  • Post-ironic Beardcore (or PiBxC for short) describes a genre of hard/metal/math/etc. -core music whose practitioners choose to openly wear often extreme facial hair in a genuine manner despite the proliferation of facial hair as some form of “ironic” rebellion among the world’s youth community in the late 00’s.

The most notable true-blue PiBxC band is Canada’s Protest the Hero; although bands such as Thrice, Coheed and Cambria, Alexisonfire, Silverstein, The Dear Hunter, Valient Thorr , The...

  • its Post-ironic beardcore and its fucking amaizing :P

  • yay bass solo at 1:05

  • holy shit, you two must be Tool fans huh....

  • @shtassfu

    Lol tool.

  • If I'm ignorant for suggesting that even at the level it exists now, it has a purpose, then all musicologists should hang up their hats and resign. But of course, the existence of musicologists, as well as people who are willing to argue genres suggests that your view of me is a projection. As it's the creation of endless, overlapping sub-genres that we are arguing about, my point proves itself through their existence, so stop arguing Ad Hominem and try to present a single logical point.

  • @PickUpYourLighters

And I said your ignorant because you obviously don't realize this is based on opinion not because sub-genres have gotten out of hand. You said that yourself kid so you obviously don't pay attention when you try to argue about shit on the internet. Once again understand topics before you try t argue about them. And try not to argue so much on the internet nobody cares about what you think so your whole thing telling me to stop arguing is pointless too because you were the one

  • @PickUpYourLighters

That insisted on pushing your opinion trying to be right on youtube. Please pull your head out of your ass like I said before and stop trying to be a smart ass on the internet Nobody likes you on here, cares about your opinion, or cares about who is right or wrong in a battle of opinion. I'm not going to argue with you anymore because you obviously don't comprehend anything that I say due to your ignorance. Feel free to cum all over yourself now that the arguing is over.

  • @AZGuiTaRiST6o2 I Came.

  • To the second lump of text, not even considering others opinions is a key characteristic of the quintessential narrow-minded idiot. So how u exclaim that, & call me narrow-minded in the same breath is beyond me. Also, I've never tried to convert u 2 my way of thinking. I realized quite a while ago that it was a little beyond u, I'm not suggesting that u agree with me in the usefulness of endless sub-genres, but that u shut up & accept that they exist & will always continue 2. So don't read them

  • @PickUpYourLighters

schooling. By the way while I'm correcting you I said "apparently you can't understand anything anybody but yourself says or thinks because your another narrow minded wanna be know it all on the internet." which means your not open to anything else anybody says because your narrow minded you stupid fuck I didn't say that you were narrow minded and weren't open to other opinions. You really need to learn to read AND comprehend what I'm saying before you argue with me.

  • Instead of putting a label on it why don't you call it Protest the Hero? Oh wait that would make fucking sense I'm sorry I forgot 90% of people on youtube like to make up sub genres and act like music know it alls and sense is just ridiculous. Metal is fucking Metal stop making a name up for every fucking band you listen to.

  • @AZGuiTaRiST6o2 Genres & subgenres have their purpose. We use genres 2 give a vague idea of the style of music, we use subgenres when drawing connections 2 other bands of the genre is not enough. 2 suggest that we should not label things or put them in2 categories simply because it is overdone, or because people argue about it is like suggesting 2 uninvent the permanent marker simply because people write graffiti. Don't like hearing about people argue genre? Don't listen. Rocket Science, right?

  • @PickUpYourLighters

It's not that there are sub genres it's that people have made up so many of the fucking things it's getting retarded. Just like the guy up top said. Bubblecore is something he made up but I bet if he was serious people would consider it a genre. I'm sick of reading comments and finding out they are genre fights it's annoying as fuck. I'm saying we shouldn't label stuff as much.

  • @PickUpYourLighters

Like mathcore Is another name for progressive metal but they added core to it so it's more "Brutal" to all the scene fags out there. What your thinking I'm saying is completely different from what I'm saying. Protest The Hero calls themselves Beardcore so they don't get a new label every two seconds. Before you try to sound smart maybe you should figure out what the other is talking about.

