  • Germans, is it your agricultural machines? You look like Polish countrymen ;). I remember Polish people were importing your agricultural machines to Poland in the past. Did they take all away? Or maybe they were stolen! Gods!

  • I go back in time and place and end up at the discoteque at the Greek island Antiparos - dancing the summers away. Alphaville's Big in Japan along with U2 hits made my stays unforgettable living and staying with the German girls Petra and Conny at Antiparos Hotel owned by Georgios and his Maria. Junior and the rest of his Scottish friends made excellent companionship.

Blessed be the memory from back then - Guttorm Jon

  • They were popular in Poland. But this song was unknown to me.

  • Summer in Berlin and summer in Warsaw. Europe is our home. Remember about it! All!

  • This band is INCREDIBLY talented. Definitely the kings of synthpop.

  • Best wishes from Poland! Germans have good cars and music but we have beautiful women.

  • Nagyon szép Szám!

  • one hit wonder group????? big in japan, forever young, dance with me, jerusalem, sounds like a melody, etc alphaville was and is a big band, that changed the music in 80´s

  • Alphaville is usually known as a one hit wonder group. That is so unfortunate. Their first two albums were full of classics, like this one. Each of these songs were more than enough to make one group one hit wonder. All in all they had great lyrics, great music. Their later works were great as well, a little bit more "experimental". I love them.

  • Noch nie gehört aber sau gut

  • THX!

  • Alphaville, ich Erinnere mich an eine tolle Zeit mit tollen Freunden, es ist eine sehr schöne Musik und wenn ich beim Zuhören die Augen schließe dann Reise ich zurück in der Zeit...

  • I was listening their songs long time before anyone in my country could imagine we will be able join to NATO and EU, a lot of change hapened since then. When now I am listening "Summer in Berlin", the travel machine start working and taking me back to teenaiger time.

    Good bless you Alphaville :)

  • Many young people don´t remember Alphaville - and they don´t remember the "wall" (the iron curtain). But this music will never die - Alphaville is "forever young"!

  • super

  • oh how sweet to memorize together the back golden decade i swear to god it was as beautiful and unforgettable .

i was a little kid that time but i used to go and buy records and write the lyrics and keep the posters hanged on my little room walls.

that time music was like a game for a little kid and surely it was my wonderful game and superior life times.

  • outstanding song. one of the best ever !

  • Great song ! I was 12 when the "Forever Young" album was released in Germany...my dad bought it and I listened to it all the time...so I still like it after all these years, even if it's 85% nostalgia, why I like it, but hell...it makes me like that album, and that song is one of the best of the whole album...the worst in my humble opinion is "Forever Young"...

  • @CerPhall Oh you can't be serious about "Forever Young"...it is nearly a masterpiece...

  • @CerPhall yes, u cant be serious really, its my fav from alphaville. and its not nearly a masterpierce, it is A masterpiece.

  • @CerPhall I agree with you. And it´s nearly similar to your experience. Forever young was my first album. I got it as a christmas present from my parents when I was 12 and I listened to it the whole time. The song Summer in Berlin was my favourite track on the album. Retrospective it´s funny how it still sounds modern and innovative.

  • Diesen Song sollte man öfter hören einfach schön:-)

  • All the young people who admire this song from my youth times gimme hope for the future! Congratulations for good taste!

  • Sa wielcy i ponadwiekowi!

  • yay hip hop !!

  • Das Bild erinnert mich an "Kinder des Zorns" *gg*

  • This song is very very beautiful, but makes me sad.

  • im 16 and i LOVE ALPHAVILLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Its an excellent song, Alphaville is one of the best bands of 80s. I m listening to them from the early 80, they are truly fantastic.

  • @joselo236 agreed. Too bad that asshole Jay-Z copied forever young. What a piece a shit hack faggot.

  • @supmywaxter: man, am totaly at your side!

  • Thats amazing song !!!!!!!

  • I love the summers in Berlin!!!

