One of the saddest Tull songs from a time when we all thought the world might end any day and I personally thought Tull was about to end too (not sure why). Well, we're are all still here further on. Tull too, thank goodness.
I saw the tour, they did (A), that was the promotion of this record. I found Eddie Jobson to be a fabulous combination on the stage with I.A. They did this flute/violin jig kind of thing that was fab. I first saw Tull around 1970 in the Sacramento Mem. Auditorium. Charles Lloyd opened. 2nd half of Tull show featured, "for our Benefit", John Evans on piano/organ. They rolled that stuff out on Tull's intermission. Quite the memory and a wonderful one, at that! Tull has had a fine career.
"Brave fires that flicker cough, make way to winds through broken doors." Geez, you think he's talking about us? Great line though, a most foreboding coda to the A experiment that seemed to cost us John Evan. One of those kind of surprisingly good tours though, the Black Sunday opener was close to profound, love the Pine Marten's Jig too. And in fairness the late Mark Craney was splendid on the tour.

I love JT for something like Benefit, Aqua, Thick and so on. I know this album is not something great. But this song goes straight to the heart.
Yeah, it does...

I like Tull, but this is a bit ponderous.

the album is great but the synth drums destroy every song.

This is the best song on this album after Black Sunday. Wish they would have a video of it.

Yes this is undoubtedly a minor classic from the pied piper himself.Well done for reminding us of its excellence.

Thanks for posting this obscure little song from "A".
Truly one of Tull's most beautiful and inspiring songs.
"Saw fiery angels kiss the dawn."
Is Ian a lyrical genius or what????
