I think the way you play is just fine. So what if you catch his spear/sword thing or not? Dodging is just as good as throwing back when trying not to get hit. And I have a question for you. It took me a good long while to finally master playing as Nero. The aggressive AIs, plus Dante's nerfing on DMD, really kicked my ass on Dante, though...

Heres a tip,

When hes on his knees, devil buster him to get his shield weak. Keep repeating this and he will be vulnerable to use devil bringer on him. Meaning do the cool moves like on other bosses :P

Just a tip for next time, you can reflect the spears he thows at you with the devil buster. He gives off health when you do.