  • Great Song

  • The best band ever:*

  • My favourite song from Alphaville!

  • J'adore cette chanson !!!

alphaville est un super groupe !!!!!!!!

  • the more i hear the more i like

  • Thats a fucked up picture. But an awesome song......

  • GREAT!!!

  • and what you think they are? great tune btw

  • i was last week in Berlin, loved to listen to this song walking the kurfustendam.

  • Everlasting sounds..Many thanks

  • marian gold sei un mito. i fantastici 80' lo sono anche grazie a te..

  • 1954 May 26. Born: Hartwig Schierbaum in Herford Germany.

  • I have Polish, German & East Asian (DNA) genes. Not suprised Marian looks the way he does =¬D

  • marian gold the best!!! viva

  • I was listening to this song last summer when I was visiting Berlin.. it felt just too great. This is the best synthpop album ever..

  • Love this song very much. Does anyone know more about Marian's ethnic background...I'm so curious. I would bet my life on him being of Native American/Canadian descent. Being German myself, I know there's lots of diversity of looks among Germans, but he looks Native w/o a doubt.

  • If I remember right his grandfater was from Poland. :)

  • GOOD AND OLD FUCKING TIMES...

  • I like alphaville and i was born in the early 90's, it pisses me off how youth these days listen to garbage insted of this

  • what yuo need to understand is that most of people alwaysq listennied to shit :) good music listenners have always been rare, dont idealise the past, its like this at any age, enjoy your good music taste ;)

  • I KNOW!! As a teen I hated 70's music with guitars and long-hairs and then came starving British bands on the Dole, synths, and inno-freaking-vation! Now they are adding a guitar drone to everything. But this has silences, volume contrasts, tone. Look also for vids or mock-vids of Alphaville's "Dance With Me" (long version) and some other 80's faves: Parachute Club "Dancing at the Feet of the Moon"; Tears for Fears "The Hunger"; Modern English "Someone's Calling".

  • Righto, good to see some like minded people still around :)

  • @supmywaxter I was born in 1961 and the 80's were fab! I say often I was sick of 70's longhairs with their guitars; the 80's had starving British bands on the Dole, synths, and inno-freaking-vation! I was looking for a DIFFERENT sound to satisfy what I had no name for, but which I now recognize is my cold, cold silicon heart.

  • @supmywaxter ...and don't blame the young people too much! Grunge has introduced a convention that all songs MUST have a flange guitar drone all through. Where are the soft sounds, the artful silences? I wish I had been more involved in music and dance clubs when I was young, should have gotten Big Hair...hahaha. What a wasted youth!

  • @supmywaxter rap is owful. i agree 100%% Todays shit like the little faggot Bieber is mass produced. ITS SHIT!

  • @supmywaxter we don't all listen to garbage, and many people far older than us listen to garbage, also. It isn't just the youth. People in the 80's also called this garbage. There is plenty of music being written now that isn't garbage. It may not be played on Clear Channel radio networks, but there is plenty of it. This is by no means art music, by the way.

  • @joseph2ne

Yet another person born in the 80's trying to tell everyone how things were. I was there. This wasn't called garbage, and we knew something special was happening.

  • @ATHEISTATOM Yet another person who believes their experience in life is the only one that exists. Plenty of people said it was garbage, plenty of people will say it is garbage, just like everything else whether or not anyone else thinks it is of worthy quality.

  • @joseph2ne Did you hear these things from the womb ?

NO, if you talked shyt about these guys, you were attacked by a mob of teen girls. It happened to me for just saying they sound like hairdressers. and NOBODY dared say it was garbage. Look it up....you wont find a quote written back then, calling it garbage. That's a FACT.

  • @ATHEISTATOM Are you being serious? Since when is there a publication of every thing every person on the planet has ever said? Since when is teen girls attacking you ever been a deterrent to making statements? A fact? You can not be serious. I suppose you didn't actually read my last post, and are stuck on my age as opposed to my point. There is no music that all people agree is great. There is someone somewhere calling it garbage.

