The Who wrote the original and it was the first song on their second studio album released in 1966. It was released under two different names "Happy Jack" and "A Quick One While He's Away". One name in USA and one in the UK however I can't remember which is which.

over here in the USA they were known as "the BIRDS U.K."
and were 100% ignored by the radio stations out here.
There was soooo much good music coming from all directions that I think the US was overwhelmed and just stuck to the formulas that had been tried and tested...THAT my friends was OUR LOSS!! I didn't even hear of them until ten years ago...WOT A SHAME I imagine the confusion in their name hurt the USA sales considerably (I think the BIRDS were before the BYRDS)
am not 100% sure about this but did the american stations refuse to play them because of the thing between the 2 of them, but lets face it the birds the bYrds fk its 2 totally different spelt groups
well darrin you have heard of them now
i'd check out the otherversion of this i uploaded by the BIRDS far better than this
I've heard there were lawsuits because the (U.S.) BYRDS were ticked about booking shows in England when a band of the same name existed, and I hear the BIRDS defended themselves valiantly, but unfortunately the damage was done and by the time the war was over, so were those bands.....DANG IT can't we all just get along in the name of MUSIC!!!! (not the name of a band) I mean does a name REALLY matter that much???
full of fatcats and shit, fk look at what that sharon osbournes old man did to the small faces fk me, probally one of the greatest white soul singers of all time, and probally the worst fucking paid, stevie marriot RIP
Nuggets saved my life and the lives of sooo many good tunes that may have been forgotten otherwise.
Yeah, the biz ISN'T COOL and most of the time they are trying to CONTROL wot is cool, and the kids will never fall for that although the industry STILL tries. There are LOTS of good ones out there that did us a huge service by bringing us those great bands....too many to name, but we know who the good fat cats are :)
who does the original ? the who did this song also?

Don't mess with the original. The Who's version is much better. I'd much rather have Rog yelping it out.