  • @AZGuiTaRiST6o2 & before you try to point fingers, you should listen 2 what YOU are saying. Mathcore and Progressive Metal are distinct and separate, ask any musicologist. Mathcore does not have to be progressive (see Architects) or even have it's key roots in metal (see Converge, Daughters & DEP) - Also, Progressive metal does not have to be complicated or technical (see Lacuna Coil and Gordian Knot), it also does not need to have a hardcore element. There are other forms of metal to DM dude.

  • @PickUpYourLighters

You have a different opinion on it then I do. I personally think they make to many of the fucking things. Not actual genres I'm talking about the fags that go around trying to make up a genre for every different band. Not actual genres. Like I said before, you need to understand what I'm talking about before you try to argue about it.

  • @PickUpYourLighters

And I don't pay attention to all the genre shit so I don't care if mathcore and progressive are not. Genres don't matter if to me if I like the music then I like it I don't need genres to know I like the music I like. I don't stick to one genre so it doesn't matter what I need to label them as. Like I said in my first comment. Protest the hero is protest the hero and nothing else. Do you really need to argue about it just because your opinion is different?

  • @AZGuiTaRiST6o2 U've completely missed the point. U still think that Im prescribing the use of genres 2 define 1s music taste, Thats preposterous! The whole point of genres is not 2 force feed u musical preferences but 2 make it easier 2 provide 4 those u already have. 4 example, I'm not saying that I like Primus because they're Prog-Funk, or whatever u want 2 call them, Im saying, that by having a system of classification, it's easier 2 find bands that tap the same veins that make me like them.

  • @PickUpYourLighters

No YOU apparently can't understand I'm talking about people that go around making up genres every two seconds. I'm NOT saying sub genres are pointless I'm saying making up a sub genre every two seconds so you can sound smart is stupid. Please read and understand my comment before replying next time.

  • @AZGuiTaRiST6o2 You call me wrong, and agree with me in the same sentence.

Your examples of overly drawn out subgenres are progressive metal and mathcore, which makes it obvious how you could have been misinterpreted, and I STILL disagree with you. It's just further classification to a more specific level. Sub-sub genres etc. It all makes sense, it all has a use, and frankly, so far, I don't think it's been taken to a level that makes itself redundant in it's complexity.

  • @PickUpYourLighters

Your a complete fucking retard. Let me explain this again so you can most likely misunderstand me again. What I am saying is the people that go around making up a new sub-genre for every band they see are gay. Not sub-genres in general you stupid fuck. I didn't use progressive metal or mathcore as an example I said this is considered progressive not "Math-core" right? And once again you find some way to try and seem smart.

  • @AZGuiTaRiST6o2 goddamn, do I have to spell it out to you? In saying that people going around making up a new sub-genre for every band they c are 'gay', you shun the physical act of doing that, correct? You think that doing such a thing is confusing, and pointless, right? Good, now, I DISAGREE, and have been doing just that the whole time. I never once misunderstood you, I simply believe that it plays a role and has a purpose. That, and I think if you don't like people doing it, don't read it.

  • @AZGuiTaRiST6o2 Also, don't bullshit yourself with statements like "I didn't use progressive metal or mathcore as an example I said this is considered progressive not "Math-core" right?" Here's a direct quote from you, said in the context of trying to prove that people create so many subgenres that they become redundant "Like mathcore Is another name for progressive metal but they added core to it so it's more "Brutal" to all the scene fags out there." yeah, I'd call that an example...