  • @joseph2ne Look at all the praise of this kind of stuff from the younger generations. Good music transcends. We had garbage, and most of us knew it was garbage, but this wasn't it.

There does seem to be a lack of originality now. This shyt back then was new, and it was ours.

  • @ATHEISTATOM You bring up many good points for argument in music. Does popularity equal quality? This is a subject often discussed in modern classical music venues also.

I agree that it is hard to find popular music that is truly original. But I also think it is difficult to find anything that is truly original because everything is a product of what has come before it, in some way. I think there is original music being written and played today that is worth while and also meaningful.

  • @joseph2ne Quality music CAN become popular. MUSE is a good example of that, one of the few modern bands with technical talent, grand concepts, meaningful lyrics, and sincere performance. Those things we value Alphaville and others for, and will transcend. I wish there were more.

  • @ATHEISTATOM This is also important to modern classical music because composers who do not yet enjoy the fame of those like Philip Glass or John Corigliano have difficulty having ensembles perform their music because of a need for groups to perform popular classical music (quality pieces, but not new art music), inorder for them to continue to be supported financially. This new music from moving forward at the speed it has in the past. Also, writing original sounding music pushes composers

  • @ATHEISTATOM to find new sounds to work with, but these instrumentations may not exist in regular ensembles and cause even more difficulty in producing original sounding music. The last 100 years have pushed the modern orchestras and other ensemble basically to their limits with instrumentation, twelve tone and other new tonal systems, rhythm, etc. This is somewhat a similarity to pop music which also seems to have trouble finding new ways of sounding original bc of the great progress of thepast

  • @joseph2ne I also believe that because of the need for marketability, popular music is restricted to things that will make money, and not necessarily things that will inspire people or push pop music in a new direction. For this reason i also think many bands who had success in the80's and previous years probably wouldn't make it now-a-days b/c the focus is not on selling good music to get people to buy music, but to sell someone who looks right.

  • @joseph2ne

Yes, the focus is on money, especially since they have a smaller pool of ppl willing to pay for music, when they can just steal it electronically. Talented artists have to get regular jobs, while music execs sit around in suits and formulate the next act they will support or create, and even counterculture fashion is prepackaged and sold at hot topic. It's sad.

  • Maybe so, but it contains no Vulgar language or themes about the illicit drug trade, extreme promiscuity or violent pastimes. I just feel like when artists like Ke$ha or 50 cent write music, they influence their young fans in negative ways. But a line has to be drawn somewhere that says where the responsability of a parent lies with ensuring their children are not listening to "bad" music. My gripe comes from the fact that rap and R&B is so mainstream, and has been for over a decade now.

  • @supmywaxter I agree. I don't however believe that I can be the judge of "good" and "bad" music, but I can say that all music has a time and place and I agree that more often than not music that should not be meant for mass audiences is on tv/radio/etc. I also agree that performers like Kesha amongst others help warp the minds of young people. There is also lots of rap/r&b that is appropriate for general audiences, but it isn't offensive enough to sell haha

  • @supmywaxter hai bro im 15 and im listening to this stuff ^^ its wonderful and i hate that new shit that all tehse new artist are coming out with, its not even music =P It also kinda makes me pissed when one of these new artist remake an amzing song and just kills it, such as jay-z remaking Forever young

  • @XcwestonX Right on man, I know it is a sad thing. I don't understand how people argue that these new artists have amazing talent, when they copy/"mix" old classics.

  • @supmywaxter I was born in 1974 i heard them in early 90's like them verry much, but you know, not only we getting older:-)

  • @supmywaxter I'm with you bro :) im only 16, and can't beleive what these crazy kids are listening to XD

  • @supmywaxter define garbage music

  • @supmywaxter

hahaha...don`t forget the band named garbage (one of their songs was the beautiful song "milk") -so it`s seems not quite clear what you actually want to say (to me).

