hi i wanted to make a cake for my daughter i was curious how to make and use and shape the gum paste?? i am going to make her a fondant cake and directions will be helpfulll thank you...
Hi Mayen, i have just subscribed, i attempted to make a cake similar to your cake for my little girl's 3rd Birthday, it is no way as good as your's but my little girl loved it. Thank you for being such a lovely person and sharing your fantastic work.
i loveeee ur dora cake... appreciate all the details you made on it... i really like how u made the map... you're very very very good with adding details on your cake, i know you spend and take ur time in making them and it shows a lot on ur finish product... i think thats what makes you really stand out as a cake decorator - great job ate mayen, im so proud of you ( i brag about u to all my friends and family and how much you inspire me.. thanks!)
for the clouds, could i use fondant? do i need to do them ahead of time? if so, what curved surface should i use when drying? or is it possible to just do the clouds and stick them onto the cake right away? can i do this cake but not cover the cake with fondant (just buttercream)? and still use fondant cut outs?
Thanks so much for your reply! So, do you assemble all your gum paste pieces and get them ready before placing on the cake? I'm just trying to figure out the steps. I appreciate your help. :) I'll have to look for that fondant glue. Any other tricks with assembling and making it all stay together? Oh, I'm so over my head, but it's been fun and it's actually looking good so far. Thanks for the inspiration to even try this!
Hello! Beautiful cake! I am attempting to make it this week but I have never done anything like this before. My biggest question for you is how do you make everything stick together so nicely? For instance, how did you stick together the roof to the house, and the leaves and bananas to the trees? And did you do all that upon construction of the cake or earlier? I've never worked with gum paste or fondant so I'd love some more instruction on how to do this. Our dora party is this weekend. Thanks!
Hi. If you need something like this soon, better start making the gumpaste parts asap. you need them already dry when you place them on the cake or else they will droop down as they dry. shape your leaves and dry them on a curved plastic flower former--or anything curved. i use fondant glue to stick them to the cake. for the heavy leaves, i used wire or toothpicks. hope it all goes well!!
Hello, I'm starting to think perhaps you made the glue. Can you share the recipe? And, I just made marshmallow fondant for the cake. Not sure if it will work. What kind of fondant do you use? Thanks! I'm excited about my new hobby, and hope my Dora cake turns out!
How can I e-mail you??? I'm new to you tube and can not find your e-mail address here. I love you cakes, and would love to ask you a few things. thank you in advance, Itala.
About this cake, did you use cutters for the clouds and trees or did you drawn them in a paperwax and then transfered to the fondant??? Thank you very much, Itala
i am so sorry for not being able to answer this sooner. the clouds and trees are just cute freehand using a sharp cutter. in a scenario like this you wont need to trace and cut because there;s not rules in how they should look anyway-- your cut will be the right cut, so go ahead and cut directly on the fondant sheet.
Mayen, Please please please tell me how you did the map. I am doing a princess pirate party and the map would be the best way to pull the pirate part in without being to ungirly. Also how do the stamps work?
I'm so sorry, Mayen, I haven't been keeping up with your videos. I've been ill, not bed ridden, but very ill and still am. I couldn't look at my laptop screen AT ALL it made me so nauseas and gave me head aches. But I seem to be getting better. I haven't forgotten about you. Ok....I LOVE YOUR CAKE!! I absolutely love your map, you should show how to make it, :P don't have to tho.
Ate! you're so talented! your youtube story inspires me! ate, could you show a video on how to make the actual fondant and gum paste mix and the materials needed? please, we dont have a place here that sells actual fondant. help please!=(
Love your dora design, I actually just made a dora character and it came out pretty good but I know what you mean about copyng a character it is alot of work
you are totally right !!:) it took me a while to find something that can act as a cake topper -even if i had to buy that toy-- since the dora cake toppers at the craft stores didnt look like dora to me. from now on, im shopping at KB toys or at toys r us for other cool toppers!!!
Beautiful Mayen ... I love, love, love the banana trees especially. What a great idea to dry the trees and house on the curve. Did you lay them over the cake tin to get the correct curve?
Thanks :) I tried to dry the house on the cake tin, but since i was using only 2 inch deep cake pans, it was almost impossible. So i found a flat-bottom bowl that was almost as big as my pan, and i dried it on its side.
The tree leaves were dried on the curved plastic flower former set from wilton. hope that helps :) Thanks again!
Thanks mimzy... I learned from the best ! YOU! If not for people like you who are patient enough to email back and share tips and instructions, I'd still be back at square one . thanks a bunch !
Well done, i love how big your cakes always are!! Over in england, we only ever have two tiered cakes for weddings and special birthdays like 18 or 21.
your cakes are getting better and better every time!!! I cant believe it haha! I love the big trees and house, the way they are taller than the cake and sticking out looks very effective!! Well done again!
Thanks Tammy! Im still waiting for your tutorial :) thanks for seeing the 'sticking out' effect ... i made it that way to make it unique and to make the bday pictures of the cake look better since it will not look typical.