  • @PickUpYourLighters

Ok like I said before I thought mathcore was like progressive because I see everybody calling progressive bands mathcore. Once again your dumb ass doesn't read what I say. I also said that I didn't pay attention to the whole genre shit and that I didn't care what band was what genre. Your trying to seem intelligent and STILL managing to make yourself seem like an ass. Please stop trying to be smarter than you really are using words that are most likely to big for your mental

  • @PickUpYourLighters

capacity. There is NO point in making ANOTHER sub genre for something that ALREADY has a sub genre. That is what I'm saying is pointless. But apparently you can't understand anything anybody but yourself says or thinks because your another narrow minded wanna be know it all on the internet. If trying to argue over the internet gets you off then you can keep arguing but your only making yourself look like a fucking douche. I obviously don't care what you think and I'm not

  • @PickUpYourLighters

going to change my views on it because of something some jackass says on youtube because he likes to seems smart to other people like me on the internet that don't give two shits about what you or any other person on here has to say. You are ignorant as fuck and don't realize that this is all fucking based on OPINION. Just because somebody else has a different view on something doesn't mean you need to try and seem like a fucking smart ass because you don't agree. so please

  • @PickUpYourLighters

reply to me when you take your head out of your fucking ass and learn that your not the only person in the fucking world and everything doesn't go the way you fucking want it to. Your most likely one of those people that go into a rage when something doesn't go the way you want it. And my view isn't going to go the way you want it so feel free to freak out, pull your hair, bite your pillow, and what ever else you may do to release your anger over something not going your way

  • @AZGuiTaRiST6o2 Hahahaha you r truely amusing. 2 ur first statement. The quote is recorded , claiming that I pulled it out of context will get you nowhere. To your second statement: hey, you brought up people listening to bands because of the label, and I pointed out that it was stupid, so suddenly, you're agreeing with me. Thirdly, it's a laugh when you try to insult my intelligence with a sentence that makes no sense. Mental is not a noun sweetheart, we learn such things in year 2.

  • @PickUpYourLighters

You really need to learn to read kid. And people do start listening to bands because of their label and yes it is fucking retarded and I have said that from the start. You would know this is if you knew how to read. And what is the point of saying "Mental is not a noun sweetheart" when I said you were using words too big for your mental capacity you stupid fuck. If your that stupid to the point you cant understand that it means your brain can't handle big words you need more

  • @PickUpYourLighters

Your making yourself look like an ass trying to sound intelligent arguing over something that is NOT relevant to my statement. Once again please don't comment me until you understand my statement.

  • @AZGuiTaRiST6o2 & no... I understood ur meaning completely, I then disagreed, told u that dividing in2 genres & subgenres; even 2 the extent it is done today, is useful and has a point 2 it, & how arguing over it is not only unavoidable but necessary. I even offered u an obvious solution if it bothers you.

P.S. Why are you of the opinion that the genre shapes the music. The point of genres is that it works the other way around? There's no harm in being labeled under a genre.

  • lol Rody calls it fantasy metal. It should be epic metal :D

    PTH ftw

  • lol at ppl saying his is mathcore. its defiantly technical post-hardcore.

  • i am talking about how the lyrics are profound, especially to an atheist such as myself... dont call people faggots... it only makes you seem a bit fruity yourself...

  • fans of this type of music should check out painted in exile

  • lol is it just me or does the singer look different in every vid? haha

  • if it's just you, it's just me too

  • the words nearly bring me to tears as an atheist... they ring ture through out relevance...

  • WHY IS MOE BALD???????!!!!!!!!!

  • i cant understend the music

  • Why is that? because all the time changes? lol

  • yep.. the melody is weird

  • "weird" in music is only based on personal opinion

the melodies in this song are in time signatures other than 4/4 so people who aren't musically educated just find them "weird"

  • im musically educated, and still find weird, its a great band, but its weird

  • @Beleza93 not weird, just complex and different

  • @k1leadgeetah noooooossa senhoraaaaaaaaaa

    é esquisita pra caralho

  • @clwnz777 cuz him and the guitarist entered the national beard contest in canada! :D i dont know if they won tho, they had to go up against moses tho, so i doubt it

  • @clwnz777 ? your opinion xD my opinion is your a fag :D rody is fucking awesome :)

  • @deadcell989898, him looking like a fag has no affect whatsoever on his awesomeness. but ok suck him up, you little queer, you :D

  • erm suck up? simply said my opinion as well i simply called him awesome as did you :D you lil queer you :D

  • PFFT subgenre's..its so confusing...mathcore sounds retarded lol..i just call them progressive metal..that's it

  • or u can just call them good music

  • mathcore sounds like they just got really lazy creating sub-genre. honestly I would call this Progressive Metalcore... but being more honest PTH fuckin owns everyone right now

  • OMG...