Maybe use the word rubbish /crap /sh*t music instead if you want to express your dislike of it..... ;)

P.S. does anyone remmber /is still listening to garbage (the band) these days....or am I the only one!???

  • @supmywaxter don't worry this music is back it never went away, it is now bigger than every, due to fact modern music lacks originality

  • @supmywaxter This brings up the best of my college memories. Alphaville was part of the soundtrack of my life. Love them !

  • @supmywaxter It's worth remembering that the "youth" of the 80's didn't really listen to Alphaville either when they were putting out these albums, unless they lived in Germany and some parts of Europe. Only a small handful of American knew who they were, and most of my contemporaries thought I was out of my mind for liking this stuff.

  • @ossarian: Well, in Italy, at least up to "Dance with me" they had a pretty huge success.

I used to like a lot the song, although I did not buy the album.

I consider "Prostitute" their most accomplished work. Afterwards, especially when Marian remained by himself, I find the lyrics disappointing.

  • @ossarian That's cos your contemporaries to put it kindly were a load of Madonna-loving non-taste jerkoffs. Much like anyone that buys music from today's 'acts'.

  • @supmywaxter im one of those teens dat doesnt :)

  • Is that a real Alphaville publicity photo?

  • Genial este tema de Alphaville.-

  • :D he looks like a little mass murderer actually^^ very cute

  • I love Alphaville. Marian's voice is so soothing in this song.

  • They just like A-HA.. great :)

  • I think they are awesome! I enjoy their music and many others do too! Thanks for posting!

  • i love alphaville but that picture kind of scares me... but other wise i think they all look fine :) i miss frank mertens :(

  • Im 44 and love this group. They are a real gem from the eighties and are an awesome band.Wish there were more bands like this out there./

  • these days if you are ugly, you won't make it :p

  • I agree .Its a pity people cant see beneath the surface of ones skin.

  • Well, he is (and was) far from "pretty", but he's got incredible charisma, with those eyes, and that voice, and that fantastic energy one just can't resist. So, to me he is a very favourite musician AND a very attractive man. :)

  • I dont think the guys ugly lol he seems very artistic and a little out there

  • He looks 'bout normal to me, but when he's a preformer, people compare him to other famous, beautiful, people. On this photo Marian Gold looks pretty... ugly ^^

  • YOu'd be surprised that here in Malaysia..we know who Alphaville is.They are incredibly creative..with their awesome melodies and unique music. Long like Alphaville!

  • It's a shame that so many people doesn't know about Alphaville, I think they are amazing.

  • Alphaville is an awsome group. it is sad they are underrated. This is, in my opinion, attibuted to the fact that their music and songs grew more and more abstract and highly philosophic. This also guarantees them an eternal place in music history. Finally, can anyone post their Nelson Highrise?

  • wow, it brings back memories!

one of the best songs ever!!!

  • the summer's they're singing about is still a berlin with a wall. don't forget that kids.

  • Yep. Was a very good song. Good vocalizations & the lyrics remind me what it was like being in Europe in the 80's.

  • it´s summer

    it´s hot

    living in berlin

    no wall

    wonderfull

  • haha :)

    great words!, schon!, mooi!

  • This is so calming. And sexy.

    'You touch a sweaty body'

Marian Gold has defenitely a very good voice and Alphaville was, and is, mine favorite.

    And he's handsome also.

  • I agree, brings emotions, take me back to teens, secret loves, it was the best time of my life.

  • I love it!!! It brings me so many emotions...

  • Oh yeah... It makes you start thinking stuff..

    5 STARS!

  • my god I love this tune.

  • great song~

  • If I'm not mistaken this record was not released as a single and as a result never received the popularity it deserved. A truly brilliant song.

  • Yep it wasn't.. Excellent song tho!

  • @cfar004 well I think it had been released as a single, but i'm not sure :)

  • ....in the middle of the Crossroad`s-in The Crosshood`s MS

  • brings me back to childhood

  • great song!!!

  • amazing!!
