I thought he was kind of a jerk, saying everyone he sent out was not enlightened. That he just told them that to get them off his back. Rather mean spirited, not to mention arrogant, since it deceived both his emissaries and those that they taught.
As for this foot-worship of the god-man, it's childish nonsense - perhaps appropriate to that culture but not to ours.
It's time to realize everyone is enlightened and no one is special.