    0:55 - 1:07

    ...Win.

  • there are only two kinds of music, good music and bad music

  • agreed!

  • 0:45 to 1:05 and 1:50 to 2:36 are awsome

  • The best mathcore band out there

  • HE HAS A BEARD

  • theres a difference between categorizing music you like and jumping down someones throat when they say something wrong. just enjoy music for what it sounds like

  • Want to know the only real genre? MUSIC. and if you really wanna break it down.... Hip-hop, jazz, techno, and rock(EVERY BAND YOU KNOW IS ROCK, SO WHAT IF THEY LOVE SOLVING MATH EQUATIONS!)

  • What the heck's mathcore?

  • @darkness81X4 this :) XD

  • *sratches head*

I'll never understand how people make up these genre names..

  • Why is everyone saying Mathcore? Subgenres are for faggots.

Look... bubblecore. I made something up. I'm a goddamn music historian

  • AMEN TO THAT

  • people feel the need to assign genre because sometimes METAL just doesnt cut it. if i say metal a lot of people think slipknot, disturbed, system of a down, stuff like that. which those bands are all good in my book. but they really cant compare to bands like this. whats wrong with wanting to label the music you listen to? and why the hell does it matter to you what people call what they listen to?

  • u forgot to mention progressive technical jazz tango groove core, sub genres help people find the right music they are after. simple :)

  • yee genrenazis suck

  • Upvote for you, good sir

  • @malice490110 ya know just because you dont like subgenres dosent mean you have to put them down for talking about it.

  • @malice490110

I agree with you to an extent, but honestly, sub-genres do add clarity, lets face it, Mathcore =/= Deathcore. I hate to say it, but once in a while I think categorizing using sub-genres is good, just not when people mercilessly argue for no reason about it over the internet instead of actually appreciating the song itself, which is fucking awesome.

  • @malice490110 hahaha, BUBBLECORE is fucking awesome you cannot clearly define most music....instead, you call it..... hmm GOOD MUSIC

  • @malice490110 LOL! Couldnt agree more.

  • @malice490110 dude bubblecore is like my second fav sub genre bro dont make fun of it. hahaha. jk. no people use sub genres because core kids dont wanna be looked at the same as goth kids and screamo emo kids. its just a form of self segregation. nothing wrong with that all. their is a problem with everyone now thinking that its trendy to hate sub genres. that has no point to it at all. and trendy to hate genres and "just enjoy the music". sure if you wanna do that go ahead. dont tell me to.

  • @malice490110 haha your exactly right

  • @malice490110 So specificity is for faggots? your pithy and poorly considered comments show your compulsive need for approval while also showing your utter lack of quality in the way you get it. Sounded witty though, consult your brain before wielding your tongue.

  • @dmcgraye And sounding witty through an excessive amount of quote-unquote big boy vocabulary is another level of douche-baggery. Though I do support your claim.

  • @FuckingSwim Hardly excessive, I expressed my message succinctly, insecure cunt.

  • @dmcgraye Dude, enough. You're not proving anything to anyone.

  • @FuckingSwim You're doing a good enough job for me :)

  • @dmcgraye Oh do I appease you? Are you masturbating furiously right now to the thought of me showing any potential care for your "unappreciated" gift of working with words? :)

  • @dmcgraye What you proved is that your criticism is completely illegitimate, a reaction to a feeling that you thought you could get away with.

