I took my CPAT yesterday and I passed! It's tougher than you think, but not impossible. If you are taking this test, I would advise getting on a stair master LONG before taking the test!
@kobe19094 Well, how about you cut the drugs out of your lifr and that way we won't have to worry if our fire is trying to be put out by some cock that's off his head...
Dude I dont know man, that one dude made it look easy. I'm conditioning now but even then I need to go to the oc and practice it a few times to get the feel for it before I make the shot!!!
true - and i've only gone and done PAT's in departments thsat developed their own. But from what i've seen of the standerdized CPAT vs. PDX's PAT - PDX's looks way harder!
they should add aerial climb. I don't know how many people are afraid of heights but they can do the CPAT. I just got hired on our city's department and the things they have us doing are more difficult then the CPAT and one of my buddies works for another department and he had a guy in his recruiting class that was afraid of heights and locked up on the aerial.
iDoc, I wish the passing time was 9:34, that would wittle down the 200 people in my area that have taken this test a little further! I believe the test is probably different then when you took it though, but who knows.
I just took this identical test recently. The hardest part of the test in my opinion was dragging the dummy along. It weighs 165Lbs and you have to drag it a good ways. Otherwise, the test was not too bad. Being in decent shape and at least training for the stair climb is imperitive. I did mine in 8:02, utilizing only one practice session where I was very thorough and did it in 9:20.
Facilities may modify the test. I had one that did a stair climb, rescue dummy drag, hose drag for X feet then they charged the hose and you had to drag it x feet, and the equipment carry, another did a rolled hose pull to the roof of their dept, a 2 1/2 hose drag, you had to CARRY the 175lb dummy with none of the body parts touching the ground, then you pick the ladder up from the ground and load it on the the truck, then you got to climb the ladder touch the nozzle and come back down.

ToroKiller2012 3 years ago
so how heavy is that weight vest?
RichardDdog 3 years ago
The vest is 50 pounds, but when you are on the treadmill they put another 12.5 on each shoulder, for a total of 75 pounds.
pcoplin 3 years ago
practice it a few times and it aint no big deal. most of the career guys can hit it around 5 or 6. You just gotta be in firefighting shape
ewenlillard 3 years ago
no way, 3 minutes are completely commited to the stair stepper, there is no way to complete the other 7 stations in 2 minutes.

Yes, but it is not a CPAT. It's their own PAT that they devised.

why arent they wearing turnouts?
ncfirefighter910 4 years ago
not all places require them
dyefoo 4 years ago
thanks bo. our state requires full gear
ncfirefighter910 4 years ago
Its a 45 pound pac. When you are on the stair master is a total of 75. Its all easy after the Stair master.
buzman1985 3 years ago
The weights that are put as a vest on them and on their shoulders is designed to make it seem like your wearing turnouts and your SCBA.

No one can modify the CPAT test. It's licensed by the IAFF and cannot be changed. If it was a different test, then it was not the CPAT test.

I trained hard and passed the cpat. It was difficult but not impossible. Firefighters are as tough as they come. God willing I will be one soon.

10:20? Damn... When I took it, the passing time was 9:34 :\
iDoc 4 years ago
The passing time was NEVER 9:34. If you want to know why/how CPAT was created, go to the IAFF website.

I dominated this test. Easier than shit.
