@bombkirby The uses of excessively cheesy animation and zoom affects. Everything's just moing all over the place, but sort of nauseatingly with multiple sprtes and rotation instead of actual hand-drawn animation. Plus the camera keeps zooming in and out and in and out whenenver anything happens. It's pretty cool, but not very impressive.
Hand drawing 650 plus sprites is a little crazy if not insane. Thats like 20 or so frames per Pokemon so thats 20 times 650. Games like BlazBlue and Guilty Gear don't even have that many sprites! The camera being static and not zooming looks very old fashion now that I watch some of the older games.
I think this is a pleasant surprise and not merely a "unimpressive" surprise.
@bombkirby I would say that's exactly what it is. It's a half-hearted attempt to make pokemon animated while keeping it 2D. They compensated their realistic inability to use fully hand-drawn with some cool, but certainly not impressive effects. I mean, this kind of use of multisprite animation has been around for more than fifteen years. It's cool, but it's certainly no artistic achievement compared to its peers.
This game reminds me of Cosmic Carnage for Sega 32x.

No wait I'm wrong....they had to do back and front sprites. So thats 1300ish sprites with 15-20 frames each.