  • @malice490110 Its Orgasmicore

  • @MoshPitPanda326 haha or EPIC-core

  • theys gots alls beardy

  • finally, a decent band. i've been wasting precious moments of my life on dead end youtube leads like chelsea smile, bring the horizon, etc.

these guys have some soul a la btbam.

    nice.

  • Amazing band, just found this one TODAY and hell yeah they're good! \,,/

  • 2:14=equals melodic explosion

  • This song sounds a tad more mathcore than various others, but if you're interested in mathcore check out The number twelve looks like you. Sadly they are split up now but i got a chance to see them live in little old plymouth before they broke up. R.I.P. :')

  • "Language is the heart's lament

A weak attempt to circumvent the loneliness inherent

    In the search for permanence"

    Amazing part

  • OMFG check out Rody's man beard \m/

  • hellyeah xD

  • Whoa o_o; I've been looking for a good new band to listen to and these guys have been around since what, 2000?

I like their sound. And honestly I haven't got the slightest clue what mathcore is but if that's what these guys are, I can dig it. : ^ ]

  • It's not really mathcore. Some people can't get past the fact that just because you use odd time sigs you aren't necessarily mathcore.

  • @ericmhanks no um wow. this IS mathcore

  • Oh get over it. Music is music....

Why does everyone feel the need to assign everyone to a genre?

  • @ericmhanks

thank you. i freakin' hate that... just enjoy the sound, or move on. i don't even know how to 'classify' half the people I listen to, so I don't try. I like what I like and that's it. But that seems to be a crime depending on who you speak to. eff that! lol

  • Which album is this from?

  • @D1bUjan fortress

  • fortress

  • 1:39-1:53 is amazing! Awesome Song!

  • I got a good label for bands like Protest the Hero, good rock.

  • i hate people that critisize things they dont like ... if u dont like dont listen ther are fans of evrything. i respect anyone that does what they want to and plays what they want to not following what others want to hear. thats the freedom of music if u dont know that then your not a true music fan and you should keep your mouth shut

  • Says the bedroom shredder with a marshall MG.

    Fuckin lol'd

  • haha damn I think he made his videos private :( Has the mouth to talk shit but he can't play for shit apparently.

  • @shredder731 GTFO troll

  • Does anyone know what kind of bass Arif is using in this video?

  • @GotAbortion

I just asked what kind of bass it was. You should have just answered the question or not said anything at all. For the record I can read sheet music fluently and play from tabs. My instruments: Sax/Bass/Guitar/Piano/Singing What part of my question inclined you to believe I didn't know what notes he was playing?

    Stop being arrogant

  • @GotAbortion

Wow, overreact much? Quit being such an elitest. Plenty of amazing musicians were never able to read music. Music isn't all about theory you know...(and for the record, I am studying music theory in college...)

  • @GotAbortion

wow man, you're totally a troll and a faggot

It's true that the notes are important, but I think that in this kind of music the more important thing is THE PRACTICE. It doesn't seems important on me that you know which notes are they playin', neither if you know how to write it on the stave if you can't play that

and by the way, a countless number of groups use tabs to compose their songs and make it harder to play, even PTH :)

Go, buy Guitar Pro and make some loops

  • and Spector, if I'm not wrong.

I've seen arif playin' twice in live and he always used Spector basses, the only change was the colour

  • I love Rodies beard!!!!

  • lmao i love how rody has a different look for each video

  • Those who talk Bull about these guys...are just little Kids.Even dough Mathcore isn't much my everyday music, still, these people create COMPLEX Music. They're so Talented.

But Thanks to PTH im getting to like Mathcore :)

  • @TManXL2000 Mathcore.. Bleh. Fuck that tag.

    These guys require no label.

Once you've got into them however, sample some Dillinger Escape Plan, Textures, Periphery/Bulb and SikTh. Not to mention Meshuggah of course.

  • totally agree, lets get rid of the tag that is "mathcore" it just sounds terrible, makes me not even want to listen to bands labled such a thing

  • @ksefreak fucking gay... i dont want to listen the band because i think mathcore sound terrible!.... hahahaha omg

  • i d
