hell?

  • The july 30th arrive to my house a Fender Stratocaster Ritchie Blackmore!!!

and I can feel the feeling and the power of him riffs, everything it's so amazing!

uuuh! she's a killer machine, she's got everything!

  • Blackmore is the Almighty of his style of guitar.

    Case closed !

  • ok blackmore, JP, angus young, tonni iommi, randy rhoads, hendrix are all equally old school rock legends..regardless..they are just kings together.they all have passion in their music, they put their souls into it unlike many many others that just play from their finger tips out. !,,! TO THE KINGS!!!

  • Wonderful moment!! Blackmore is anthologic and giant.

  • i am a blues fan... but a like rock too

my favorite guitar is the TEXAS TORNADO Stevie Ray Vaughan but i discover Blackmore and... for sure in the rock music World Blackmore is the best ... the king.... J Page is a joke compared to Blackmore.... Jeff Beck is good to but Blackmore is the king !!!!

  • sir i must respectfully disagree with you. i love blackmore but paige i liked pages sound more. very random musicality.but goes with zepp always on improv. i love zepp. and deep purple. ian paice is a goddamn rudimental king. right under bonham. respectfully.

  • hey come on,you can't say stuff like that about j.paige, you just took a dump on man. i love blackmore to,but i didn't,under no circumstances, underrated JP like that.if you'd no more you would know that jimmy with zepp is one of the revolucionar guitarist, without him and zepp, there wouldn't be modern music... i dont want to insult you,but what you just said was words of typical douche posers on youtube

  • hey relax man !! its true for a Page Fan its a insult ! i am sorry !

but in total respect of you, i think that Blackmore is the best !! i like Led zep too but .......... for me Blackmore is a real revelation !! ... i will listen many album of Led zep and after a will compared but for now.... i dont see in what Page is so incredeble !

    total respect !

  • well,it's just...i couldn't answer this question about those two not in a million years.DP is first priority on my list, but things about paige i heard from many good guitarist that are in their range..another proof is,if you listen to music of dream theatar which is the most fucked up group of virtuoses in nowdays you'd see that they took a cover of lots of LZ & DP songs, and that's telling a lott about bouth of bands, and that they are just different, not better one of each other, that was my point
