Only today I am discovering Mondo Rock did all these songs. Come said the boy, is one of my favourite songs of all time but I only ever hear it on the radio and didn't even know who sang it, so I looked it up.
I feel like I've stumbled on a freakin' gold mine 8{D!
AAAaaaw thanx for tha memories...growin up.. mum always had a radio playin in tha kitchen n yeh all tha music u put up was playin....sooo reminencing rite now....thank you <3
.. and while I am making comments I dont buy into the 'They dont make good music like this anymore' argument either. There was plenty of good local music in the old days and there is plenty now as well, in fact I think we are blessed in this country there is so much talent. Triple J and Rage may have taken over from Countdown as the main drivers of local music in the media, but to my mind, the quality is still right up there
I also want to add my thanks for all your videos on all your channels .. We can now watch Rage in January and see a lot of these classics on Countdown but its only 4 weekends a year. The story of Australian/NZ music from the 70s through the 80s is a very interesting one and I am glad that this here YouTube presents a means of recording it online for posterity. Its easy to see a lot of comments on many songs from younger people who may never have otherwise come across a lot of this stuff
Thank you for all these videos, its opened up a whole new realm of music for me. I've always enjoyed 80s music immensely but I've never got into the Australian/New Zealand stuff... I love it thank you.
I'm going to learn Ross Wilson's move at the beginning, people will love me dancing that; will make their day go faster. But I'll be careful where I perform it; not in the North Shore of Sydney - that's for sure.
Not sure about limited talent as he has loads, as for the rest, ego, self absorption, you'll find these traits in the make up of most successful humans.
How do you think you could possibly stand up at this level with out a big ego!
I once heard that much 80's music was inspired by the punk movement, i fail to see the connection, am i missing something? how did we go from the pistols "god save the queen" to this????
That's a bit of a naive comment there. Not everybody in the 80's took to punk, and believe me, the 1980's were a major contraction to punk-ethics. Have a look at Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet and question this... do you really think those guys understood the Sex Pistols?
As for Mondo Rock, these guys had been playing around before the Sex Pistols even thought about music as an option.
There's a reason why you only [once] heard that much 80's music was inpsired by the punk movement.
I think perhaps you wholly misunderstood the point, the comment was posted more as a question than a less than factual summation of the punk movement. I never liked (or listened to) punk, besides i would have only been 3-7 years old during punks heyday....
I think you'll find that there was lots of other music round during the brief punk era. Smooth pop tunes were still cranked out in high volume in the late 70s. The answer to your question is that mondo rock and the sex pistols were completely unrelated, hence the difference.
@nzoz1981 what is ironic is at the time people would call the music such as this or Spandau Ballet 'crap'. Twenty or more years later its celebrated whilst Lady Ga Ga is called crap *not a fan just an example*. Twenty years from now we will call her stuff and the music of 2010 timeless. LOL that's the cycle when music comes out we bitch about it, decade and more later we celebrate it. Good commment you make (yes I know it is a year old but)
@brismike65 Sorry but Lady Gaga`s music will NEVER be called timeless, and neither will most "music" from 2010.Music of the 80`s had heart, had soul, had meaning.Today`s music is all about a quick buck, and it will never emulate or be remembered like .the great tunes of yesteryear
@mikeyloveslorraine but that's what they said about music like the Backstreet Boys 10 years ago. Gaga won't be timeless. The music of the 80's I went to a DJ set by Spinderella today here in Brisbane, and she played to people half my age 80's music, and they loved it. So yes you are right 80's had something.
@mikeyloveslorraine I think SOME of Lady GooGoo's songs will be considered "classics", if not "timeless", which they definitely aren't. But the idea of senior citizens in 2060 singing "Poker Face" in the lounge of their assisted care facility is amusing...
@EffectiveIrritant That's why it was called New Wave. Punk only lasted for a couple of yrs in the mainstream really. Mainly because it was really manufactured music, a gimmick, that got boring after a while.
the things i best remember about the video are the multi-coloured background, and ross wilson doing that move where it looks to me as if he's holding something and wacking it on the arse
