Weird that the bonus catchphrase is called the super catchphrase, while in the UK version, the super catchphrase is called 'a bonus catchphrase' whilst the final round is called the 'super catchphrase'.
I remember this as a kid on a CBS station either in North Carolina or from Roanoke when I was in Galax, VA at the time. It came on at 12noon. It was great, the pyramid, PYL, TPIR and this show. My grandmother then watched all her CBS soaps in the afternoon. What great memories.
That's probably because the scoring system in this version allows so few opportunities to score (only on the bonus); whereas in England, you scored on every catch phrase.
Here, you could make every toss-up but one, then your opponent takes the last toss-up, the bonus and all the money. How fair is that to the guy who did so well with the toss-ups?
Wish I could answer 'em all, but it ran Sep-Dec 1985, give or take a month (syndication)......I am sure it was cancelled without notice; I sent in some ideas for Catch Phrases, and not even a reply.
If someone were to revive this show, It would be similar to the 80's US version. Round 1: toss up catch phrase will be worth up to $200. Round 2: up to $500. Round 3: Up to $1,000. The player that solves the "Super Catch Phrase" wins all the money in the bank. The player that wins 2 rounds or the player that has the most money if it runs out of time will go on to the bonus round. If someone solves 5 catch phrases in the bonus round they will a progressive jackpot starting at $10,000 in cash.
They actually tried to do a revival back in 2007. However the pilot episode did not sell. But I would like to see it get a second chance here in the states.
You may get your wish. CBS is planning for a fall-2010 debut as well as "$1,000,000 Pyramid" to fill in for "As the World Turns". Doubt that they'll use that 80's theme.

@cupcakefairy87 and Roy Walker never called them a "TOSS-UP CATCHPRASE"
even though I think he should have.

I got a 5-question survey:
1. Was there any Catch Phrase pilots with some minor differences?
2. What month did Catch Phrase premiered?
3. Who was the highiest winner?
4. What was the highiest score?
5. Was there an announced or unannounced finale episode?

I'd prefer the UK bank format.
Hondo20132 3 years ago
I think that they each earns them money and places that in the bank.
Not two rounds, a full total.
$10,000 is good with the M, $5,000 otherwise for five in a row.

In England, where this show had a longer life, the mascot was Mr. Chips; here it was Herbie.
