If Ferrari or Porsche ever decided to play with 16 pistons and 4 turbochargers, I'm 200% sure that they would pump out much more than 1k horses. How do people manage to think the mclaren is quicker of the line its 0-62 in what 3.2-3.4 secondds the veyron does it in 2.5 and u can let a mclaren get to 120 mph and then set of a veyron and it will still beat it to 200 mph lol and then now you have the super sport version it seems like people are so down on the veyron because it absolutely dominates everything now

The F40 is probably the coolest supercar ever made and hell of a fun to drive BUT if I hade to choose I would go for the Enzo any day. The reason is that you can turn off all the computers and drive it like an F40, even faster, and it will attract a lot more girls!
He should have tested the F1 LM, I'd say he would like it most, it's raw like the F40, very loud, powerful and fast. A racer rather than a road car like the F40

I rode an F40 yesterday and gave me a real pain in the ass. But it is the kind of pain you either are willing to bear or pain that you want to keep. I didn't give a shit even if my back hurt like crazy, my ass had bruises, and my head banged on its window after the driver tried to drift it and failed so hard. But I still don't care, that was hell of alot more fun than driving a Carrera GT. Even if I was a passenger, it was more fun.
Another interesting point is the reason why the Carrera GT wont hit 230+. The huge wing it has provides ALOT of downforce as speed increases, this limited the top speed but increased more traction in corners. While the cars improves, Clarkson's mind still remains 11 years ago.
well, if i could have an F40 or an F1, but not both, i would be pretty hard pressed to choose. But that's a decision i probably wont have the pleasure to make. :( haha

McLaren? No accounting for taste... mind you, I live only 13 miles from the McLaren factory, so I am kind of prejudiced. The issues with the F1 can all be sorted, and you'll have such a great car at the end of it. It is still the definitive supercar.
I agree with Clarkson completely. The safety systems are useless. I keep them off simply because I can drive. I don't understand why you would have them on anyway.

I think the F40 embodies the total driving experience.
That classic, hard supercar look. And while it falls short of the current specs, I think the F40 will give you a much more SENSATIONAL driving experience than any other street production car out there.
I'll take an F40 over a Veyron, or a Zonda any day. ...but that's just me.

F40 is my favourite ever, cuz its from my generation. And did you know Ferrari built it for Rallye Group B races, obviously for races on tarmac, but its true... Porsche then came up with the the 959 and they even won some desert races... crazy times!
The 250TR's body was designed by Scaglietti...I think. Which is an Italian designer. But you may know something I don't. Oh, and it was actually designed by the discontinued Evoluzione team whom built concept 288GTO's for the FIA Group B category. It was discontinued because FIA stopped the B Series. And you're right. Enzo wanted to beat the 959, and all the other competition for the Ferrari 40th anniversary. Yeah. Crazy times!
@TuffRockinAC I don't agree 100%. Though the F40 will most likely give you an incomparable driving experience, I would prefer a TVR. Those are as close as you can get to pure driving (though they have the nasty habit of falling apart).

@red33m23 Why were they better drivers? At that time rich people were also buisness men in suits. They just couldn't drive as fast as they can today thanks to driver aids. They didn't use electronics like that because it was not around. I don't like the electronics and driver aids for supercars, or flappy paddle gearboxes, but they make it safer and easier to drive fast.

go to hell Jeremy Clarkson. To hell with your patriotism. you cant even appreciate a good old british mclaren car.
the biggest fans of the mclaren f1 like Tiff Needell say the f1's gearbox is light, the steering is responsive, the fronts simply beauttiful (well at least WAAAY better than his fave supercar the shitron) and the back end grips well.
you dont know where you're heading because you cant drive at all. LOL. you expect every supercar to have traction control and ESP like the shitron?

@topgearnut1989 I have driven an F40 and all I can say is:
The ride is horrible, the turbo lag isn't that bad, the engine noise is deafening, the brakes feel dull, and I don't care. It really is a go-kart with a twin-turbo V8. It's nothing short of spectacular

Koenigsegg is modern, and it didn't hold back, which I like. TVR is another company that is flat-out; it doesn't even give ABS.

I think the F40 embodies the total driving experience.
That classic, hard supercar look. And while it falls short of the current specs, I think the F40 will give you a much more SENSATIONAL driving experience than any other street production car out there.
I'll take an F40 over a Veyron, or a Zonda any day. ...but that's just me.
Oh, by the way, top two Ferraris in chronological order.

@TuffRockinAC I think the 250TR was built by a swiss guy under the license from ferrari, have you ever heard about it? just some history facts........ F40 is my favourite ever, cuz its from my generation. And did you know Ferrari built it for Rallye Group B races, obviously for races on tarmac, but its true... Porsche then came up with the the 959 and they even won some desert races... crazy times!

The 250TR's body was designed by Scaglietti...I think. Which is an Italian designer. But you may know something I don't. Oh, and it was actually designed by the discontinued Evoluzione team whom built concept 288GTO's for the FIA Group B category. It was discontinued because FIA stopped the B Series. And you're right. Enzo wanted to beat the 959, and all the other competition for the Ferrari 40th anniversary. Yeah. Crazy times!

@TuffRockinAC I don't agree 100%. Though the F40 will most likely give you an incomparable driving experience, I would prefer a TVR. Those are as close as you can get to pure driving (though they have the nasty habit of falling apart).

One of my favorite Top Gear episodes - however while I've always liked the F40 but given the choice - I still think I'd prefer the McLaren F1.
BTW - minor point - but it was Slim Pickens (not Peter Sellers) who rode atop the Nuclear bomb in Dr. Strangelove.

@AlexxSR ...hmmm. Depends what kind of track. If you're talking a quarter mile drag, then yeah, I agree. If you race Monaco or Laguna Seca, then I wouldn't be so sure.

The main reason that most supercars today are built with all these computers is that today the ones who buy them..don't know how to drive them.
In the old era if you had an F40..you knew how to drive.
Manual gearbox for example is much more fun..only if you know how to use one. Differently stick with the automatic

@red33m23 Why were they better drivers? At that time rich people were also buisness men in suits. They just couldn't drive as fast as they can today thanks to driver aids. They didn't use electronics like that because it was not around. I don't like the electronics and driver aids for supercars, or flappy paddle gearboxes, but they make it safer and easier to drive fast.
