I was wondering why he used a cam over lets say a pvr but after doing vid game uploads myself for a month i see why now. pvrs taking the raw footage i think you're more likely to run into copyright issues with the gay youtube filters.cams have no ties to songs or files, it just records whats there. there is also editing and with a cam you probably can just get it to make new files every 15 mins and even have it do color correct rather than edit stuff and render. it :)

I think with some tweaking the new camera would be better for the playthroughs too. You can use it to record in 720p too it doesn't have to do only 1080p.

The 60fps look slightly different to me, I think even when YouTube warps the raw video to 30fps, they don't literally delete half the frames on the source video, they try to bend them to fit into a 30fps video and it looks relatively smoother than on your 30fps footage

I'd look up tutorials on how to get best image quality from your camera/editing program. Since I was looking up some test videos of the NEX-5 and they look amazing in all qualities, where this video looks nice in 720p/1080p but for 360p it kinda has this pixelated/blurry type look to it that your old videos didn't have in 360p.

@and1ss if that's the case I just looked it up, and it does not do 60fps. it's 1080/60i. The "i" means interlaced. Which means its 540 lines for a 60th of a second and then the other 540 lines for a 60th of a second, equaling 1080 lines in one 30th of a second. So it's only 30fps. There are cameras out there that do 1080p/60fps, but they're rare. The more common setting is 720p/60fps, The Canon 60D and 7D are ones that do, and I've shot with them.

Have fun doing your playthroughs with a DSLR (even with a mirrorless DSLR like the Sony NEX-5). That might overheat and shut down in no time with the type of footage you are trying to capture. The body, battery, and even sensor heats up real quick. You may be better off doing a direct capture while using a USB mic (sadly that will result in a long upload too due to the conversion process to HTML5/flash on YouTube) or a regular digital camera for your playthroughs.

Phil has said all along that 1080 p sucks because of the long upload time/conversion/publishing times. Kind of like saying, "I know that sticking my hand in a fire is a bad idea but I wanted to test it for myself." I wasn't impressed by the 1080 p camera. The colors seemed washed out and there's a lot of interlacing/ghosting in action shots. It is only useful for reading text in the videos.

Phil your right about youtube and the 1080p 60fps. In fact when I put videos to 1080p they don't make any visual difference that I can tell yet it makes the video stutter and skip more. So, 720p seems to be sufficient for now. If people want to see a game run in 1080p 60fps then they need to buy a nice PC and play the game them-self.
